The commander's study was as far into the upper areas of the fortress as Henry had ever been to.
When Commander Lothian asked him to follow him further down the hallway, Henry's heart beat erratically in excitement.
He had a strange desire to see more of the commander's life. Never would he admit such a thing to anyone else but he wanted to be as successful as the commander. He had security in his life and seemingly no worries unless there were monsters in his face.
Henry didn't realize beyond the cold and indifferent facade was a lonely man who desired a family. He found success as he sought ways to fill up the emptiness that consumed him.
Many nights were spent combing through the forests for monsters simply so he didn't have to think about the lack of other people in his personal life.
Just as usual, there was silence between the two of them. One might think the commander was irritated with Henry but Henry was used to it.
