Chapter 52

The soccer team had practice today. I had a quick lunch with Gwen and MJ, so I hurried to the practice, as long as she didn't bring up any unnecessary topics.

The practice went pretty well, as I had already made friends with all the members of the team. To which the coach was of course incredibly pleased. Of course with my current financial situation there was no need to be a member of the soccer team anymore, but if I refused this role, it would be very ugly from my side, because they had done so much for me.

After practice, since it was still early, I decided to visit Liz. My presence at OzCorp wasn't needed at the moment anyway. After all, Mr. Wilson still hadn't finished all the paperwork. And according to him, it should take at least a week.

Five minutes into the flight, I wasn't far from the right place. So after landing on the ground, I put my suit away and walked the rest of the way.

Soon I had a view of a huge area enclosed by a fence, and in front of it hung a sign that read "Xavier's School for Gifted Children"

I didn't want to just break in without warning. So I went to the gate and pressed the buzzer.

- What do you want? - A few seconds later, I heard a nasty voice that I recognized immediately. It was James Howlett's.

- I'm here to see my friend. - I answered simply and to the point.

- We're not accepting anyone today. Come back another day. - His voice came again, and then the call was cut off.

- Ha, that's the nerve. - I grinned, and then pressed the call again.

- Are you stupid or what? We said we're not accepting today! - James's irritated voice came again.

- Listen to me, you pompous turkey. Either you open the gate or I'm going in anyway. But then you're gonna get in trouble. - I threatened him. Because he had a real nasty temper.

- Try it. - He answered briefly, and then dropped the call again.

- Well, the heavens are my witnesses that it's not my fault. - I shrugged, and then took one leap over the fence.

As soon as I landed, alarms went off all over the area, and two machine-gun turrets rose from the ground and took aim at me.

- You are trespassing on private property. Please leave or the security protocol will be activated! - came an automated voice from the speaker.

- Hmm, interesting. - I grinned, plugging the muzzles of my machine guns with spider webs, which rendered them useless, and then walked towards the huge building that could be seen from my location.

At that moment I noticed a bunch of people running towards me, apparently they were teachers of the school.

- Who are you and why are you trespassing on our school grounds?!? - shouted one of them, whose eyes were covered by some kind of device with red-colored glass.

- I came here to visit my friend. But someone called James Howlett decided to bar me from entering. So I had no choice but to "break in". - I answered calmly.

- If you want to live, don't move until I find out. - The guy answered again, and in the meantime, the rest of the men got ready to fight, just in case.

I was too lazy to get into a fight. So I started to study everyone who was here. And there was a lot to see. A huge iron man that glistened in the sun as if polished. The second strange man was another man. Except he was completely covered in blue fur, like a blue Sasquatch. Of course there were guys and girls that looked ordinary among them, but those didn't look interesting at all.

At that moment I saw four people heading our way.

It was James, Ellie, some bald old guy in a wheelchair, and my beloved Liz.

- There you are! I warned you you'd be in trouble! - I grinned, and then I was literally in front of him in one leap, grabbing him by the neck and lifting him off the ground.

James grabbed my wrist and tried to pull my hand away from his neck, but the forces were not equal. Quickly realizing this, he clenched his hand into a fist, making steel claws grow out of it. I realized he wanted to use them on my arm. Before he could do that, I immediately put on my suit, and in the next instant his claws left a scratch on my arm.

- Haa, interesting claws. What are they made of? I'm not familiar with such strong metal. - I expressed my surprise at the stunned stares. Apparently they were surprised that James couldn't cut my arm off.

The fact that his claws could scratch the vibranium told me that the metal in them was stronger. Though vibranium was still more useful due to its individual properties.

- All right, live for now. I was interested in your claws, or I would have killed you. - I tossed James aside like a rag doll a dozen meters away and turned my attention to Liz.

- Liz, how are you? I hope you didn't get hurt around here. - I smiled at my girlfriend.

- Peter, I missed you so much! - The girl almost jumped up, and then rushed to me and threw herself into my arms.

- Young man, are you also a carrier of x-genes? - came the voice of an old man sitting in a wheelchair.

- Who knows, maybe I am. After all, x-genes are the next stage of human evolution. - I shrugged, continuing to hug Liz.

- But if you're referring to my abilities, no. They are of a completely different nature.

- I see. Anyway, welcome to my school. My name is Charles Xavier. - introduced myself.

- I know your name. I've had a chance to look at your file. I'd advise you to stay out of my head if you don't want to lose yours. - I cautioned the bald man.

- Peter, don't be rude. He's a good man. - Liz was pouting at that moment.

- Maybe he is. But I don't like the idea of someone getting inside my head and reading all my secrets. So I only gave him a warning. - I grinned.

- Don't you dare talk about the professor like that! - The guy with the red-glass glasses raised his voice again.

- Or what? You make a hole in me, you're a Cyclops cosplayer.

- YOU! - he wanted to explode, but Charles interrupted him.

- That's enough Scott! Calm down!

- But Professor..." the boy persisted.

- It's all right, the young man has a right to be angry. After all, it's our fault we didn't let him in....
