Harbinger of Calamity

a Neet who has worked hard his entire life, who has experienced the vicissitudes of life, living much of his life in poverty, depression and drug addiction, at the end of his difficult road, dies of cancer at the age of 26. Having suffered his entire life trying to face the cruel reality of the world, always chasing higher pursuits and exploring ideas but his pursuit of truth only leads to his own collapse. In his last days instead of weeping, he laughs, he laughs at the absurdity of it all. It seemed as if fate had played the biggest joke on him, he had taken too seriously what had no value. What is life? a blink of an eye! as unreal as a dream, what a mysterious world, we are just born out of nowhere only to vanish later on. A profound sigh was uttered "If only I wasn't dealt such bad cards! I was made for the heights yet here I am crashed in the abyss of life."  Looking at the world he was soon to leave, he sighed "Humanity truly has fallen in this era, it has crashed from the heights of embodying divinity to succumbing to their animalistic selves becoming creatures of decadence, slaves to pleasure, lust and the lowly desires of the body. Truly my heart weeps for the tragedy of humanity, the industrial revolution, a slave society disguised as 'modern society', poisonous foods filled with chemicals, an entire network engineered to enslave minds called the internet, an absolute infestation of decadence and mediocrity in the very Human spirit that used to overpower all. All humanity is enslaved, what can't parents even teach? they are slaves themselves. Atleast in this life, I refused to be a slave, I was a free being, atleast in the later half of my life, I followed my own passions and lived my own life but in the end, sigh I failed! But oh well, who ever lived a perfect life in this world? as the darkness of death engulfs him, he fully accepts it and is gone. A pair of eye opened and an absolutely stunning sight appeared, he was transmigrated. For the first time in so long, he could see clearly without glasses or contacts, he could feel physically powerful instead of a sickly body and a destroyed pleasure system. He resolves that this time, this life, He would pursue his own freedom! He would never give up on himself and he will walk his own path to the very end. "That's right, I was wrong depending on sympathy. Cold, heartless, I won't forgive them, they can't be forgiven! That's right, it wasn't me who was wrong, it was the world that was wrong!" A descent towards Madness. A cruel world where no refuge can be found, countless obstacles obstructing one's path, mountains of corpses, an abyss of blood, a heart of darkness, a cruel fate to all living beings. No heart or soul, only an abyss of despair and a heart to ascend beyond. ... Mushroom minimen (3)

"You will leave tomorrow? shouldn't you stay here for a few days? why are you leaving so soon?" the will in his mind spoke.

"I'm going back to my birthplace, it seems there is something there that I need." Nameless revealed.

"I know what you're thinking but that still won't work in a single day, most of the energy has dissipated. Yes, there perhaps is still there a specific energy that only your body can absorb but still, you won't be able to absorb it just by itself, you would need another source of energy to fuel its absorption."

"What? what do I use then?"

"You will have to rely on beast cores or tree cores to fuel the process of absorption since that is the only widely available energy after the beast tide."

"I see, then I will stay here for a few days."

Nameless moved to the nearest mushroom miniman before picking him.

"Ahh, let me go you monster!"

"Tell your old man that I will stay be staying here for a few days."

"No! I won't allow a monster like you to deceive ancestor!"

"Ahh I wonder how mushroom minimen taste like, I heard they had a very unique taste." Nameless said as he opened his mouth.

"Ahh! No! I will tell him! I swear I will tell him so let me go!"

"If you don't, I will just eat you, don't forget that." Nameless said before he put him down and watched him escape towards the wall.

He had scared him so he would relate the information faster.

The wall that was slightly far away had hundreds of holes, the walls on the sides also had hundreds of holes from bottom to top, it seemed the mushroom minimen built their colony beyond these walls.

The walls were also bioluminiscent, small minerals at their surface shone with blueish and greenish light shone.

Mushroom minimen entered and left rapidly.

They looked way smaller to Nameless when he was in the Keiya transformation, now they appeared slightly bigger compared to his figure.

"Do the mushroom caps on their head allow them to photosynthesize energy from the bioluminescent light?"

"That's right, it is one of their survival mechanisms, even if they ran out of nutrition, they can still survive and live with photosynthesis alone, but for a proper diet, they need worms and plants. They can eat basically anything that moves or is a plant as long it fits in their mouths."

"I see."

Nameless thought for a bit before he turned to the new purple robe that he was adorned with, it looked very realistic as if it was normal clothing, it also allowed him great comfort.

"Can you make the robe black? I don't like this purple colour."

"I will try."

Nameless watched as his clothing slowly turned purpleish black.

"Well done, it looks great."

"I heard you will be staying for a few days." the mushroom minimen appeared and said while caressing his beard.

"I need some beast cores." he responded.

"I see, I can go with you if you want, I might not look like it but I can easily defeat rank 4 beasts, I can even hold a rank 5 beasts for a few breaths although I can only help you in the periphary of this cave, it will also help prevent any future beasts from intruding."

He continued : "Sigh, age is really catching up with me. in my youth, even rank 5 beasts were no match for me but I will soon be in my nineties, my strength has already began decreasing rapidly." he sighed while caressing his beard.

"You are approaching your nineties?! you can live that long?" Nameless spoke bewildered.

"Why are you so suprised human? we, variant humans can live as much as human beings meaning a good a hundred years."

'That's even more impressive than I thought. In my previous world, even though the lifespan was nearly 70 years in developed countries, the body would start aging after one's thirties becoming weaker and weaker as the body aged, becoming rusty, heavy and prone to all sorts of illnesses further reducing the quality of life and lifespan.'

"So you are near your nineties, how are you gonna survive then? do you have no choice but to die?" Nameless asked.

"Sigh, I will have to pass the lifespan tribulation or obtain a lifespan anima, if I fail I can only attempt a holy pilgrimage to the Holy tree, otherwise I would just die." the old miniman spoke.

"Lifespan tribulation? Lifespan anima? Holy tree? What do you mean?" Nameless was bewildered.

"Grandpa, the banquet is ready!" a purple mushroom minimen female appeared calling for the old minimen.

"Oh I see, I'm coming. I'm sorry young man, I will have to join my granddaughter. I will explain everything you want to know later." the old minimen then turned and left.
