As though a flip had been switched in her brain, Halia's eyes suddenly flew open and she quickly pushed Sean away in shock. What just happened? How did she lose control like that?
With no time to think, she immediately grabbed the mop from the closet and slipped out. She then smiled and handed the mop to Jackson just as he reached her.
"Is everything OK? Did you hurt your foot? What took so long?" he asked worriedly.
"I didn't see it even though it was right in front of me," she laughed in a dopey manner.
Jackson gently patted her on the head. He then put the broom aside and carried her in his arms.
"What are you doing?" Halia asked in surprise.
"I told you to rest your foot," he warned dotingly as he carried her into the bedroom and lay her on the bed.
Halia lay down and looked up at the man in front of her. Just behind him, she could see the closet where Sean was hiding through the doorway. At this moment, she saw the closet door slowly open.
Sean's head poked out slowly and he looked at her. Their eyes met for a moment, before he ran for the stairs.
"I'm going to go back out and mop the floor," Jackson said as he leaned over and placed a kiss on Halia's forehead.
Halia quickly panicked as she hooked her arms around the man's neck. Jackson looked down at Halia. "What? Do you miss me already?" he teased.
Halia looked into the man's eyes with slight guilt. Just a moment ago, she was kissing another man in the closet. It was odd. Last time she had a flashback of Sara with Sean, she was completely disgusted by it. This time, it was just an initial disgust. But, she felt like she lost control both times, even though she had no romantic feelings for Sean. What was wrong with her? Had she been lonely for too long? Was her mind somehow getting confused? She had to speak to Dr. Li and Eric when she got out of the lab. Could it have something to do with Sara's memories? She even began to question whether her feelings for Jackson were real.
At that moment, Jackson gently brushed a strand of hair out of her face. Halia felt warm and bubbly inside. It was definitely different to how she felt around Sean. She looked at Jackson and he melted her heart. These last two days in the lab felt like a honeymoon. They lived together, they ate together, they even slept in the same bed together. It was a short amount of time, but she felt so comfortable with him. She knew at that moment that her feelings were definitely real. She was certain of it.
Behind Jackson, Halia watched as Sean ran up the stairs. She quickly hugged Jackson tightly. "Thank you," she said.
Jackson chuckled, "For what?"
"For being so honest with me."
Halia felt bad for hiding so many things from Jackson. She decided, if she successfully prevented him from going to the deal with Remy, she was going to reveal everything to him. But she had no idea that Jackson had his own secrets and already knew everything about her.
He knew her real identity...
...he knew she had been trying to distract him from making the bomb...
...and he even knew that Sean was down in the lab with them...
He was smart and meticulous, that's how he survived in the underworld for so many years, so he noticed a while ago that the closet was slightly open and there appeared to be a person inside. He also heard Halia talking to someone when he was in the bathroom and he also heard some strange noises when she went to get the mop. But, who was this man?
As Halia hugged him, he heard the faint sound of music drifting in from the karaoke bar above. Someone had opened the secret door. It was only for a slight moment before it closed back up again, but he heard it clearly even though Halia was trying to distract him.
At that moment, Halia breathed a sigh of relief: Sean was gone...
But, Jackson was beginning to wonder whether this woman truly liked him, or whether everything was just an act...
...
Sean quickly returned to the room where Max and Cleo were waiting for him. When he entered the room, there was an awkward silence.
Cleo's expression immediately lit up as though she had seen her savior. "Are you OK? You were gone for a while," she asked.
Sean quickly grabbed his stomach, "I was a little unwell, but I'm better now."
Cleo immediately shuffled aside and made space for Sean. Max sighed when he saw this. He had noticed that Cleo was acting differently around him since earlier. Was it because of Sean? Or was it because of his involvement with the gangs?
"I'll go heat up your noodles again," Max offered as he stepped out of the room.
As soon as Max left, Cleo turned to Sean and said, "Have you ever been involved with gangsters before, Sean?"
Sean looked at the uncomfortable expression on the woman's face, "Yes, I've met many gangsters before."
Cleo looked at him in surprise, "Do you think I should keep my distance from Max?"
Sean sighed. He didn't know what to say...
