The Day

"Honestly, I racked my tired brain and I can only think of me and my father, we suddenly moved to here about sixty years ago" responded the man scratchin the side of his head.

"Do you know why you had to move away? And where did you live before?" she asked, realising she might have come off as a bit too intense all of a sudden but the old man didn't seem to notice or ignored it.

"Not really, I don't know exactly why but I remember-" Linda was so focused on what he was saying, that she was completely taken aback when the back door was opened, there a young-looking woman was standing, her right hand hidden behind her back and he black hair covering the greater part of her face.

"Don't worry sweetheart, she is a guest" told the old man, the girl didn't say anything back and just moved out of sight, her right hand still held behind her back.

"So? What is it that you remember?" Linda prompted the old man to continue but he seemed a bit lost all of a sudden and appeared to have completely forgotten what he was talking about.

"Oh yes! I think my father had spoken with the owner of the nearby farm about it, it is the father of the young man that was there a while ago, just follow the path on the side of the house, and you'll stumbled upon it" he said, pointing in the vague direction where the path was.

"Alright, thank you for your time sir" she thanked him, quickly making her way out of the house.

After she was gone, the old man stood up, his gaze still sharp despite the years, he walked up to a window, confirming that Linda was on her way toward the pathway.

"Lissy" he called his daughter, who quickly appeared beside him.

"It's time for you to make your debut, make sure to take care of her in particular" he asked her, she nodded her head and quickly went away to prepare, loading the van with the necessary equipment and putting what appeared to be nothing more than a piece of bark on her face.

Meanwhile, Linda was walking on the pathway, night wasn't coming soon but she was still preoccupied about something, the old man had seemed and acted perfectly normal during their conversation but their was the apparently fake state he was in with the young man and also...

Their was simply something off about his look, his eyes weren't normal, for starters, she hadn't pointed it out but they weren't a normal color, purple wasn't a possible shade for the human eye, although, she guessed that it might be some sort of disease.

What really made her suspicious, was the way he looked around at everything around him, there was something odd about it, as if he was constantly wondering how to do something with what was around.

Her thoughts her interrupted when she stumbled upon a certain person's art project, passed out from pain and bloodloss, the young man was nailed to the ground with rusty nails.

The nails hadn't been pushed in a little bit, someone had hammered them until there was no further way of pushing any deeper.

Though, the young man wasn't quite dead yet, it seemed unlikely that he would survive even if a full medical team just appeared right there to take care of him but Linda still attempted to call for emergency.

There was no signal to be had in these backwater woods however.

Linda looked around carefully, he hadn't ended up in this situation by accident, the culprit could be anywhere still, she took a hold of the gun she kept hidden on her person, just in case she did run into the Ghost.

Something moved in a bush some distance away, she aimed toward it, expecting at least an animal to come darting out but instead, someone just dropped from tree right next to her, grabbing her gun and aiming it against her.

The strength of her assaillant was many time greater than her own, before they could push the trigger and blow her brain, she put the safety on.

She tried to think at the barked-faced person knees and crotch without managing to get them to budge at all.

Since the attacker was only holding the gun, she let go of it and taking a step back, she was able to kick with full force at their stomach while they also stepped away due to suddenly not having her fighting for the gun.

Still, the bark-masked person, who was definitely the old man's daughter, as they were clearly dressed the same, didn't fall and was just pushed a bit.

Linda instantly started running in zigzag between trees, although her assaillant wasn't planning on shooting her, she just put the gun away and began watching her run away, as she started only walking a bit.

Linda, sprinting at full speed, quickly arrived at her car, she feared the descent she had taken would be something she wouldn't be able to cross but with her speed and driving off the main path, she was able to get past it.

She got on an actual road after a while, quickly noticing the rusty van arriving behind her, the driver hidden by the filth covering the windshield.

Linda picked up some more speed, it was no problem on such a straight road but she noticed that this old piece of metal on wheels was actually much faster than it seemed.

The mechanical pieces on the inside must be in much better shape than the exterior would suggest, she could see the old van steadily gaining on her even as they both went way beyond the speed limit.

She felt the front of the van hitting the back of her pick-up, she managed to keep it from getting on her sides and keep it behind her for a while, but after a while of driving at top speeds, the closest city came into view and the small road widened, allowing her pursuer to ram into her from the side.

The van forced her off the road as the sun was setting, forcing her to crash into a huge field of sunflowers.
