His words carried a sense almost of "the more one tries to hide, the more one reveals," and Amanda Smith gave him a glance, seemingly surprised that Samuel Johnson would discuss such gossip with her.
The atmosphere turned somewhat awkward, and Amanda smiled with a tinge of embarrassment. She had always had quite a few pursuers, but when it came to discussing it openly, she felt a bit shy.
"I've found someone I like," she said with a light smile.
Samuel Johnson's calm expression was suddenly rippled by her words. He slightly pinched his fingers and feigned nonchalance as he replied, "Oh? Really? He doesn't like you?"
Amanda's smile turned bitter-sweet; she didn't know how to respond to him.
Thankfully, Joy Parker returned, single-handedly carrying plates piled high with food, which seemed to include almost all the remaining offerings from the buffet. In the blink of an eye, the small table in front of Amanda was stacked with several layers of dishes.
