Chapter 4 The Heartless Man

The commotion here caught people's attention, and many looked over in curiosity. The security guard of the reception also hastened over. Seeing Selena dressed casually, everyone assumed she was a waitress. In addition, this was a high-end reception, which meant the security guard was particularly snobbish. Without asking any questions, he immediately went up to Selena, pushed her, and escorted her out of the hall.

As Tiana had hot sauce in her eyes, she was taken to the hospital right away. Meanwhile, Josephine's expensive evening gown was covered in sauce, not to forget the vivid slap mark on her face. Upon hearing the news, Christopher hurried over and was somewhat surprised to see Josephine's disheveled appearance. "What happened?" he asked.

Josephine was actually reluctant to let Christopher know about Selena's appearance, but it was impossible to hide it any longer now. With a mournful expression, she tearfully told the man who had just rushed over, "Christopher, I saw Ms. Yates. She's working here as a waitress. I'm not sure why, but when she saw me and Tiana, she deliberately spilled juice on us. Tiana couldn't stand it and reprimanded her a little, but she suddenly went crazy, dumping food on Tiana and even hitting me..."

Stunned, Christopher scouted around but did not see Selena. Josephine squeezed out two tears and added, "I just got splashed with food and received a slap, but Tiana had hot sauce in her eyes. Ms. Yates was initially aiming for me. Tiana took the hit for me instead!"

Christopher looked at her pitiful appearance, his expression grim. He reached out and patted Josephine, who was wiping her tears, and questioned coldly, "Where is she?"

"The security guard took her away!"

"Let's go take a look!"

As he spoke, he helped the disheveled Josephine out of the hall. In the meantime, Selena was taken to a room next to the hall by the security guard. A few security guards were berating her while simultaneously calling the police.

Selena sat on the couch with her head down, her body drenched in wine. Being brought here had finally calmed her down.

I should have just swallowed my pride, but I couldn't control myself in the heat of the moment. Now that I've caused such a scene, Zachary surely won't let me off the hook later. That spoiled rich kid has a remarkably bad temper, especially when it comes to me.

She was the assistant that Bryan Darson forcefully assigned to Zachary.

Since it was forced upon him, Zachary, that living devil, had always disliked Selena and deliberately made things difficult for her. Now that she had caused such a commotion, he would certainly fire her.

While she was on edge, the door was abruptly pushed open, and a gust of cold air hit her face. Selena looked up and found herself gazing into a pair of deep, mysterious eyes.

Three years ago, after Christopher heartlessly had Lionel deliver the divorce papers and forced Selena to sign them, she left this sorrowful place.

In the past three years, she had never thought she would meet Christopher again. She had planned to avoid him for the rest of her life, but she never expected to run into him on her very first day back in Atlanta.

She was in such a pathetic state, whereas he looked down at her with an air of superiority as he always did, holding Josephine's waist with one hand. Is he here to confront me and demand an explanation?

Suppressing the turmoil in her heart, Selena withdrew her gaze indifferently.

We're meeting again as strangers. Since we're strangers, what's there for me to be sad about?

Christopher's eyes narrowed when he saw Selena looking away dispassionately. While supporting Josephine, he marched into the room and spoke in a voice cold enough to send shivers down one's spine. "Apologize!"

Selena pursed her lips wordlessly. He wants me to apologize to a homewrecker, especially when I haven't done anything wrong? In his dreams!

Christopher's face grew even darker at her silent treatment. "Selena Yates, didn't you hear me telling you to apologize?"

"Apologize? For what? Mr. Morris, do you think you're above the law?" Selena smirked with contempt.

"Whether or not I am the law doesn't matter. What matters is that you've hurt someone intentionally. Tiana has already been sent to the hospital. I'm sure you know the consequences!"

The threat in his words was unmistakable. Selena was aware that he wasn't angry for Tiana's sake but rather for Josephine. Nonetheless, there was no way she'd apologize. She gave a faint smile and said, "Mr. Morris, since your power and influence are boundless, do as you please, then. I'll be waiting. As for the apology, perhaps in the next life!"

Seeing her apathetic countenance and hearing her frigid tone, Christopher felt as if something was clogged in his chest, causing him great discomfort.

"Selena Yates, since you're going to be so stubborn, don't blame me for it!" He glanced at Selena icily before turning to the security guard to ask, "Did you call the police yet?"

"Yes!" the security guard replied respectfully.

"Then, we'll let the police handle this impartially! I hope you can still be this strong-willed at the police station!" stated Christopher.
