City of Warriors

Having nothing much to do Andrey just observed out of the window as plenty of cars were moving towards them or along with them on the road. He had always taken a special interest in cars and as a result, the rest of his time was spent admiring all the other cars that they passed by.

"We've arrived," Zack said as he stopped the car in front of a three-floored building. In this city full of skyscrapers this building stood out like a sore thumb.

"No way in hell the Warrior Academy is this building, is it?" Andrey said in bewilderment.

"It's not, just wait and watch," Instructor Zack gave Andrey the same grin as earlier and pressed the horn twice.

A closed shutter to the right of the building's main entrance slowly opened up. Zack drove the car in and when the car entered the opening the shutter slowly started closing down. Andrey couldn't help but look back through the rear window as the shutter fully closed and their surroundings became illuminated by yellow neon lights which bordered the path they were supposed to take.

'Just how long is this building?' Andrey thought to himself as Zack kept on driving the car in the marked path.

Before long they saw a solid steel door right in front of them and beside it was a small boot which looked like the place from where the gate was controlled.

Instructor Zack stopped beside the boot and opened his window.

A round fist-sized steel robot slowly hovered out of the boot and moved around the car. Andrey could see a green ray coming out of it. 'So, it's a scanner?' Andrey thought to himself as he continued to observe its actions.

"Vehicle Registration Verified, Driver's Biometrics Verification Initiating," The robot said as it soon came towards Instructor Zack's windows. The green light this time scanned Instructor Zack's face from top to down.

"Verification complete, clear to proceed," The robot said as it flew back towards the boot and a few seconds later the giant steel door started opening.

"That's a 'Globo'. An advanced security robot. The whole Academy is mainly monitored by them so you'll be seeing these a lot from now on." Instructor Zack explained while the door was opening.

The car soon made its way in. Unlike earlier, the path inside was brightly lit with white lights. They followed the small path for a while and the right boundary next to them soon disappeared as a larger pathway was soon revealed.

There were also several other vehicles on this pathway. Some were moving towards them while others were moving along with them in the same direction. Now that the lights were bright and the path wide Andrey could clearly see that the path which they were following was in the shape of a spiral which was moving downwards.

"How long more?" Andrey asked. His initial excitement soon dissipated as they were still on that downward spiral for the last ten minutes. There was no change in the scenery at all and everything looked white! Andrey who's used to using dark mode on his devices felt that he would go blind if he remained here any longer.

"Five more minutes, we are almost there," Zack said as he adjusted his black glasses. Andrey could only click his tongue in annoyance when he saw this. He had earlier asked Zack for a pair of glasses as well but unfortunately, he didn't have one.

"Why is it so bright in here anyway?" Andrey asked.

"To allow the people going back up enough time to adjust their eyes to the sunlight," Zack explained.

"Adjust? Why?" Andrey asked in a confused manner.

"You'll soon understand why so stop with the questions and let me drive in peace," Zack rebuked.

"Alright…" Andrey could only give up and listen to him.

A few minutes later Andrey saw the lights dimming down in a step-by-step manner. After every 100-200 meters the intensity of the white light was decreasing and it was slowly being replaced by yellow light.

"Is that the exit?!" Andrey asked in excitement as he saw an opening not too far ahead.

Zack kept his mouth shut and just drove through the opening as a whole new world entered Andrey's eyes making his mouth agape.

Zack allowed Andrey a few seconds to slowly take all of his surroundings in before saying, "Welcome to the city under the city, Evernight, also known as the City of Warriors and also the place where the Warrior Academy is situated,"

"Evernight…so this is it," Andrey said to himself as his eyes looked outside the window.

Since the city was underground, it was natural that there was no sky, as a result only the depths of the darkness could be seen when one looked up from here. The whole city was illuminated by dim yellow street lights which you could find almost everywhere around here.

"Won't staying underground for so long adversely affect our health?" Andrey asked a doubt which popped up in his mind.

"Nope, those yellow lights are not your normal lights but enhanced light which has almost similar properties to that of sunlight but are a lot less dim and energy conserving, so our health isn't affected," Instructor Zack explained.

"I see," Andrey made a mental note as he focused on the outside for the rest of the journey. After facing that white scenery for almost fifteen minutes straight Andrey couldn't help but be attracted to the ever-changing scenery of the outside world.

Thanks to this Instructor Zack was not troubled with questions from Andrey and was able to drive calmly to his villa.

"It looks so sick," Andrey commented as he entered the villa and his eyes went all around the place. The furnishing, the flooring, and the backyard view from the drawing room. Everything about that house was perfect in Andrey's eyes.

"Thank you, you'll be staying here for today," Zack said as he followed Andrey in.

"Only for today?" Andrey inquired.

"Indeed, starting tomorrow you'll be living in your dormitory situated in the Academy Campus," Zack said and continued, "I would have directly sent you there but the higher-ups told me that your admission procedures would take another day to complete so here we are, that room on the left is the one where you'll be staying. Freshen up and rest for a while,"

"Alright," Andrey said as he dragged his trolley bags into his room.
