Chapter 5 - Expelled (I)
"Halgressia, I am worried. Very worried. I don't want you to get expelled." Zena said while Theraessa produced a calm, comforting smile on her face and said, "Don't worry much about it. I will be fine."
The moment she finished speaking, the girl that went to report to Instructor Shwyvellyn who immediately set up a Council of Disciplinarians for her, returned with a mocking and deeply ridiculing look on her face as she gazed at Theraessa.
"Halgressia, you are summoned. The council of expellers and dismissers are waiting for you to have you ingloriously discharged for your haughtiness towards us. Haha."
"But we finally won. I just can't believe it. Good riddance to you, you immensely overrated, useless, and fame-obstructing ugly thing. In your face, hideous slender pig. Really can't wait to have you pushed out of the system into the street where you belong." The girl called Lyanarri, said and cackled in a manner that showed she was tremendously gloating over Theraessa's unexpected misfortune.
Theraessa looked at her and shook her head. She wasn't going to say anything. After assuring a worried Zena once more, she asked her to lead her to the place where the Council of Disciplinarians usually met—called Punishment Hall to mete our varying degrees of punishment that was in total correspondence to the degree or severity of a crime committed.
...
After arriving at the hall, where more than ten instructors were gathered, one of them—the one who was reported to and was called Shwyvellyn, asked with a really stern look on her face, even before Theraessa could greet their gathering properly.
"Halgressia, explain why you used your power in the hall to frighten a group of girls who came to beg to you to teach them how to be better with their fire summoning abilities?" Instructor Shwyvellyn asked with a serious look on her face.
Instructor Shwyvellyn had never really liked Halgressia, as she always dominated the girls in the institution. And one of the girls who could feel this intense suppression and dominion which she painfully and bitterly complained about all the time, was the last born of their family, Shaviah.
Shaviah was her fourth and last sister, while she was the first, making her the eldest. Though Shaviah too was talented, like very talented, but she just couldn't match up to Halgressia who people tried to absolutely understand the reason why she had so many seemingly otherworldly, potent summoning abilities.
So, whenever her sister, Shaviah, broke down because of being less popular and all, she would be the one to comfort her, assuring her that one day, things were going to turn around. And now that the patiently awaited day had come, she wasn't ready to let it slip off her hands.
She would make sure she was highly condescending and overbearing, and in the end, successfully expel Halgressia in the most shameful and embarrassing manner possible from the institution so that her outshined, young talented sister would now have a voided spot to dazzle gloriously and become awed, adored, and cherished by the whole institution.
Theraessa was about to explain when Instructor Shwyvellyn said, "Trying to come up with rotten, deceptive lies that you will tell us, right? Say anything you want, I am not going to believe you. All I know is you broke the law, so you should be severely punished for it. Or what do you have to say?"
"Those fame, shine, glory, and everything have gotten deep into your head that you think you can do as you please or like within the institution? Well, not on my watch. You are definitely leaving the institution today. Perhaps that will humble you and make you understand that not everything will go your way all the time."
Theraessa, who felt heavily suppressed by Instructor Shwyvellyn, and would really get expelled if this continued, immediately said, "Instructors, first of all, I apologize for using my powers, but it wasn't intentional. See, I..."
She couldn't finish half of what she wanted to say when she was immediately cut off by Instructor Shwyvellyn who said, "Like I previously asked, what do you really have to say? You just want to create lies and feed us with it. Do you think we are unintelligent morons who will just accept anything you utter? Whatever you say, Theraessa, won't save you from being dishonorably expelled from the institution at this hour. You are going to leave with shame, dishonor, and melancholy following directly behind you."
"My fellow instructors, let me be the one to mete out serious, deterrent punishment to this proud and law-breaking, vicious student for breaking the institution's ancient, long standing rule." She said further, trying to speedily draw the event to a conclusion.
However, before she could go on, an instructor called Caryanne, who was heavily disappointed with Halgressia for what she did, said with a bright, thoughtful look on her face, "Let us all be calm about this, okay? Now, there will always be two sides to a story. It's true that Hally broke the rule of the institute by using her fire summoning power in the Hall of Learning. But we have only heard what Shaviah told us. We haven't heard from Hally yet."
"Shwyvellyn, you have been saying since that you want Hally dismissed, but we have only heard from the accuser, we haven't heard from the accused. At least, give the accused the chance to defend herself. Let's hear what she has to say."
"Besides, we have the enchanted, Truth Glow Orb that would let us know if Hally is lying. Don't let us be in a rush to dismiss her. Furthermore, she is really no ordinary student."
"Because of her, we have won more than sixty different competitions in our city, and even the grandest one organized by the Region Lord, His Great and Benevolent Majesty, Ruler Azakyrimm, who placed us on top recommendation as the institute to go to for studies in the mystical art of witchery, summoning, and magic, as well as reduced our individual taxes and gave each of us many more benefits that are truly massive in value. This has never happened to the institution until the arrival of Halgressia for student enrollment into our system."
"If we kick her out, she will immediately be offered instant admissions into more than a hundred institution in our city and from numerous neighboring cities who are seriously eyeing her, hoping that something unfortunate happens to her so they can shine, or that she leaves the institution due to one thing or the other. And that, my colleagues, will be an immensely great loss to us. You won't know what you have until you lose it."
"In fact, if Ruler Azakyrimm hears of it, that our best student had left our institute, he will immediately order his men to bring her to his palatial mansion where he will absolutely give her an enviable government post that will come with numerous great benefits. So, let's be careful with entirely dismissing what the accused has to say in her defense and quickly judging, just because she broke the law."
"Instructor Caryanne, what are you saying? If we give her less punishment, she will surely break more of our other laws in the soonest future. This girl is too proud, spiteful, disrespectful, and totally inconsiderate. Really, she has to go. We don't want such student with a terrible character in this place, or she will heavily corrupt the other students with her contemptible ways. She has to go. She simply has to leave. I won't sit by with arms folded, watch her get a minor or really less punishment and continue to run amok like the student tyrant she is within the institution!" Instructor Shwyvellyn said with a really mean and determined look on her face.
