To Become a Revenant or Not

"Then how could the Ancient Evil World possibly lose if that was the case?" Zen couldn't help but ask. After all, an energy that was on par with Divine Energy that could be used by all living beings would mean that anyone could rival the Gods as long as they have it.

Arthur noticed Zen's confusion and said, "Of course there's a catch which is the fact that the living being who uses Evil Energy will lose their minds and crave for unceasing slaughter."

Zen felt that it made sense.

Arthur continued explaining, "This was what the Gods wanted to strengthen their forces and gain more authority. This was also the reason why the Revenants haven't been annihilated which caused some to escape. It was all because of the greed of the Gods. They stubbornly chose to capture the Revenants even while fully knowing the danger it carried."

Zen could feel the hatred in Arthur's voice.

After a while of walking, Arthur stopped in front of a door.

Zen looked around and saw that it was very dark. It was as if they were in a basement.

Arthur opened the door and strode to the room with Zen following behind.

As soon as Zen entered the room, he was astounded by what he saw.

There were glowing items everywhere!

'Damn, is this what heaven looks like!?' Zen looked around with stars in his eyes.

They kept walking until they reached a door that seemed to be sealed by countless incomprehensible runes made with bright orange divine power which looked as if it would burst into flames at any given moment.

Zen observed the runes and felt a severe headache.

"Don't look at it. Mortals are nothing in front of God's power." Arthur reminded accordingly.

Then, he turned around and looked at Zen before speaking, "Behind this door is the way for you to break the limit of humans and resolve your problem of being unable to use mana."

Just as the excited Zen was about to say anything, Arthur looked at his eyes and continued, "However, there are consequences that you must know about."

This made Zen calm down and listened carefully to what Arthur was about to say.

Seeing that Zen had calmed down, Arthur continued, "Frankly, what I had planned for your path of growth was kind of extreme. The reason why I explained Evil Energy to you earlier was because it involves the path I prepared."

Zen felt nervous as Arthure continued talking.

"The reason why I don't want you to level up yet is because I don't want you to level up as a human. Humans only gain 2 Free Stat points without any bonuses to any of their Stats. Originally, I wanted to give you a Dragon Blood potion to give you the bloodline of a dragon. However, it wouldn't be as flawless and perfect as a dragonification ritual that is held by a true dragon. You would only be a draconic creature like the wyverns with impure dragon blood, not even a half-dragon."

Zen nodded in understanding. He also thought that it was a pity to only just receive 2 Free Stat points when levelling up. The Dragon Blood Potion was fine, but it had a lower potential ceiling.

"Then, I thought about the most precious treasure that the God of Fire brought from the Ancient Evil World; the Lord of Evil's Heart. And before you say anything, the Lord of Evil's heart couldn't be destroyed. So the God of Fire had no choice but to seal it instead." Arthur added quickly, afraid that Zen would view him as a hypocrite.

"My plan is for you to become a Revenant."

Zen's eyes widened in shock as soon as he heard Arthur's words. However, he suppressed his emotions. Instead, he thought for a while and said, "I would like to hear about your plan first before commenting."

Arthur was pleasantly surprised by Zen's calm demeanor. He nodded and said, "Of course, I wouldn't let you become a mindless monster. The thing that the God of Fire used to seal the Lord of Evil's Heart was a piece of his divinity."

"Through this divinity, we'll be able to rid the Evil Energy of its negative effects, making it more tame and easily controllable. This tamed Evil Energy would be perfectly controlled by you. Although most of its powers would be lost to being just slightly better than Mana, it is still better than a powerful but uncontrollable source of energy. However, even though the tamed Evil Energy would only be slightly better than Mana."

"After that, we'll transfer the tamed Evil Energy to your heart and it will be able to produce the tamed Evil Energy on its own! However, the consequences of this kind of energy transplantation was the fact that you can only rely on yourself to regenerate energy. You cannot absorb Mana and other kinds of energy. You also couldn't absorb other Evil Energy since they would awaken the infectious evil of your tamed Evil Energy. So, you would need to use your energy sparingly and only rely on the tamed energy generated by your heart. Moreover, you also wouldn't be able to make use of the Lord of Evil's Heart since we won't transplant it directly in your body, only the energy within it."

"That is all for my plan, what do you think? Of course, all this will rely on the fact that you have a powerful regeneration talent which would make the operation possible to survive in. In fact, I only proposed this because I knew that you have an abnormally powerful regeneration talent. However, beware that this procedure will be very, very painful."

Arthur paused for a moment before presenting another choice to Zen, "If you don't like my plan, we could also prepare a Dragon Blood Potion for you. This way, you would be able to obtain points that a draconic creature would receive after each level up." Arthur just looked at Zen silently after he finished speaking.

"Can I have some time to think?" Zen asked.

"Of course." Arthur nodded and got two chairs for them.

They sat in front of the door with glowing runes in silence.

Zen began to think deeply, weighing the pros and cons of each choice.

'Hmm… what do I do… to become a Revenant or not?'

'Dragons are cool but I would only be able to become a draconic creature after drinking the potion. Besides, I think that becoming a one of a kind Revenant with tamed Evil Energy is cooler than something that already exists…'

Zen used his brain to its limit as he thought of countless scenarios and the benefits each choice would give him.

'Frankly, I don't really have any prejudice against Revenants. After all, I'm not from this world. However, would others think the same? This may even be used against me in the future.'

Thinking of this, Zen asked Arthur, "Would anyone be able to tell that I am a Revenant if ever I decided to go with your plan?"

Arthur chuckled and said, "Oh, I forgot to mention earlier, but one of the terrifying characteristics of Evil Energy was its ability to disguise itself and be just like Mana. Even Gods wouldn't be able to tell unless they inserted your body with their Divine Energy. Fortunately for us, the Revenants were mindless and didn't know infiltration tactics because if they could, then we would have lost to them a hundred percent."

Hearing this, Zen became reassured.

He thought for a long while before opening his mouth.

"Teacher, I think I have decided."
