A shadow sect? For sure, that other person was a cultivator just like Alex. As for being able to grant power to whoever submitted to them, it should be the function of being a master.
As for the reason that person was making people disappear or submit to them, it must be related to the type of system they had. If not, why would they insist on staying in the shadow to control the light instead of dominating both since they were clearly going for world domination?
