Can’t Afford to Embarrass My Family!

Editor: Henyee Translations

Gideon had a strong-willed profile and a dignified, distant aura making him seem mature and intelligent.

He was genuinely the kind of man who would make a woman's heart throb.

"Stop looking at me!" said the man suddenly.

Freya felt awkward. She hurriedly veered her eyes away, but she promptly felt something was amiss, so she turned to look at Gideon again. "I am checking out the scenery. Is it any of your business?"

"Oh, really?"

Freya retorted. "How could I be looking at you?"

"Shut up. You are too noisy!"

Freya went quiet.

He did not like anything she said!

The Rolls Royce Ghost pulled up at the Mount Plenty Old Folks' Home 20 to 30 minutes later.

When the car pulled up, Freya undid her seat belt, but the man said, "Don't move."

The moment he finished his sentence, he got out of the car without waiting for an answer from her.

She sat in the car obediently and waited as she complained to herself about how demanding he was.

A few minutes later, she could hear knocking on the window as the man said coolly, "Get out!"

Freya got out of the car to see the man carrying some fruit along with a bottle of tonic for the elderly.

Freya was caught by surprise and felt touched. The dimple on her left cheek was visible as she smiled. "Did you get all this?"

Gideon noticed Freya smiling sincerely. She looked harmless and guileless. He did not know what came over him when he decided to take a second look at her.

"Even if you have the cheek to come empty handed, I can't afford to embarrass my family!"

Freya pouted. "Okay. I got it."

Gideon walked straight towards the old folks' home.

A few steps later, when he realized Freya did not follow behind him, he frowned and looked at her. "Aren't you going to show me the way?"

Freya finally realized her mistake, so she pulled him by the arm rather naturally.

Gideon instantly wanted to pull his hand away from her but she held it very tightly. He asked angrily, "What are you doing?"

This was the first time Freya ever looked at them man imploringly. "Can you help me, please? I want my grandmother to see how good my husband is to me. She can only set her mind at ease if we are a loving couple."

It was the first time Freya had ever humbly begged Gideon ever since they got married.

The man said nothing and looked away, but he no longer attempted to pull his arm away from her.

Freya felt relieved and grateful that he did not retaliate.

Just as Freya was about to bring Gideon to see her grandmother, the last person she wanted to see suddenly walked over.

It was Freya's grandmother's nurse, Rebecca Bailey.

Thoughts kept running through her mind as she thought about what she should say about the outstanding old folks' home fees.

Rebecca had already walked up to the two of them and automatically looked at the handsome man standing beside Freya, before looking at her. "Freya, are you here to visit your grandmother?"

"Uh huh." Nodded Freya.

Rebecca quickly said, "Your grandmother's fees for the next quarter are…"

Before Rebecca was able to finish her sentence, Freya let go of Gideon and walked up towards Rebecca. "Rebecca, someone has already called me about the fees, and I will send the money."

Freya pointed at the man nearby and quickly told Rebecca, "That is my friend over there. I don't want him to know I owe the old folks' home money. Do you mind not bringing it up in front of him please?"
