They Really Are Too Heavy! {8}

Morning came and so Len woke up quickly annoying Damian into waking as well, he felt bright and happy as he jumped around helping Damian pack "Len, we'll briefly head off the main path today on a shortcut so we can get there a few days faster" Damian says as he packs the tent into his huge backpack. Len nodded thinking this was a good idea as he untied coconut from a tree.

Only about an hour later they walked down a dirt path with Len riding on Coconut again, his legs were too short to keep up with the much larger man consistently so he had to ride the horse. Damian was starting to get used to the heavy baggage and was walking at a normal pace now. However it wasn't fast enough, for when bandits hopped out of the bushes the unarmoured pair could not both run away fast enough, and as Damian slapped Coconuts hind leg she ran off carrying Len to safety while Damian pulled out a dagger to fight the men off.

Coconut understood the situation and ran as far and fast as she could, however it was all for naught as Len made her turn around and head back immediately. He had no idea what was in Coconuts mind, they couldn't just leave Damian Stranded all by himself! They walked back taking around three hours this time since coconut was exaughsted after her long run, she seemed very hesitant to bring Len back but there wasn't much to horse could do. Len seemed unconcerned as he knew Damian was a really strong man who could probably fight those men easily.

Eventually Damian came into sight, he was sitting on a log seemingly recovering from the battle as he held his wounds. Len happily hopped off coconut, he knew Damian would win! He approached starting to noticed something was off, his friends breathing was labored and short. Coming closer he saw it, Damian held onto a sword that was pierced through a gap in his ribs. He struggled to breathe as each gasp he took caused the sword to cut at his flesh opening the would a little further, Damian lifted his head and spit blood in surprise as he saw Len "what are you doing back here you stupid boy?" he yelled, although it obviously pained him to do so. "I came back for you cause coconut ran off.. and we. . I had to come get you.. because you're my friend.. and we had to carry you back.. how do I help?" He cries as he looks at the horrible injury.

Damian looks into his eyes his handsome face grim as he sees the innocent boy "pull the sword out." he commands and Len does so screaming in fright as the wound becomes unplugged and starts to let blood flow. The large man sighs in relief as he closes his eyes "I have failed at alot in my life, and I will never be able to fix some of it.. my wife and my children.. I am a deadbeat to them.. my youngest daughter will never know my face. but if I can ask you one last favor please find them and tell them that I did love them." he exhaled deeply before giving a short and sharp inhale, "everything that was mine is yours now, I have no use for it anymore" he sighs as Len watches waiting for an inhale that never comes. He waits patiently, realising that Damien was 'sleeping' and that the wound was still bleeding he decided to patch it up with some old clothes before laying him down, night time would be soon and Damien was getting weirdly cold so he built a campfire. Hours passed.. and he never made a noise. and so Len finally came over and layed his head on the others man's chest.. dead quiet.

Deep into the night Len clawed away at the dirt as the ring around his finger rumbled and shook occasionally. After around nine hours Len had created a shallow grave about two feet deep that he dragged Damian into laying him to rest eternally. he cupped dirt in his hands pouring it over the other man's body until no more part of his tan skin was visible.

Len grabbed Damians bag and layed it over Coconuts back hips thinking he should've done this in the first place, they really are too heavy to be carried by a person for such a long distance. he hopped on Coconuts back and decided to continue on the path that Damian had been taking for now, he cried his eyes out as the beautiful mare slowly carried him off further onto the wooded path.

Slowly emerging from the woods with what was probably a very handsome face before his wicked expression twisted it was a large man with bushy eyebrows and tan skin, he had a hefty build that was a mix of fat and muscle. Although currently he felt sick with fear as he wondered how that boy had obtained such a ring.. surely he had escaped death by avoiding the boy and only killing the man, he fingered his fake version of the ring which he wore like a bull would. His own had fooled enough people that it had saved him many times.. but that boy had the real one.
