Chapter 12: Meeting Invincible

After that little talk with Cecil, Mark decided to go and find Invincible and invite him to become his student. But to do that, he needed to find where he lives, as neither in the animation or the comics was his location mentioned. Even if it had been mentioned, or even remotely pointed somewhere specific, Mark would still ignore the place for now, as he feels like there are a lot of people on this planet with very special powers. People he would now go to find.

So, Mark is currently floating up in the clouds looking down at the continent of North America, his eyes piercing all the clouds in the way, looking straight upon the ground. Right now, he is scanning the entirety of North America to see if the interesting people are on this continent or not. And wouldn't you know it, three of the four are in North America, the last one is in Asia.

The first person in North America, and perhaps the weakest of the group is a Mexican girl named Carmen. One of her powers is flight, which not only gives her the necessary durability to fly at high speed, top Mach 1, but also the perception to go at that speed and understand her surroundings. She can also create energy blast, but that's it, just energy blasts, however, the good thing about this is that it is not any specific energy and neither does it have a peak. Just as long as she has the required amount of energy to form the initial ball, then she can add however much energy she wants, making the blast bigger, stronger, faster, etc.

The second person also has one of the most powerful elemental abilities a being could possibly have, Ice-Fire Manipulation. His name is Liam, and he is a white American, however, his abilities have yet to awaken. Otherwise, he would be one of the most famed heroes in the entire world, being able to completely manipulate and create any type of fire or ice he can imagine. It can go so far as even being able to create End Flames, which are the literal flames that cause the heat death of a universe.

The third person is an African American, Izaak, and he has the power of Freedom. Meaning he is free from all restrictions in existence, including but not limited to, physical laws, universal laws, multiversal laws, etc. He could theoretically travel anywhere, anytime, anyhow, and anywhen he wants. Yet that freedom does not extend to being free from Mark's power, as he IS Omnipotent. If there were no omnipotent beings in existence when he awakened his powers, he would be equal to a being of that caliber. However, his abilities have yet to awaken.

The fourth and last one, a Chinese woman named Chen Jun, who has Concept Manipulation, but is also yet to awaken. Most of these people will probably never awaken their powers in their entire lifetime, as this universe does not allow these types of powers. However, if she were ever to awaken, she would basically be Omnipotent, except her power would only reach concepts, their creation, and their manipulation.

However, Mark would talk to them later, right now is Invincible time. Turns out that Invincible lives in a small town a little bit away from Washington D.C., where he will come to do his super heroics. So, with Invincibles' location, Mark starts flying over to Invincibles' home. The flight took around a few minutes because of the massive distance from where he was to his destination, and the massive speed reduction if Mark didn't want to carry the atmosphere with him.

When he finally arrived, Mark looked down at the house from the backyard. He was currently floating in the air, when he said, "Grayson! Come!" Out of the house comes a speeding figure, which briefly stops in front of Mark.

"Who are you?" Invincible asks with caution.

"Who I am doesn't matter right now. What does matter is the choice you will have to make."

"What…? Who are you? How do you know where I live?" Invincible asked with growing caution and anger. However, Mark doesn't answer and simply floats towards Invincible slowly, while searching for something in his pockets. Invincible takes this the wrong way, and proceeds to punch Mark in the face.

*CRUNCH*

A heart-wrenching sound, along with a small shockwave explode out from the impact point. Invincibles' eyes widen at the result and then his face winces as the pain from the broken bones travels to his brain. Invincible is cringing in pain, when suddenly, Mark taps Invincibles' chest lightly, sending him flying backwards towards his backyard.

Crashing into his own backyard and creating a small crater, Invincible stands up slowly with his now ripped and broken shirt almost falling of his body. Invincible starts taking flight slowly, hoping that Mark wouldn't notice during his pocket searching, and when he reached a good height, he launched himself towards Mark.

Taking off, Invincible left behind a small shockwave of air, that ruffled Deborah Grayson's clothes when she opened the door. Seeing her son blasting off towards an unknown being with a mad and angry glare, she couldn't help but start to worry. Her worries seemed to come true when the unknown being grabbed her son by his face and again sent him towards the same crater he created before, making it deeper.

After this first toss, Invincible seemed to learn that going at it headfirst was not the right move, so he chose to try and divert Mark's attention. Invincible flew at Mark headfirst while screaming. Mark was wondering why Invincible was screaming, for a powerup? A sudden breakthrough into the next great realm? Or just to hype himself up? Well, it doesn't matter.

With that, Invincible somewhat succeeded in distracting Mark, as he not only managed to land a hit on Mark, but also move him a little. What Invincible did was something that he wasn't sure he could do, as it required a sudden change in flight direction while flying at, at least, 25 mph (40 kmh).

He had only just recently awakened his powers, not even more than a day ago, so making these sudden movements while flying would either cause him to fall or make his ears bleed. His Viltrumite genes are just starting to dominate his human genes, and therefore, doing extreme things that would be fatal or heavily injure normal humans now just causes him mild damage.

But anyway, seeing that Invincible managed to not only use tactics while in the heat of combat, but even managed to move him, even if it was just a little, Mark decided to entertain Invincible in a true fight between superpowered beings. Like that, Mark backhanded Invincible across the face, sending him flying into the clouds. Deborah's worries grew, along with her anger.

However, before she could go off and berate Mark, he turned around and looked at her, then he said, "Don't worry, he will be fine." With that, Mark took off after Invincibles' disappearing figure, leaving behind an apprehensive and shocked Deborah. Coming out of her shocked state, she ran inside the house, grabbed her phone, and called Nolan.

Speaking of Mark, he can be seen flying after Invincibles' figure. Invincibles' face displayed so many emotions that it was hard to differentiate between them. However, the most prominent ones were fear, astonishment, some anger, and struggle, probably trying to stabilize himself but failing.

Catching up to Invincible, Mark grabbed ahold of him and went to punch him, restraining his usable strength and speed to a point where Invincible could just barely take it. Invincible seeing the punch rapidly traveling towards his face, went to block, but judged himself too slow, he closed his eyes and waited for the blow to land.

However, finding nothing hitting his face for several long minutes, he slightly peaked at the being still holding him, and grew wide-eyed at seeing the outstretched arm next to his head. Invincible in his shock, slowly turned his head towards Mark robotically, still wide-eyed, with small shock crossing his eyes.

"Wha..?" Invincible muttered when he looked at Mark's smiling, kind face, which did not change while letting him go and straightening his clothes-or what's left of them-out, then letting him go. Now both parties were floating in the air, somewhere above some farmlands near Washington D.C., looking at each other, Mark with a smile on his face and Invincible looked at him with shock.

"Congratulations! You passed the test." Mark said with the same smile, while extending his hand out. Invincible took Mark's hand and shook it on instinct and asked, "Umm… So, who are you?"

"Right! I am Quad-Elemental, alien, mentor of superpowered beings, and explorer." Mark said. Invincible finally came out of his shocked state, and looked towards Mark with indignation, asking, "WHAT WAS ALL THAT FOR?"

"That was a test."

"A TEST? A test for what?"

"Well, to see if you were at the required level to be able to be mentored by me, and to gauge your strength myself."

Hearing the first few words but not the rest of the answer, Invincible was about to go off at Mark with massive and ugly words when he stopped and ran the sentence through his head again. Much to his shock, he had completely ignored the last part of the sentence, and with a shocked face, he asked.

"Me? Mentored by you?... Why?" He asked

"Because you are a Viltrumite! A strong one as well, and you just awakened your powers. You are a strong individual if you haven't noticed and you need to learn to control it properly, with the right guidance."

"So? Would you like to learn from me?"

"Who are you anyway?"

"Ah… right! I haven't said that part yet. Let me introduce myself again."

"I am Quad-Elemental, alien, part of the Coalition of Mentors, explorer, scientist, adventurer, etc., etc. The Coalition of Mentors deals with teaching newly awakened superpowered beings in the universe, how to control their powers, and that's why I'm here."

They stay quite for a long time as Invincible is processing all this information. "Might I suggest we head back to your home while you think it over." Invincible dumbly nodded and started flying in the direction of his home with Mark following close behind him. After making it to Invincibles home, Deborah came out of the house running straight at Invincible, looking him over for injuries.

He was lightly bruised but nothing too serious. After they landed, Invincible seemed to have finally made a decision as he turned to Mark and said, "I won't be your student, I already have a teacher myself."

"Ah.. yes! The mature Viltrumite. Ok then, let me know if you change your mind!" Mark waved at them before blasting off at the speed of sound.
