Dear ̷D̷i̷a̷r̷y̷ Bartha,

Today dad gifted me a diary, quite an odd gift for a fourteen-year-old boy I think, after all, why would I ever write? But here I am, writing. Anyway enough of this chit chat, I want my diary to be a grand adventure to anyone who finds it. I thought about its name and I couldn't find any, don't blame me it's a tough process, first, you have to think of origins, potential meanings it might have etc. I don't want my grand adventure to have some cheesy name like chuggu-muggu. But then again I don't want it to be something edgy, I want it to be cool. Well, it's pointless anyway, not like my life will have anything interesting to write about.

Anyway since I'm doing this I want my fans to have context, it would be a disaster to think otherwise. Yes, I shall be an author and this diary would be my first work, the best of the best. So for now I'll just call it "Diary".

It was the 17th of Jan, 2001, City Z when my mom, Fanai Vones gave birth to me, that's all I know about her, quite frankly. My life took hers. My dad, Hawkinson Vones raised me and my elder sister alone. He is a saint. Even when everyone was advising him to marry another woman for our sake, he refused, he refused to marry another woman. He has given his best to make sure we never feel her absence. I really love my old man, I think my sister feels the same too.

My sister, Bartha Vone, she's my friend; my best friend; my only friend. She knows me top to bottom, I share everything with her and she listens. I don't want anyone else to know my secrets. It is not that I don't want friends, I want them but all of 'em I used to have were hollow backstabbing snakes. I don't wish to be tricked again. My sister says I have a logical flaw in my ideology but I don't see one. Regardless, she always makes sure to give me her time. Frankly, she's the best. So that's my family, me, Bartha and Dad. Honestly, I don't want it to ever change. I live a happy life at least what appears happy to a fourteen-year-old.

Currently, we live in City A, we came here four years back after grandma passed away. I miss her. She used to bake me cakes every weekend and would tell me stories. Those were the best of times. After she passed, Dad got a transfer, he has been busy since then. Bartha doesn't know any stories and is most of the time busy in her studies, she has entrance this year after all. I don't want to disturb her anymore.

At school, well it's hell, I know no one, I rarely talk and am extremely clumsy though recently there is a girl, Vanessa who gives me company during lunch. She's pretty, I guess I have a crush on her or may that's just the hormones. Other than her, everyone is just a straight-up spawn of devils, they are super mean and bully me. The teachers are of no help either, they rarely help and when they do it often ends with my dad coming to the school. Props to the old man for believing me I wonder how I would end up if it weren't for him. I have requested him to change schools, he says that he'll surely figure something out. This was last week. I wonder when I would be relieved from this hell.

I guess I'll just keep the first entry to this only. I wonder when I'll write next, till then

Good Night ̷D̷i̷a̷r̷y̷ Bartha.

Caft closed the dairy. His brow squeezed together in confusion.

'It seems the Department was right. This whole thing is a mess, I can't seem to make sense of anything. Perhaps it'll require a lot more time than I had anticipated. Vanessa, maybe that's the girl in the car. If that's the case maybe its a case of drunk driving After all young brats are carless motherfuckers'

Caft's train of thought was interrupted by the sudden ring of the telephone.

"Yes? This is Detective Caft." he said.

"Detective Caft, it's me, Inspector Loyd, thank god you answered. We've been trying to reach you for hours, why weren't you answering?" the inspector said in a hasty voice.

"You were? I'm sorry officer it appears I was lost in my investigation, so tell me, why were you calling?" asked Caft in a calm voice.

"We have identified the dead girl, she's Maria Bathems!" he said.

"What?" Caft expressed his surprise.

"Yes, she's Maria Bathems, nineteen years old, a high school student at the Markholmes High School." the inspector continued.
