In the perilous world you find yourself in, it is imperative to acquire skills in martial arts or magic. This realm is fraught with danger, not only from the inhabitants but also the various fiends and monsters that roam its lands. Before delving into the realm of creatures, let us first emphasize the significance of training for self-defense. While cities may offer relative safety, it would be unwise to solely rely on them, especially in the event of an invasion. When chaos ensues, survival often becomes a personal responsibility, and you must be prepared for such eventualities.
Self-defense techniques vary among individuals, with each person developing their own preferred method of combat. As for myself, I have honed my skills in a combination of dagger combat and the manipulation of shadow magic (distinct from dark magic). This unique blend allows me to avoid confrontations altogether and escape precarious situations, such as evading pursuit when accused of a potential misdeed. The magical arts are further classified within the elemental system, which includes Fire, Water, Earth, Air, as well as the ethereal forces of Luminous and Shadow. While it may be obvious, fire magic specializes in destruction, water magic offers versatility, earth magic focuses on defense, and air magic enhances agility. Luminous and shadow magic, being more elusive in nature, primarily create illusions of light and darkness, respectively. Sub-categories exist within these branches, such as divinity as a facet of the path of luminous magic, or necromancy as a part of the path of shadow magic.
Every individual possesses an inherent affinity for each element in the system, yet it is advisable to concentrate on a single element that resonates with you and suits your abilities. Regrettably, teaching the intricate art of mana manipulation through written guidance is a challenge. It is recommended to seek out a knowledgeable teacher to guide you in harnessing the mana within your body. Typically, the adventurers' guild will have skilled practitioners who can assist in this regard. That is how I initially learned to utilize magic when I first arrived in this world.
Turning our attention to weaponry, it is essential to find a dedicated mentor to truly master the weapon of your choice. A wide array of armaments exists, ranging from conventional spears, swords, and daggers to more unorthodox options like scythes and chains. I strongly advise against delving into the realm of unconventional weapons until you have established a solid foundation with the more traditional ones. It is crucial to prevent unnecessary risks that may lead to your untimely demise. Daggers, for example, proved to be the ideal choice for me, as they are compact and easily carried, providing a means of defense in the face of surprise attacks.
