1. Elise Winters

<p>A beautiful woman who was more than six feet tall with dark brown complexion with a head full of dark brown hair that reaches the middle of her back held a young baby boy, who seems to only be a few months old, looks the little girl standing before her with some urgency, "Remember what I always say, Elise. You have to be invisible to stay safe and hidden. Do you understand?"<br/><br/>The little girl looks to the woman with her big brow eyes reflecting the woman's own nodded and replied, "Yes, mommy."<br/><br/>The woman ruffles the little girl's hair, "Good girl. Now listen to mommy carefully. Mommy has to go away for a little while and you need to stay here. You must always remember what I always say, okay?"<br/><br/>The little girl begins to cry after hearing what her mother's words, "Why can't I go with you, mommy? I promise I'll be a good girl, I'll even help with little Eric. Please don't leave me behind, mommy." She hugged her mother's legs with her short arms as tears streamed down her plump cheeks, afraid that her mother would disappear if she let go.<br/><br/>The woman's heart softens and she tries to persuade her, "Oh, my Elise. Don't cry. You'll only be here for a little bit before I come back for you. You'll have a comfortable bed to sleep in by yourself, you'll also have nice food to eat."<br/><br/>The little girl named Elise insists, "But I want to sleep in a comfortable bed with you and eat nice food with you mommy, and little Eric too."<br/><br/>"Elise, be good. We will do all those things and more together when I return. I'll even bring you and little Eric to the beach then the amusement park or circus when I come back for you. Sweetie, stop crying, mommy will be back for you before you know it." The woman promised as she helped Elise put on her backpack. She gave Elise a kiss on the forehead before turning around and leaving her at the gates of the pack orphanage of the Northern Grey Wolf Tribe.<br/><br/>****<br/>'Back for you before you know it'<br/><br/>The present eighteen years old Elise rolled over on her side and groaned from the rays of the sun peaking through the cracks in the thin curtains covering the windows that hit her in the face and the gentle voice of her mother that haunts her almost every night in her dreams after she was left at the orphanage. She tried to continue sleeping but couldn't fall back asleep. She dragged her weary body out of the bed that cold only hold one person, looked at the old clock on the on her also old bedside table which showed that it was 7:39 am, then went to the bathroom with her pouch containing her toiletries to get ready.<br/><br/>Most of the kids in the pack who went to the high school in the town with the humans would leave their homes by 7:00 am.<br/><br/>After doing her business she showered to get ready for the day. Leaving the bathroom with her things, she brought them back to her room. She locks the door of her room before pulling out the same backpack her mother had given her from under the bed she slept on. Opening it up, she took out the box and placed it on the bed. She shifted the small key hole to reveal a slightly bigger and round hole, she places a small round crystal on a chain in the hole then twisted it like a key before flipping the box open to reveal two dozen of the same perfume bottles that were all filled with a purple liquid close to the lid on top of some folded papers. She took out one of the spray bottles and sprayed herself with it then placed it back in the box before locking it by twisting the small crystal to its original position, she removes the crystal and shifts the key hole to hide the small round hole. She puts the box back in the old backpack, pushes it back under the bed as far as she could then wears the crystal on a chain as a necklace under her blouse.<br/><br/>At first Elise didn't know why her mother had given her the perfume for in the box or why she had always stressed the importance of never telling anyone about it until she had to follow the recipe also left in the box on how to make it. She found that it was a concoction that could throw off a werewolf's sense of smell. Though Elise had know idea why he mother would want her to wear this perfume, she trusted that it was safe for her to use since she had also seen her mother wear it and would even spray it on little Eric's clothes. She also believed that it was somehow connected to why her mother always made them move around a lot.<br/><br/>Her earliest memories were of her and her mother running from someone or something that seemed to always be chasing after them, wherever they went. They never really had a permanent home or a pack they could depend on to support them. Elise had thought that things would change after her mother became pregnant with her little brother, Eric, but just four months after her mother gave birth to him they were on the move again, and only one month later after moving thrice was she left behind in the Northern Grey Wolf Tribe to wait for her mother's return.<br/><br/>In the six years that she has waited for her mother, Elise has hoped an prayed that she would just return for her. Of course with the words of her bullying peers she has wondered if perhaps her mother was dead somewhere along with her little brother, if she had gotten tired of her and decided to abandon her after raising her for twelve years, or if she was trapped in a situation where she wanted to come back for her but couldn't. Elise couldn't tell which was worse but she knew she wanted her mother and brother to be alive and well but she also wishes that she was not abandoned. Though after spending a whole year by without her mother, the hope she had died a little everyday. Now that she was eighteen, legally an adult, she has completely lost hope for her mother's return for her.<br/><br/>Instead of endlessly waiting and having to continue to put up with the disgusted and hateful eyes and words of the pack, she has decided to leave after graduating high school and either become a modern nomad, travelling around the world, or to go to college and start working to build a home for herself and live a normal life.<br/><br/>Elise brought her shoes and bag to the kitchen to pack her lunch and make breakfast she could have on the way. She was not surprised to see that only the lady-in-charge and two helpers were still around. All the little children had been brought to the pack school by some of the helpers while the older children who could control themselves to not shift in public and reveal their existence went to attend the school in town.<br/><br/>At the orphanage, the older kids would prepare their own breakfast while the cook would prepare the breakfast for the younger kids and workers and the lunch for everyone. She would start cooking as early as at around four in the morning as she was cooking for the more than three dozen children in the orphanage, the ten helpers, herself and the lady-in-charge.<br/><br/>After making herself a tuna sandwich for breakfast, she wrapped it in plastic. Elise then cleans up the plates and other utensils she used, packed her lunch in her kit before putting it in her bag then left the four floor house in a hurry for school.</p>
