After the exams, there was still one week before the summer vacation began.
There was no homework and no classes this week. It was a time for the students to say goodbye, especially for the seventh graders, as it was uncertain whether they would see each other again in the future.
The Quidditch finals were also held this week, and Slytherin won in the end.
The members of the Ravenclaw Quidditch team did not care much. After all, they hadn't won the Quidditch championship for many years, so it was just one more year of the same.
Ravenclaw Academy had the fewest Quidditch fans, which made it hard to gather enough players. As a result, girls made up half of the team.
You couldn't expect the girls of Ravenclaw to compete against the strong players from the other three houses for the ball.
Soon, the day for announcing the results arrived, and most of the Hogwarts students crowded at the front of the hall.
There were seven huge parchment notices, one for each grade, with all the students' results recorded on them. (The original book says that Hermoine was the first in her first year, so there must be a ranking list. Otherwise, how would the students know where they stood? At least Slytherin would never tell Gryffindor their grades.)
After the summer vacation began, the school owl would send the grades to each student's home, which made countless students anxious.
Ethan, along with Cassandra and Hermione, didn't push through the crowd. They knew there was plenty of time, and checking the grades early or late wouldn't change the outcome.
"I got a P in Transfiguration, which is terrible."
"Same, but in Potions."
"I failed both Transfiguration and Potions."
Several Hufflepuff students squeezed out of the crowd, looking dejected.
"Why did this happen? Mom will kill me!"
"It's okay, I also failed some subjects."
A voice of grief came from the crowd. Ethan recognized it as Ronald's. Only Harry could comfort him.
This instantly caught Ethan's attention. He was quite interested in Ronald's exam results, especially in Charms.
At this moment, the crowd had thinned out, so Ethan walked over with his girlfriends.
Ronald:
Potions: D
Herbology: P
Charms: T
Transfiguration: A
Defense Against the Dark Arts: A
History of Magic: A
Flying: A
Astronomy: P
No wonder Ronald was so upset. He took eight courses, failed four, barely passed four, and his Charms grade was the worst.
But who graded the Defense Against the Dark Arts exam?
Quirrell had submitted it right after the exam, so the results were not released in time.
Harry did much better than Ronald and was indeed a talented student.
Potions: A
Herbology: A
Charms: E
Transfiguration: A
Defense Against the Dark Arts: E
History of Magic: A
Flying: A
Astronomy: P
Ronald and Harry had just been discharged from the hospital. Harry had nothing to say; he had been in a coma for three days before waking up.
Ronald wasn't much better off. He had been found lying at the wizard chess level for a day and a night. In the dark and damp underground space, with a broken leg, Ronald had cried out in desperation but received no response. Ethan could imagine his mental state at that time.
When they finally carried him out, he was already unconscious and nearly died.
The main issue was that Harry was in a coma, so no one knew where Ronald had gone, and no one looked for him.
Dumbledore took Harry back to the infirmary and then left the school after a brief conversation with Ethan.
After all, the letter from the Ministry of Magic that day was real.
He had just delayed his departure, giving Voldemort the illusion that he had left the school and gone to the Ministry of Magic.
After dealing with Voldemort's affairs, he had to go to the Ministry of Magic again.
Whether intentional or not, Ronald had been forgotten.
It was Neville who noticed that Ronald hadn't returned all night and informed Professor McGonagall.
In a way, Neville saved Ronald's life.
After seeing their grades, Ethan looked directly at the top of the list.
He was confident.
As expected, Ethan's name was at the top, followed by Cassandra and Hermione.
Except for Hermoine, both Ethan and Cassandra received O's in all their subjects.
There was a difference between levels, and putting himself at the top meant that the professors considered him the best.
However, these professors probably didn't know that Ethan's astronomy answers were based on Cassandra's.
And then there were Hermione's grades.
Potions: O
Herbology: O
Charms: O
Transfiguration: O
Defense Against the Dark Arts: E
History of Magic: O
Flying: A
Astronomy: O
She just barely passed the flying class. She didn't have much talent for flying and didn't like Quidditch. Every flying class gave her a headache.
The results in Defense Against the Dark Arts were unexpected, but Ethan didn't know the grading criteria. If it was up to Quirrell, all practical exercises would have been graded as O.
"Tsk!"
After reading the results, Cassandra gave Hermoine a provocative look.
She knew Hermoine had feelings for Ethan, which made Cassandra very unhappy, so she targeted her from time to time.
In addition, since they were in the same grade, Cassandra wanted to completely surpass Hermione.
Hermione, who noticed Cassandra's gaze, instantly bristled.
"Cassandra, don't be so smug. There won't be a flying class next year. I'll catch up in Defense Against the Dark Arts."
"Really? " Cassandra asked with a smug smile
"R..."
Hermoine stomped her feet in frustration, pouting.
Both of them received O's in Charms, but Cassandra was ahead of her. She was right—even if Hermoine got all O's, she would still be ranked behind Cassandra.
In the evening, all the students of Hogwarts gathered in the Great Hall. Today was the day to announce the winner of the House Cup.
The hall was decorated with blue and bronze, representing Ravenclaw. On the wall behind the guest of honor, there was a huge banner featuring the Ravenclaw eagle.
At the long table belonging to Ravenclaw, everyone was very excited.
Especially the seventh-year graduates. Ethan saw several seniors hugging each other and crying.
Seven years! Do you know how these seven years have passed?
Slytherin had won the House Cup for six consecutive years, while Ravenclaw's House Cup was only a legend.
Now, before graduation, they had finally won it.
In fact, the reason Ravenclaw was able to win the House Cup this year was mainly due to Ethan's efforts—injuring the enemy by 250 points while only losing 50.
Although Snape later deducted points like crazy, Ravenclaw was caught the least, so there wasn't much reason to deduct points without a valid excuse.
In the original story, Slytherin was initially in the lead, but Dumbledore awarded Gryffindor a huge number of points, which led to the House Cup changing hands.
But now, unless Dumbledore lost his mind and awarded Harry and Ronald 150 points each, Gryffindor wouldn't be able to win the championship—thanks to Professor Snape.
Dumbledore walked in from the side door, and the noise in the hall gradually subsided.
"Another year has passed!" Dumbledore said happily. "Before you enjoy these delicious dishes, I must ask you to listen to an old man's speech.
"Now, we must first hold the award ceremony for the House Cup. The final scores for each house are as follows."
"Fourth place: Gryffindor, with 174 points!"
"Third place: Hufflepuff, with 281 points!"
"Second place: Slytherin, with 327 points!"
"First place: Ravenclaw, with 396 points!"
Ravenclaw's table erupted in thunderous cheers, and the other houses also responded with applause.
Ethan looked especially at Hermione. Her eyes were red. No matter how much she added points, she couldn't make up for the deductions.
And Professor McGonagall—her face was ashen. Gryffindor's score was less than 200, which set a new historical low. She had thought that the Weasley twins brought Gryffindor to a low point, but this year, Harry and Ronald were no better. Gryffindor's "dragon and phoenix" came in pairs—either they didn't come or they came together.
It could be said that the scores of all four houses this year were well below the normal level. Except for Gryffindor, the other three houses had at least 50 to 100 fewer points.
"Yes, Ravenclaw's performance was excellent." Dumbledore paused for a moment and then said, "However, several recent events must also be taken into account."
The young wizards were already fixed on Dumbledore, sensing a change coming.
Ravenclaw's table grew silent. There hadn't been any changes in previous years!
Was it easy for them to win the House Cup?
"First of all, Mr. Ronald Weasley!"
"He played the most exciting game of chess Hogwarts has seen in many years. I reward Gryffindor with 50 points for this."
Ronald's face flushed red, like a carrot dried by the sun.
The Gryffindor table cheered, and Percy proudly announced that this was his youngest brother who had successfully passed Professor McGonagall's self-made chessboard.
The other three tables sneered at this, and no one applauded.
When could you get house points for playing chess? And 50 points at that!
No matter how good your performance, you would only get 5 or 10 points. If you performed poorly, you would only get 1 or 2 points.
Even Snape had never awarded more than 10 points.
If you won a school-wide competition, that would be different. But passing Professor McGonagall's giant chessboard? Why not let the other houses try it? Maybe they could do it too!
Just adding points!
After Gryffindor calmed down, Dumbledore continued.
"And, Harry Potter!"
"He showed great bravery and courage, and I will reward Gryffindor with 50 points for this."
Gryffindor cheered again, while the other house tables remained silent.
"Finally!"
The Gryffindor students stared eagerly at Dumbledore.
"Ethan Adrian!"
"He faced danger with extraordinary wisdom and calmly dealt with it, avoiding losses to Hogwarts. I will reward Ravenclaw with 50 points!"
The young wizards of Ravenclaw let out a deafening cheer, relieved that Dumbledore hadn't skewed the results in Gryffindor's favor by adding a few hundred points.
In the end, even with the extra 100 points, Gryffindor remained at the bottom.
"This year's House Cup winner is Ravenclaw!"
Professor Flitwick was so excited that he stood directly on his chair and cheered for his students.
Ethan was surrounded by many little eagles, celebrating their triumph in this year's House Cup.
