This silver cross necklace was imbued with sacred power.
There's no way an ordinary person could trigger a reaction from it.
The only explanation was that this figure wasn't human.
At this time, appearing in the villa could only mean one thing—it was an evil spirit.
Rod watched as the woman walked into the villa, and suddenly, he wasn't in a hurry to leave.
If this spirit dared to show up so boldly, he was curious to see what it was planning.
"Sorry, but the party's over."
Tasha, who was cleaning up, looked at the unfamiliar woman who had suddenly walked in, thinking she might be another neighbor.
With a polite smile, she apologized.
"I'm not here for the party. I'm looking for a job," the woman said slowly, with a reserved smile on her face.
"Looking for a job? Sorry, but we don't need any help right now," Tasha replied, apologetically turning down the offer.
Though her husband made a decent income, she could manage the villa on her own. There was no need to hire anyone, nor did they want to add unnecessary expenses.
"Ma'am, I have no home. I just need a place to stay. I don't even need to be paid," the woman said, her face showing a hint of sorrow as she played the sympathy card.
"Well..."
Tasha hesitated. Her rational side told her to send the woman away, but her emotional side made her feel sorry for the poor woman.
"Why not stay at my place instead?"
A voice chimed in.
Rod, who had been listening in for a while, stepped forward with a smile.
He looked the woman up and down—she appeared to be in her fifties or sixties, with slightly wrinkled skin, but she had an air of elegance about her.
She was wearing an old-fashioned maid's outfit, her gentle face marked by a somewhat insincere smile, giving off a strange, uneasy vibe.
"What's wrong? Is that not okay?"
Rod tilted his head, looking at the woman's slightly changed expression, a playful smile forming on his lips.
"That might be a bit much," Tasha said quietly, not wanting to burden her neighbor with any trouble.
"It's no trouble at all. In fact, I've been needing someone to help with cleaning and cooking at my place," Rod interrupted with a shrug.
"You know, young people like me don't have the patience for chores. It would be great to have some help. Plus, I've got a spare room for her to stay in."
"You're not worried I'll mistreat her, are you?" Rod asked with a grin.
Tasha shook her head, her heart skipping a beat as she looked at Rod's bright smile.
A sunny guy like him could never be the type to mistreat anyone, let alone an elderly woman.
"Ma'am, my house is just up ahead. Why don't you come with me?" Rod said, stepping forward and firmly escorting the woman out of the villa.
As they left the villa, the elderly woman fell silent, following Rod without a word.
Just as they were about to leave the villa grounds, the woman's expression began to twist and distort.
A massive black shadow stretched from behind Rod, growing larger and larger.
Zzzap!
The bright streetlights suddenly malfunctioned, flickering a few times before going out completely.
"In such a hurry already?" Rod sighed, his expression one of mild frustration.
He turned around slowly, facing the woman, whose appearance had drastically changed.
Her entire body was drenched in blood, her face a mangled mess, blood dripping from her flesh.
It looked as though she had been brutally beaten to death with a blunt object.
"Meddlesome fool!"
The evil spirit's face twisted with fury as she lunged at Rod at incredible speed.
Her sharp claws and grotesque expression would have terrified any normal person, sending them running.
But as the spirit rushed towards him, Rod merely looked up slowly.
There wasn't a hint of fear on his face. Instead, he smiled, a smile so chilling it would send shivers down anyone's spine.
In the spirit's terrified gaze, the cross necklace, glowing with a sacred light, struck her square in the face.
Bam!
The evil spirit was slammed to the ground, unable to resist.
Under the corrosive power of the sacred energy, her entire body began to fade, black smoke rising as though she were being consumed by fire.
Watching the spirit writhe in agony, Rod calmly extended his hand, pressing it against her bloodied face.
"There are no cameras here, the streetlights are out, and no one will know even if something happens. It's a perfect spot."
"But the reason I lured you here was to deal with you when no one was around."
"What are you waiting for? Waiting to die?"
"Don't worry. I'll make it quick. You won't feel a thing."
Rod looked down at the pleading face of the evil spirit, his sunny smile as bright as an angel descending from the heavens.
But to the spirit, his smile was more terrifying than that of a demon.
"No..."
"May your Lord bless you."
Sacrifice!
A flash of deep light, and the spirit instantly vanished into nothingness.
Rod dusted off his hands and stood up.
He wasn't the type to kill indiscriminately, nor did every spirit deserve to be destroyed.
But this particular spirit was one of the more malicious kinds.
Fueled by hatred and unresolved grievances, it lingered in the mortal world, driven by its anger to harm anyone nearby.
Leaving it be would only cause more trouble.
If living had been such a burden, it was better for him to offer a bit of peace, to help it move on.
After all, in doing so, he was spreading a bit of justice in the world.
Such a virtuous deed.
"I really am a good person!" Rod said to himself with a grin.
