Chapter 16
After arriving home, Aunt May wouldn't comment on what had happened. Not even to joke about the way I'd acted with Gwen. She just said that Gwen was a nice girl, and that I shouldn't let her go.
Apparently the whole situation had exhausted her, so soon she said good night to me and went to bed.
But I didn't want to sleep at all, because the problem with the changes in my body didn't go away. And to find out what was wrong, I again needed access to a high-tech laboratory, but I didn't have another sixty thousand dollars.
I didn't want to rob an ATM again with my abilities. So I turned on my computer and encrypted the network, I went to the darknet. You could find anything on the darknet. From information about someone and drugs, to slaves and dangerous weapons. However, it was my first experience of being on the dark side of the internet, and this information made me skeptical. But numerous advertising banners with weapons and other Chitauri technologies, a lot of slave girls among which there were both adults and children, as well as assassins... all this made me take this resource more seriously.
But all I needed was information. After half an hour of searching, during which I saw a lot of pretty shocking stuff, I finally found what I needed. Namely all the "Big Bosses" of our city who are closely associated with crime. The information was worth eight hundred dollars, and I had about a thousand dollars left over from last time. Which I kept in the form of cryptocurrency, so I could perfectly hide my illegal savings from my aunt. Cryptocurrency was also used in the darknet, so that it was impossible to trace where the payment came from.
When you paid for the information, it was immediately unlocked for downloading. After downloading and opening the file, I began to study it. After all, I should have chosen the perfect victim, one who would have a lot of cash that he wouldn't be able to go to the police for.
Fifteen minutes of studying the information, and here I found the ideal candidate that will give me untold riches.
And that man was a rather famous businessman named Wilson Fisk. He was a rather tall, but at the same time fat man, thanks to which he possessed a decent physical strength almost at the peak of human capabilities. Fisk had tried several times to run for mayor of New York City, but each time, for some unknown reason, his candidacy was withdrawn. And now I understand why. Wilson Fisk was an incredibly violent man who built his business on the countless corpses of his competitors. His hands reached into many of the city's criminal gangs. And he was no stranger to dealing people, guns and drugs. And in the underworld, he was known as "Kingpin."
Kingpin lived on the ninetieth floor of the Central Park Tower, so his enemies usually had a hard time getting to him, but not me.
Glancing at the clock, I realized the time was nearing midnight, which meant Aunt May was definitely asleep.
At my speed, it would take me about half an hour to get to Central Park Tower, so without thinking, I silently stepped out the window, as I always did, and flew toward my destination.

As expected, half an hour later I was standing at the foot of the Central Park Tower. The building was incredibly tall, so I started climbing it the same way I had when I was about to fight the Lizard.
After a dozen seconds, I was already on the right floor, held up by my wall-climbing ability.
In all the rooms of the apartment, the lights were already off.
- "How lucky." - many people would think in this situation, but not me. Criminals like Kingpin don't usually sleep at night. According to information from the darknet, Kingpin was an incredibly intelligent person, and there was a high probability that he knew that someone had bought information about the crime bosses. And being smart and meticulous, he could have been specifically waiting for the "uninvited guest", purely just in case.
I was confident in my defenses, though. Even without the scales, I couldn't be injured by knives or firearms, but I activated the extra defense just in case, and then I let my claws out and started cutting through the glass.
With a nasty squeak I cut it open, and then pushing inside opened the entrance for me.
As soon as I entered the apartment and walked a dozen steps, the lights came on and a dozen armed men came running into the room, their appearance showing that they were well-trained.
- Well, who have we here? Some pathetic little bug? - Fisk entered the room.
- And who ordered me? If you answer, I'll consider keeping you alive. - he smiled confidently and proudly.
- Hmm, no one ordered you. You don't have to worry about that. I'm just here to rob you. And if you call off your men and hand over the money, I'll think about keeping you alive. - I mocked him with his own words.
- Hmm, you like humor, don't you? Let's see how you laugh after this, kill him! - Fisk gave the order, and then they opened fire on me.
A sharp jump to the right and forward, and here I am already cutting the rifle of the first mercenary with my claws, and in the next moment he is already slammed into the wall, receiving a merciless blow to the chest. It wasn't clear whether he was alive or not. Immediately after the first one, I dodged all the shots with a backflip, and regrouped in the air, braided a couple of careless spider webs, and sealed another one into the floor. The whole battle lasted about fifteen seconds, after which all the enemies except Fisk were lying either mangled or immobile due to the webs.
*Clap, CLAP, CLAP, CLAP* - Fisk began to clap his hands.
- Not bad skills young man, I like your kind. Would you like to work for me? - he made me an offer.
- Sorry Kingpin, but why would I want to work for a big uncle when I can just take whatever I want? - I grinned and then started looking around the room.
- Hmm, beating you up is no use to me. So just tell me where the safe is and I'll take the money and leave. It'll be good for me, and you won't get hurt. And besides, you got too much of it, so you won't feel the loss.
- Uh, the safe is right behind this painting. - He pointed to the wall where some old painting was hanging.
Quickly walking over to it, and taking it aside I finally saw what I came here for. In the next instant, I released my claws, and then just punched the door where the lock should have been. After that, I simply ripped the door off along with the hinges.
I noticed that Fisk wanted to attack me from behind while opening the safe, but when he saw how easily I turned it into a pile of scrap metal, he calmed down.
As I suspected, there was a lot of money in there, estimated to be around eight million dollars. Quickly putting everything in my bag, I walked to the window and took one last look at Kingpin.
- Goodbye Kingpin, I advise you not to try to look for me. After all, if you do, I can quickly find you and kill you! - I jumped out the window and flew away on a spider web. Well, I did not touch him, because, if something happens to him, in New York there will be a real war for the right to control his territories. And he's not really bothering me, because if anything, I can come to him again for money....
