The capital city [7]

And so the days passed. Training, eating, caring for my sister, training, eating, going to sleep. I was getting more and more proficient in using mana and have also gotten as far to use fire magic too.

The time passed relatively quick. In the end, it was so fast that I was already 10 years old now. "Only 4 more years then I am the age I was before I died.", I thought.

Evie came into my room. "Evie want to play with brother!", she told me. She was an adorable child. Long brown hair, green eyes, she looked a lot like my mother. "Brother will play with you, Evie.", I told her. She had a beautiful smile that made one feel warm and happy too. "What do you want to play, Evie?", I asked her. "Hide and seek!", she answered. "Okay, you hide first!", I told her and I started couting. "Ready or not here I come!", I shouted.

I walked through the house. Evie wasn't great at hiding. Not at all, I had found her in the first 5 minutes but I kept playing and made her think she was good at hiding, after about 20 minutes I found her.

"Look, Evie, brother has to go now. Next time I come back you will already be grown up.", I said while crouching down on her level. It hurt leaving my sibling but the carriage that brought me to the capital was already ready. "Why brother has to go?", Evie asked. "Brother will attend a really nice school. I will see you soon.", I answered her and patted her head.

At the door my parents were already waiting, I gave them both a big hug. "Watch over Evie while I'm not there, will you?", I asked. They both nodded with tears in their eyes. I also started to cry a little as I ran to the carriage and got into it. The driver asked if I was ready, I said a quick "Yes." and he took off to the capital.

After a ride that felt like 5 hours I had finnaly arrived in the capital city. Our local city was nothing compared to it. Big buildings, stores and everything you could ever imagine. It seemed so great at first but it was just like in my old world. The richer the city gets, the larger the gap between poor and rich.

I had a list of things I had to do. I first had to get my uniform so I went to the store it was handed out at, gave them my student card and they handed me it. I was always a bit socially insecure so not talking much is completely fine with me. As I exited the store the owner just said a quick "See you soon!". He also looked like a sweet old man.

I walked through road but kinda got lost. Like really lost. I was supposed to end up at the academy but it seemed like I ended up in the slums. I turned around and went over the giant city square. I looked around and saw a girl, she was about my age. A few drunken men that had the uniform of the students of the academy were with her and seemed to hit on her.

The hero I am I walked down the road. "Excuse me. Is she fine with that?", I asked them. The girl quickly screamed "NOO! LET ME GO! LET GO OF ME!". "You heard her. Let her go.", I told them. One guy turned around and cracked his knuckles and pinned me against the wall. "Can't you see these uniforms? Were the elite of the elite. The best of the best. You couldn't even do anything if you tried.", he said to me while spitting on me. I am a man that could take a lot. I had gone through bullying in my past life. "Watch your tone. If you're the "best of the best" then why the fuck are you annoying this girl?", I asked him. "Look at her. She's fucking hot!", he answered. "So what? What is your name.", I asked him. "Ruphelius the third.", he scoffed. "I'm going to give you all one chance. Fuck off and go. I don't want to cause trouble the first day I'm here.", I said with a disgusting look. Now his friends also turned around and faced me. They all laughed at me. "Very well. But don't say I didn't warn you.", I told them. I am against violence, really. If there's one thing I hate it's violence. They all started casting spells but it didn't matter to me.

"A shadow spell would be more efficient here... I don't want to burn down the whole houses around me.", I thought. "Blades of shadow, heed my call, seek and strike down my foes.", I chanted. A blade of shadow shot out of my own shadow behind me for each of the 5 attackers. It hit them all in non-lethal spots like the shoulder. After they hit them they came back behind me.

"Y-YOU WILL RE-REGRET THIS!", the leader of the five said while running away. "Lucky fools.", I muttered while walking to the girl. "Hey, you okay?", I asked her. "Y-yeah... I-I think so. Thank you.", she answered. "No worries at all. I suppose after today you will also attend the magic academy?", I questioned her. She replied by nodding and a simple "Yeah.". I held out my hand towards her. "My name is Jin Smith. I am a dual-mage. I can control fire and shadow." "SHADOW?", she screamed out. "I know it's rare. Let's be friends, alright? What is your name?", I looked at her while smiling. "Emilia... Emilia Nightshade. And yes, let's be friends."

I helped her up. We walked to our dorm rooms. Turns out we actually share one. Since it was quite late, I just made some food and then talked to her a bit about our interests. She's a really nice person. It was my first time sleeping not in my bed. But it was also a bit nice. Tomorrow was the entrance ceremony so I would have to wake up quite early.
