Kiefer Edmund

Dr Matt calmly sat on the seat facing Kiefer. The lights of the room flickered briefly, casting dancing shadows upon the two individuals of the room.

The boy looked tired, worn out and pale.

Adjusting on his seat and propping his folders atop his lap, the young doctor prepared to deliver probably the most disturbing message this young man might receive.

'I know I'm experiencing symptoms of the Weave, doctor,' Kiefer said, breaking the uneasy silence.

The doctor's face tensed

'Oh... How did you realize that?' Dr Matt asked

'There's hardly anyone who isn't aware of the Weave, sir.' Kiefer stood up from the bed slowly and walked to the nearest window.

A soft breeze caressed his cheek as he took in the brilliant view of the hospital environment from the last floor

'I see,' Dr Matt said,'well since you're already aware the allow me to give you a few words of advice.'

Turning slowly, Kiefer was facing the doctor

Dr Matt walked up slowly to him and came to stand a few centimeters away from Kiefer

'The Weave is a destructive spell, Mister Edmund,' he said,' it is corrupt in it's nature because if not taught how to wield it properly, one can be driven to the brink of madness.'

Kiefer could feel his heart sink into his stomach, his chest heavy with anxiety and stress of what lay ahead of him.

An icy cold shiver traversed the length of his spine.

Dr Matt sighed

'My intention is not to scare you,' he said,' I believe your parents are also aware of this, we had this discussion and are planning to send you to an academy that gives proper training to students who are exposed to the Weave.'

'I was never informed about that...' The look on Kiefer's face spelled fear and anxiety.

He had never had to fight for his life and as such, this was new to him.

'I lost my wife to the Weave a few years ago.'

They had both walked out of the room to the balcony that projected out of the floors of the room and were both staring into the distance.

A nervous tension ensued.

'We didn't have the resources neither did we have the knowledge about it,' Dr Matt said slowly,'I tried my best to save her but it was already too late. She couldn't bear it any more, the world was becoming a blur before her eyes, her senses were failing her and she was falling apart.'

Kiefer turned to look at Dr Matt. His expression was cool and yet stressed. Something about this man spoke volumes of how strong he was, how much he had been through.

Extending his hand, he placed a palm on the doctor's shoulder and squeezed reassuringly.

That was when Dr Matt said something.

Something Kiefer wasn't prepared to hear.

'She killed herself with the gun in our safe.'

To Dr Matt, that was the day everthing changed.

The colours of the world were nothing to him but a putrid, insensible mash.

He went through depression and grief, suffering alone as there were no living relatives of either of his late wife, very similar to him.

Kiefer drew in a sharp breath and slowly exhaled, feeling his chest heave with the pain and tire of having held his breath for quite a few seconds devoid of breathing.

*********

Kiefer was bound for the hangar that was prepared by the workers of Qichi Lake Academy.

He was briefed on what he should expect as well as taught a few things about his destination.

The rainstorm was still brewing and chiming, droplets of rain trickling with dashing speed down the windowpane he looked through.

The discussion with Dr Matt still hurt considerably.

He could still feel the burn such words had left him with.

Charred, he thought

Kiefer decided within himself that no matter how hard things get, he was going to stand strong and true to himself.

He could feel a certain confidence overcome him, it's very nature pusling through his veins, ripping the fibers of his being and reassembling them back, just to be ripped apart once more.

A new kind of mentality

A new kind of approach

Clutching his seatbelt, he hoped to make a few friends in his new destination. This was going to be his life from today onwards.

Looking closely into the windowpane, Kiefer could make out the outline of his facial features.

Kiefer had dark brown skin tone, his irises were light brown and his eyes possessed a piercing gaze.

His attention diverted by a sudden jolt of the vehicle. It seemed to have encountered a speed bump.

Nevertheless, the car rode on.

In the far distance on the wet asphalt, a massive structure could be noticed.

A black gate stood between the winding road and the hangar.

One could make out a few dozen airplanes gracefully sitting atop the ground.

The airplanes stretched upwards and made as though it were about to cut the skies.

The Bentley Brookland Coupe veered to a stop in front of the massive gate.

Up close, Kiefer could see the immaculate greenery that adorned the gates of this massive structure.

The air definitely smelled more crisp and fresh closeby, he could only marvel at such miracle.

As the luxury vehicle neared the black gate, there was a great cranking sound and jolt on the irons.

Soon, the beautiful black gate opened towards the inner compound.

Kiefer was already inching to see into it.

A revving of engines and the Bentley strode gracefully into the immaculate hangar.

There was a long winding driveway lined by tendered bushes and a few trees that seemed as though they were cutting the sky

It was a sight to behold.

In its magical beauty, there were jets all slowed down to a halt in mesmerizing symphony, sitting atop the smooth ground of the hangar.

As the luxury car rounded a corner in a parking space, the driver, Mr. Harris, opened the door and walked to the back of the car to unload Kiefer's items

It was an awestruck bronze teenager who stepped out of the Bentley Brooklamd Coupe that moment.

Dressed in a deep blue quarter zip polo shirt and grey dress trousers, Kiefer looked like a noble young man.

He was still marveling at the sight when the driver, Mr Harris, strode next to him with two brown traveling boxes and a duffel bag.

'Thank you very much, sir,' Kiefer said in a bright tone, addressing his chauffeur.

'It is my pleasure, Master Edmund,' Mr Harris said, flashing a brilliant set of white dentition at Kiefer.

Kiefer grinned gratefully

A warm handshake and a brief hug, the luxury vehicle was bound out of the immense structure and out through the colossal black gate.

A sigh ensued.

Kiefer was going to miss his personal chauffeur. His father had hired Mr Harris to serve as one for Kiefer.

Mr Harris had been Kiefer's chauffeur since he was much younger and now, the late teenager had no idea if he was ever going to see him or his family for a while.

A sound broke his thought process and jolted him back to reality.

Currently, he was standing in the way of a very sleek sport vehicle that was about to pull into a parking space.

The sleek vehicle blew it's horn once again.

A soft hum emanated from the vehicle, smooth as silk, sweet as molasses.

Kiefer washed in the sound.

Regaining space and time, the young boy rolled his boxes towards a manicured, green, lush, lawn, clearing the path he previously blocked.

As the sports vehicle slid into a corner, Kiefer's attention was drawn to the environment on which he stood on.

Numerous jets littered the field, their pointy nose jutting out into the surrounding space, threatening to pierce the air at any given moment.

They had a grey sheen to them and looked more otherworldly than real.

Glancing back to the sleek vehicle, Kiefer noticed that a man dressed in a rather corporate uniform stepped out of the front seat and proceeded to open the rear door.

A young man, perhaps within the age range as Kiefer himself, stepped out.

He was smartly dressed, a maroon polo, dress trousers, a black jacket and a fancy wristwatch.

Kiefer noticed that himself and this boy bore the same dress style.

The boy had black lustrous hair that was smoothed to the back of his head and skin as white and smooth as alabaster.

His eyes were sweltering, ethereal blue that reminded one of the beautiful blue of the sky.

Still watching, the young man walked towards the booth of the sleek sports car to receive his luggage.

Double pecks, a light hug and the uniformed chauffer was driving through the driveway, the sports vehicle cruising off, out of the massive gate.

As the young man gathered himself, he noticed a smartly dressed young boy looking towards his direction.

Coming to his senses after being dazed by such grand entrance, Kiefer realized the gentleman was striding proudly towards him.
