Hell's Emissary - The Legendary Tamer

My skin bears reminders of yesterday. They are roadside markers of my trips and falls, remnants I intend to burn to ashes, place in an urn and bury somewhere. People tell me to move on. Build a bridge. Get over it. When you clench your teeth and forge ahead you convince yourself the mind can be a clean slate untainted by dark colors of past trauma. You pretend that your skies will always be clear. A palette of gold and red, sunrise and sunset. Yet in sunshine a dark shadow lingers behind us every step. Our shadow wilfully follows, keeps pace with every step. I unclenched my teeth, ran my fingers along my scars. They whispered to me. I listened. I held hands with my shadow, now we walk together. Some scars never heal but how else could I know the way forward?.. So, I claim this body, this mind, this life as my own. And while I wish to share this life in kindness, compassion and empathy with others, I will not hesitate to defend when threatened. ... "...and when you wake in the morning finding that you still lie in hell, lick your lips, spit on the flames, and walk on through the fire."

The Royal Flatulist

The serpent looked through the rotating lance and our eyes met. Looking closely, I couldn't decipher the meaning of whatever was going in its mind.

A look of recognition flashed across its eyes and it charged straight again but this time, it deviated slightly from the lance and advanced with its incredible speed.

At that time, my heart threatened to just fall out of my chest as it continued to pound in my ribcage with a force to make my eyes pop out with just its beats.

This was a problem as I didn't think that its intelligence would also be of something to be commended about.

I didn't lose focus that much as I commanded the lance to attack it again from the side and this time, the results were satisfying as the large serpent's body rolled a few times after being hit at point-blank.

A much more compelling shockwave erupted showering the arena with a gust of sand but even after the spectators were filled with anger non could just stand up and voice their dissatisfaction.

{I advise that we separate so that it will have a hard time choosing its target.} The dog advised and charged straight for the serpent leaving behind large paw prints on the sands.

The ground shook as it advanced making me feel like this wasn't a place for someone like me to be at the moment, but I couldn't just run as it was my fate to die in this arena.

The lance continued to rain in attacks one after the other even when the serpent was still rolling from the first unprecedented attack.

With every strike, sparks of fire shot out and the sounds of metallic weapons rung out with every swing of the lance. One could almost say that a blacksmith was forging out war weapons in the arena which was impossible.

Or the fact that a battle of high attack power was taking place.

Upon hearing the sounds, the others citizens who didn't get the chance to enter as the stadium was currently full were filled with envy as they wished to have been present to witness such a marvelous display of fighting skills.

If they just knew how the people inside regretted their decision today, they wouldn't wish for whatever that they were wishing for now.

In just a few large strides, the dog had already reached the side of the serpent as it just threw one of its massive paws in an attempt to slap its opponent.

What shocked me the most was the fact that these enormous creatures were so fast making me seem so insignificant in their eyes.

The serpent that was still accepting the fact of continuously being swatted by just a mere lance, was caught off guard when a massive paw landed across its head making it sway to the other side.

Slap!

Hhhiiiiiisssss!

After the slap landed perfectly, a high-pitched hissing sound reverberated across the whole stadium in an instant. Everyone tensed to the bone except for the few knights and Heaven who were just watching unfazed by the situation.

Even the continuous sounds of metallic clicking were drawn out in that hissing sound.

I subconsciously stopped commanding the lance and it took that faction of time to steady itself before it delivered its counterattack.

At that time, I had run over to the far side of the arena and I stopped to watch as I saw the tail hitting Cerberus with a force that tossed him away before it landed on the metallic restraints and even destroying them in the process.

Boom!

The lower part of the stadium caved in making the whole stadium shake in the process.

Everything was magnificent but no one could cheer out loud in fear of being the serpent's morning meal.

I looked at Cerberus who was now unmoving as it laid down with its eyes closed and trails of blood dripping from various parts of its body. I guess that it was dead and I knew that I would be next in line.

At this point, I couldn't face off a beast that I wouldn't emerge victorious in the end, and the fact that I had a way out, I smiled as an escape plan drafted itself in my mind.

With a thought, the lance charged in my direction but at the next second, the serpent turned and looked in my direction.

Oh, Shit!

I cursed as I knew that it probably knows my intentions for it to suddenly look at someone as insignificant as I am.

Click!

In the next instance, it opened its mouth wide open before closing it with a force that when its fangs met each other a bone shuttering sound was heard. In my opinion, it had declared that I was to be soon its food and that thought made me wish that I could have just died from the harsh treatment that I have received since I was caught in that forest.

Then all of a sudden, it charged at a speed just as the one the lance was traveling in.

I knew for a fact that it was faster than the lance and I knew it was out working itself just to prove that it was mighty in every aspect. It was trying to show dominance!

The thought hit me harder as the serpent stood in front of me in just a few seconds at the same time as the lance landed softly in my palm.

I was in a daze as I gazed at the massive serpent's eyes. I was lucky enough to have emptied my bladder just a while ago or else I would have pissed myself at this moment.

It gazed back as if daring me to just make a single move but I knew better and stood still.

I knew that whatever I did, the outcome would be the same with me being dead. Though a quick death would be much appreciated, I just wanted to buy enough time so that I would be contented to have lived a bit longer.

With just slow movements, it opened its mouth threatening to swallow me in just a single bite.

As I looked inside its mouth, a devastating hot breath washed over me and I couldn't help but feel my skin irritate from that action. Steam was continuously being emitted and I knew that whatever lands itself inside the mouth, it was unlucky enough as if it wouldn't be ripped apart by the massive intertwined fangs, then they would just melt from the intense heat in the mouth.

Looking at its mouth, a thought emerged as saw a silver thread of hope in the inescapable situation that I was in.

But I think that I had a guardian angel watching over me as at that time, someone farted from the spectators who were silently watching the unfolding events one after another.

Burp!

Bburrrpp!

The burp wasn't that loud to be heard across the whole stadium but the fact that everything was so quiet and the spasmodic force behind it amplified the sound to a higher degree that everyone turned their heads in that direction.

I wanted to laugh out loud but given my own circumstance, I wore a serious face.

Just as everyone looked in the direction where the sound came from, the serpent also turned its head to observe the situation.

"Why did you do that now of all the time?" A voice was heard all across the stadium and I turned my head to see who just saved my skin?

On my line of sight, I saw the King to be reprimanding someone who was a few seats away from him.

Realization dawned on me as I knew just who was unlucky enough to attract the serpent's attention.

Hhhiiiiiisssss!

The scolding died just as the hissing sound from the serpent escaped its mouth. The King looked forward only to be met with a gaze so frightening that he cursed himself for accepting such a beast from a friend years ago when it was still the size of one foot.

Regret clouded his judgment as he swore that if he had just a glimpse of how the small fish would have developed to become something magnificent and frightening as what he was just looking at. He would have sent it to the kitchen and have it cooked before tasting it.

The King wasn't in the least scared by it but the fact that his whole family was with him, was what made him sweat profusely.

Shifting my gaze to a few meters away from the King, a bulging man was the one that caused all the commotion.

From what he was wearing to the multicolored paints that he smeared himself with, the guy just looked like a clown.

And I thought that maybe he worked for the King in some way as no noble would wear something as laughable as what the man was wearing. But if the first one was a mistake, then the following ones were due to absolute fear of the creature.

Just as he made contact with the serpent's eyes, a door was opened as the clown just released everything that was in his arsenal. It was a moment that should be either bring everyone great laughter or despise but at the moment, no one dared to open their mouths or cover their noses.

Then the serpent just gave chase, and I saw a commotion that I haven't seen in my life.
