Brother-In-Law Returns

"Well then, I'll see you again, Doctor Lin." Ruan Yifei stood up and made her way towards the door without waiting for Doctor Lin to respond to her.

Although the most befitting reaction she should have had after catching her husband cheating on her was to scratch his mistress' face, Ruan Yifei didn't want to deal with them for now.

Moreover, what was the point of doing that now that her husband had already crossed the line?

There was no need to struggle and cling to him when he chose to let another woman carry his child.

Ruan Yifei left the hospital in a hurry and returned to the Chun family's mansion. It was a huge and luxurious mansion located in Obsidian Hills, an extremely expensive residential area in the country; only the wealthiest people could afford to live there.

Even the Chun family, who are now the fifth wealthiest in the country, just recently bought this mansion at the cost of nearly half a hundred million.

When she first moved there, Ruan Yifei thought that she was truly fortunate to marry William. She wasn't a gold digger by any means. She has her own money, but it wasn't enough for her to buy even a plot of land there.

"Good afternoon, Miss."

An elderly woman in a maid's uniform bumped into her when she entered the mansion. It was the head maid, Miss Helena.

Ruan Yifei looked down at the head maid's hands, which were holding a tray of desserts. She couldn't stop getting curious and asked, "Is there a guest?"

Helena nodded and replied, "Madam brought two of her friends. Miss, are you just getting back now?"

Ruan Yifei replied, "Yes. I went to meet my friends, but I left early because I felt unwell."

She had already informed everyone of her plans to meet her friends today. Ruan Yifei intended to play with her friends around the city and return late. But after her pregnancy result failed once again, she didn't have the mood to play in the city.

And with her newest discovery, Ruan Yifei didn't want to raise any suspicions about her that would make William think she had found out the truth.

After dealing with the head maid, Ruan Yifei used the kitchen to go around the house and avoid meeting her mother-in-law and her guests. When she entered the kitchen area, which was closer to the living room, her mother-in-law's voice sounded clearly.

"I heard your daughter is getting married soon. Her fiancé is the senator's son, right? Where will the wedding be held?" Her mother-in-law, Madam Chun, asked her friend.

"Stella is still deciding where it'll be held, but I prefer it to be the same temple where she was born."

"There's no need to hurry. The wedding will happen six months later. There'll be plenty of places to pick," added the second guest.

Ruan Yifei didn't have any interest in other people's weddings and proceeded to go to her room when suddenly, her mother-in-law started to speak, halting her from moving.

"It's such a shame. Stella was such a sweet child. I used to think she and William would end up together," Madam Chun remarked dejectedly. "If only my son had pursued her more diligently, we would have been family."

The other lady laughed and said, "That's right. I remember them playing around as a kid. But don't you have a beautiful daughter-in-law?"

"Tsk, what's the use of a beautiful face if she can't give birth to a child!" Madam Chun placed her teacup on the coffee table. Her expression darkened just at the thought of that useless daughter-in-law of hers.

The two ladies exchanged glances, and one of them comforted Madam Chun. "Your son and his wife are still young."

"Young? It's been four years!" Madam Chun irritably fumed. "If I had known this would happen, I would've stopped my son from marrying that unfertile woman. Our family already wasted food and money on her, yet she still can't give us what we want."

Behind the wall, Ruan Yifei clenched her fists as she held back her tears. She didn't want to hear what they were saying anymore. It was true that she had lived in that mansion for four years and ate the same food they ate, but it was not as if she could do anything about it.

She just didn't think that her mother-in-law would hold some grudges just because she ate their food and used the money her husband gave her.

Ruan Yifei peeled her back off the wall and started to march towards the stairs.

Her eyes blurred with unshed tears as she wished she could reach her room quickly so that nobody would find out how hurt she was today.

Her heart bled as the complicated emotions that were brewing within her were about to burst.

In the rapid passing of emotions, she suddenly noticed a tall man walking across from her with his hands on his pockets.

But by the time she reacted, it was already too late.

Their distance was so close that the moment she realized it, their bodies had already collided.

Fearing she'd fall, Ruan Yifei closed her eyes, but a hand swiftly grabbed her waist, bringing her into a warm and hard embrace.

For a brief moment, Ruan Yifei was out of breath. The quickness of the man shocked her, but it was not the time to admire his reflex.

Because the man suddenly brought his other hand up and touched her left cheek.

"Why are you crying?"

Ruan Yifei raised her head and was surprised to see the face of the man. Strong, angular jawlines framed lips that held a hint of a knowing smile, giving an air of unique charisma to his appearance. His eyes were deep pools of blue that sparkled like the ocean on a sunny day. Above them, dark brows arched in perfect symmetry. Each line and contour of his face seemed to have been crafted by the hands of a master artist.

His tousled locks of dark hair completed the portrait of a man who was not just handsome but truly captivating in every sense of the word.

At first glance, Ruan Yifei didn't recognize him. But the sense of familiarity quickly told her who he was.

Mikhail Qin.

He was her husband's older brother.
