Chapter 15 - Darkness or Destruction?

Scarlett decided it would be wise to test out her affinities for a bit before heading home.

After she changed in her training attire comprised of black leggings and a black kings sleeve she tied up her long silver hair into a ponytail. Strapping her dual daggers to her thighs she was ready to start.

She grabbed a black robe from her space ring Elle prepared and decided to find some flat ground to practice on. The surrounding area was over flowing with flora and fauna that she felt it a waste if it got destroyed when she started experimenting.

With her hood up she started searching. Gathering spirit energy in her legs she was going to push off the ground and jump on to a tree when she felt something off. Not thinking too much she jumped off the ground and before she could react, flew straight up and hit a tree branch.

With a thump she fell back down.

"What the hell",she cursed while running her nose. She only circulated a little bit of spirit energy in her legs, how did she jump so high?

Getting up from the grown she noticed that the area she jumped from looked like a bone hit it. The grass was all destroyed and brittle like someone sucked out the vitality.

'Huh? That wasn't like that before', she would know obviously, she had stood there before.

Then it clicked.

She must have circulated darkness energy when she wanted to circulate spirit energy.

'Is darkness energy that strong?'

Looking back at the decaying grass on the ground she frowned,

"If I use my affinity, will I destroy my surroundings? Not that there's a problem with that but I did this unconsciously, this could end up a problem."

This time she paid more attention to when she circulated her spirit energy and jumped off the ground.

Jumping to the very top she stopped and decided it would be fine to try it out here.

Deep in thought, she pondered aloud,

"It seams that I could my darkness energy in my core without spirit energy. That would actually be pretty convenient if I were to ever run out of spirit energy I could use the former. It also seams much stronger. Let's start practicing control then. I don't want to be walking and my energy just to start destroying the surrounding", that would just be like asking for attention which she could care less about.

Standing on the latest branch, just like how she circulated spirit energy in her body she did the same with darkness energy. Everywhere the darkness touched, her body felt a cold chill.

'Looks like I'll have to get used to that', she grumbled in her mind.

Using the darkness energy in her legs she jumped on to another tree, trying to control the darkness not to destroy the area she pushed off of and landed.

And she did this until noon.

Panting, Scarlett laid on the forest floor. She had been at it for hours and finally got the jist of things. As long as she kept the energy in her body the surrounding wouldn't be destroyed. But she also learned how to control the damage to the surroundings when the energy was out side her body.

"I'd say this was totally worth not headed home and sleeping!"

*grumble*

Realizing that she hadn't eaten in a while, she took out a thermos that contained warm water and drank some to clench her thirst, along with some dried manga.

"Mmmm, you can never go wrong with dried mango", she mumbled to her self while she got up.

Holding her thermos in one hand and her dried mango in the other she headed further into the forest to take a walk.

"Might as well take a little walk before we go home, since I haven't really seen anything in this world except for my house. Elle did talk about Astros being a place full of treasures maybe I could find one? Well it's fine if I don't anyways", with that said the little girl with a black robe on headed further into the forest unaware of the encounters she would make.
