Chapter 86

The timer on the sky is now at 60 hours, twelve hours have passed since the Selection started. As time is slowly progressing, the Sun of this world starts setting down, casting a dark and ominous shadow all over the earth. The horrific scenery which had been filled with death and destruction is now even worse than before. Normally, this world, or this city, to be more specific, would be blessed with electrical lights and billboards that are even brighter than the sun. People would walk on these streets even when the sun has gone down from above. Bars would be opened until very late in the evening, and 'special' places for sex would be opened until the very next morning.

However, it is not like that anymore.

There are no longer enough people to run this city. What is left after the infection of the mysterious disease is simply blood, gore, bodily fluids, and corpses, or even worse.

On the ground, zombies are still running amok. People are either dead or have found a way to hide themselves from the undead. Barricades and make-shift forts have been created to fight back the zombie hordes. But on the outside of their shelters, as long as there is a loud sound, the zombie infestation will immediately charge at that location, now with the help of commanders.

Having fed on multiple women, they are much more than the beginning of the Selectin. Even though not that common, but also not that rare, either. At least, if one were to run without being harmed, they would see one commander-grade zombie every 10 blocks. With just only a punch from their abnormally large arms, they will demolish any doors, rooms, or even buildings.

Nothing can escape. This is why the number of participants in the Selection has been reduced to less than half of the beginning. It would seem that the magic users have learned the lesson that these zombies are not what they can handle themselves so they choose to escape, or they have been killed off.

Still attacking any living being they can find, the zombies are insatiable.

There is no difference between their state currently and their state before. After half a day, they are still very aggressive and ready to go for the kill at any given second.

Yui and Yuno have been separated from each other by the Selection ever since it started. For the pair of twins who have been together all the time, they each feel very uncomfortable not having the other one by their side.

Luckily, they have the special Blood Bond between twins, so they can vaguely sense the direction of the other person. Combined with the seed of Void Magic Nycta left inside their bodies, they quickly found the direction to head towards. Currently, Yui is running towards her older sister, Yuno. As for Yuno, she is not her nonchalant self at all. On her cute little face is a serious expression. Unlike at home, where she can be free to herself, here, Yuno is a completely different person.

"Hurry up, Yui!" Yuno talks to herself. "We need to group up with Sam as soon as possible."

She can sense Yui getting closer, which is why she is waiting for her.

Her different colored eyes peek through the small crack of the building she is in. Down there, on the ground, the zombies are in a dormant state as if they are done with everything. But she knows it is just a facade. The girl sits quietly in a building. The only thing that keeps her from being totally consumed by darkness is the small light orb that floats in front of her chest. It illuminates her surrounding but by a very small standard. Yuno keeps the light as low as possible since she is worried that someone might see it and determine her location.

On the outside, occasionally, Yuno can hear someone shouting help or screams in terror. Right after that, the zombies would wake up from the motionless stand and swarm the place like ants. Then, once the flesh of the humans has been consumed, the silence would once more cover the whole area. She found out that they were attracted to the sound more than visual stimuli.

Fortunately, both Yui and Yuno are excellent at Wind Magic. Their specialty is Sound Magic, a different kind of utilizing Wind, and it works perfectly in this case.

Around Yuno since the beginning has been a small layer of Sound Canceling Magic. It is impossible to maintain all the time so she only uses the spell whenever there is a need for it.

For example, Yuno needs to eat right now. And thus the circle of noise-canceling magic circles around her. The food in her backpack is all wrapped in plastic bags, after all. Opening them up will make a sound and that will attract the zombies towards her. Especially in the dark like this, the sound will be amplified even more.

*Rustle*

Yuno takes out an energy bar and bites on it.

*Nom nom*

"Ugh! Yuno wants an actual dinner, not this! Damn Lily! 'You should bring small food with high calories' She said. 'Sushi is not high in calories' She said. You are not my mother! If you were, I still would not give a damn. If it was not for Sam, I would not have listened to you."

The girl remembers something from before venturing in the Selection and mumbles annoyingly while chewing on the energy bar. "At least this is sweet. Haaaaaaaaaah! I miss Sam. Yui, where are you? Yuno is bored to death here."

*Boom*

In the distance, Yuno suddenly hears a small explosion.

"Huh?! Who would be this stupid?" Knowing that the zombie will start pouring at the location of that sound, Yuno stays still. She makes her way to a better spot for visual and peaks outside the building.

Further away, Yuno sees lights and fire. On the ground, it is exactly what she expected. While growling, the zombies start moving and dragging their bodies in the direction of the boom. Thinking that there is nothing that she needs to focus on, the little girl sits back down and continues her small meal for the night.

But then, she feels her smaller sister's movements.

"Wait! That is the direction of Yui!"

Immediately, she stands up and runs to the top of the building. A better view can be achieved by better heights if she goes to the highest floor.

*Boom*

While running, Yuno once more hears another explosion, this time, it is much closer than before.

"What the heck? What kind of retard would be doing something like this?"

Very quickly, Yuno reaches the top floor. But it is blocked by a metal door.

*Chak*

"Tch. Of course, it's locked!"

Clicking her tongue, Yuno extends the reach of her Soundproof spell and raises her hand up.

An X forms on the door, effectively breaking it open. Yet there is no sound coming out from the attacks.

Yuno kicks the door down and runs outside. To her surprise, there is actually one person up here. He looks to be in a uniform, probably some sort of security guard. Not that she cares, though.

"Who...who are you!?" The old guy looks at her. His body trembles in fear. In his hands is a knife that he uses for protection. However, the knife is shiny and has no bloodstain on it, showing that he has not killed anyone.

Yuno does not want to waste her time talking to him. She is not here to do any chatting.

Wind Magic: Wind Blade.

From the wave of her arm, an invisible blade moves forward, cutting down the head of the person in front of her.

Yuno feels no remorse. She does not have the time to hesitate, especially when she is in a hurry with anxiety growing in her chest. He did point the knife at her face first, after all.

To make her location unknown, she dispels the small light orb that has been in front of her chest. Standing on the top of the building, Yuno looks afar.

"Are you serious?!"

In her eyes is an incredible scene. One that would baffle anyone. In the distance, it is now not exactly dark, because the fire that was created by a certain someone has lit up the place.

Every now and then, fireballs and meteors would appear around that person. After a small period of seemingly finding a target, the magic would slam down, bringing intense destruction to the target.

The dark figure stands in the air, not touching anything as if they are on an invisible platform. It is too far to make out who it is, but the figure is certainly massively powerful. The normal zombies have no chance of facing such a ridiculous enemy.

Very strangely, behind that person is a huge crowd. They do not look like zombies, but they look like people.

"What the fuck is going on?!" Yuno is appalled by the appearance of the strange person. "Wait! I can feel Yui! She is somewhere in that direction, too!!"

"GUOOOOOOOOO!!!" And then she hears the thunderous roar of one zombie commander.

*Bam*

From the ground, an abnormal figure of irregular muscle proportion jumps into the air, aiming at the figure.

*Fuwhum*

Instantly, on top of the figure, a white gigantic fireball the size of a car manifests and moves forward.

*BAM!*

An immense shock wave is created after the impact between the monster and the spell, shattering all the glass windows that still remain in the area.

The light from the blast reveals the face of Hero. He is all prepared with armor and a metal staff on his right arm.
