After the joyous gathering concluded, everyone returned to their respective homes.
Jiang Ning, however, had already made plans with Yanfei for the following morning to head into the wilderness for an investigation.
His role? A reliable bodyguard.
Meanwhile, Ganyu returned home, relieved after seeing both Jiang Ning and Shenhe retreat to their rooms and turn off the lights.
Only then did she hurriedly make her way to her own residence.
Upon arriving, Ganyu locked the door and carefully removed her clothes and the black tights she'd worn all day. From her personal Slime assistant, she retrieved two talismans.
What followed was a peculiar scene. With a glass bottle in each hand, Ganyu muttered a chant, and water-like streams began to flow from the talismans, filling the containers. Her room soon became filled with the sweet, creamy scent of milk.
She stared at the bottles in a daze, her mind blank.
Earlier, she had read through a collection of adeptal techniques to find a solution for her… unique issue.
In the end, she modified a talisman meant for storing drinking water during outdoor expeditions. The results, however, were—ahem—unexpected.
Realizing the cool night air against her skin, Ganyu's cheeks flushed as she hastily prepared new talismans, slipped into a nightgown, and tucked herself under her blanket to sleep.
However, no matter how much she tossed and turned, sleep wouldn't come. Whenever she closed her eyes, images of Jiang Ning's smile kept appearing in her mind.
"What should I do? There's no guidance for this situation in the adeptal texts… How am I supposed to get through this? It's too inconvenient…" Ganyu muttered, despairing.
But then, an idea struck her. Her face grew even redder as she bit her lip, reached into her Vision, and pulled out a piece of clothing. Her breathing grew shallow, and her movements tentative…
---
The next morning, Jiang Ning woke up to find Ganyu's room still sealed shut. Puzzled, he knocked lightly on her door but received no response.
"Did Senior Sister oversleep again?" he mused.
This wasn't the first time he'd had to wake her up—Ganyu occasionally lost track of time and needed a nudge to avoid being late for work.
Pushing open the door, Jiang Ning entered her room. Inside, a small mound of blankets curled up on the bed.
"Senior Sister still loves sleeping all curled up, huh…" Jiang Ning muttered to himself.
"Senior Sister, wake up. It's Monday—you've got work!" he teased, his tone both soft and mischievous.
The familiar scent of glaze lilies filled the room, but there was an added note of sweetness today, one that Jiang Ning couldn't quite place.
Did she soak in milk last night? he wondered.
The thought amused him—such a self-care habit seemed entirely in line with Ganyu's personality.
Ganyu stirred, her soft eyes fluttering open like spring rain on blossoming flowers. Her voice was groggy as she murmured, "Little… Junior Brother?"
Still half-asleep, Ganyu mistook him for part of a dream.
Without thinking, she extended her arms and hugged him tightly.
"Senior Sister…" Jiang Ning froze briefly but soon relaxed, gently patting her back like comforting a child.
With his other hand, he lightly stroked her qilin horns.
"Time to get up, Senior Sister," he said softly.
Ganyu leaned into his touch, her eyes closing again as if savoring the moment.
But then her consciousness snapped back to reality. Her eyes shot open, clear and wide, as the full weight of the situation hit her.
Her cheeks flared crimson, a blush spreading across her snow-white skin like the dawn.
"I—You—Get out!" she stammered, burying her face in her hands.
Smiling mischievously, Jiang Ning gave her horns one last playful rub before stepping back.
"Alright, I'm leaving. But you'd better hurry—didn't you say you had work to do this morning?"
With that, he left the room, closing the door behind him.
Ganyu remained on the bed, frozen in embarrassment.
It took her several long minutes to collect herself before she jumped up, realizing the time.
"Late! I'm going to be late!"
Flustered, she rushed through her morning routine, dressed, and dashed out of the house toward Yuehai Pavilion, all while struggling to suppress her lingering embarrassment.
---
After Ganyu left, Jiang Ning stayed behind to tidy her room.
He also placed the breakfast he'd bought earlier in the dining area.
Typically, if Shenhe spent the night, she would prepare a simple meal—plain noodles, porridge, or light side dishes.
But since this morning was different, Jiang Ning had gone out to buy food for everyone, even bringing an extra portion for Shenhe.
As Ganyu hurried off without breakfast, Jiang Ning didn't stop her. Instead, he muttered, "Ah, I forgot to buy an extra soy milk…"
Checking the bag, he realized there was only one bottle. With no intention of going back out, he looked around the kitchen for an alternative.
Eventually, he spotted a glass bottle that seemed to contain milk.
"It seems fresh enough…" he said, sniffing the bottle. "Hmm, smells really good. This must be premium milk."
Thinking nothing of it, Jiang Ning poured himself a cup and enjoyed it alongside a steamed bun.
Strangely, after finishing the milk, he felt an unusual warmth spreading through his body, revitalizing him in a way that was reminiscent of absorbing elemental energy or the remnants of a defeated god.
"Where did Senior Sister get this? Did she mix it with some kind of adeptal herb?" Jiang Ning wondered.
Without knowledge to him, this "premium milk" was the result of Ganyu's late-night experiment.
In her exhausted state, she had absentmindedly placed the bottles in the kitchen cupboard, completely forgetting their origins.
As he cleaned up, Jiang Ning suddenly remembered his plans with Yanfei.
After leaving a note for Shenhe about breakfast, he headed toward Liyue Harbor's gates to meet Yanfei.
---
Arriving at Yuehai Pavilion, Ganyu finally felt the strange warmth lingering from the morning's events fade away.
She couldn't help but grumble to herself, "I've told him before that my horns aren't something to be touched casually…"
After shaking off her lingering embarrassment, Ganyu set to work.
With her unparalleled efficiency, she quickly sorted through the tangled web of tasks, transforming what had been a chaotic mess into a clear and organized plan.
Once everything was delegated and scheduled, Ganyu made her way to the Jade Chamber.
"Miss Ningguang, I've returned. I must apologize for the trouble caused by the recent trip to Mondstadt," Ganyu said, bowing slightly.
Recalling the looks of relief on Ningguang's secretaries' faces after surviving the workload during Ganyu's absence, Ganyu had even prepared small gifts to send to their homes as an apology.
Ningguang, however, waved off her concerns. "There's no need to feel bad, Ganyu. The real question is—how is Jiang Ning? Is he unharmed?"
"Fortunately, I arrived in time, and he's fine," Ganyu replied. "Speaking of which, about the business in Mondstadt…"
She began meticulously reporting the details of her findings, occasionally sharing her insights. Ningguang listened closely, her brows furrowing in thought.
"Let's proceed as you've suggested. I don't see any adjustments needed. As always, you're thorough and reliable—exactly what I expect from you, Ganyu," Ningguang praised.
Years of service as a secretary to the Qixing had made Ganyu an invaluable asset.
"Miss Ningguang, you flatter me. By the way, where is Keqing?" Ganyu asked.
"She's currently at the Chasm," Ningguang explained. "There have been some unusual movements in the area. It's also an opportunity for her to lay low while certain political matters settle."
"Is this still about the Archon's situation? It feels more like an excuse for others to meddle with the selection of the Qixing," Ganyu observed.
"Likely so. One of the Fatui Harbingers, Pantalone, appears to be testing the waters. But it's nothing to worry about—a minor skirmish at best,"
Ningguang said calmly.
"However, I'm surprised to see you asking about Keqing. I recall you had… differing opinions about her after the Rite of Descension."
Ganyu's relationship with Keqing had been strained, with Ganyu addressing her as "Yuheng Star" instead of her name. Now, the change in tone caught Ningguang's attention.
"Work is work. Personal feelings don't matter," Ganyu replied evenly.
Privately, Ganyu had come to terms with her past grievances through her conversations with Zhongli.
Learning of the Geo Archon's long-term plans, she understood that Jiang Ning's future role might place him alongside Keqing as one of her closest allies.
Keeping the peace was essential.
Ningguang, sensing Ganyu's reluctance to elaborate, didn't press the matter and shifted to other topics:
"Speaking of which, there's some news from Inazuma…"
----
"Senior Sister Yanfei, have you been waiting long? I'm sorry for the delay," Jiang Ning said as he hurried to meet her at Liyue Harbor's gate.
"It's fine, I only just arrived," Yanfei replied with a smile.
"Alright then, let's head out!" Jiang Ning said enthusiastically as the two began their journey.
As they walked, Yanfei explained the situation: "It's a simple case, really. One of my clients had their home broken into."
"Shouldn't this be reported to the Millelith? Why does it need you, a legal expert, to get involved?" Jiang Ning asked, puzzled.
"Well, the stolen goods include key evidence for an upcoming court case. They're crucial, and I can't afford to wait around. That's why I decided to handle this personally," Yanfei explained.
"Hmm, that makes sense," Jiang Ning nodded thoughtfully.
"Also, while I'm a half-adeptus, my combat skills are… less than stellar. For safety's sake, I called you in to help," Yanfei admitted.
"And it's not like the Millelith could recover the evidence without damaging it. What if the Treasure Hoarders get desperate and destroy it out of spite?"
"Leave it to me, Senior Sister. I'll make sure everything is handled smoothly," Jiang Ning promised, thumping his chest confidently.
"Thanks. I'll treat you to a good meal afterward!" Yanfei said with a grin.
"Just don't make it a tofu feast," Jiang Ning teased.
"Hey! Tofu is delicious!" Yanfei protested, chasing after him.
---
Arriving at their destination, Jiang Ning and Yanfei observed the Treasure Hoarders' camp from a safe distance. Five masked individuals lounged around, their scarred faces marking them as unsavory characters. A pile of gold and jewels lay beside them, along with a finely crafted box.
"That's the box!" Yanfei whispered urgently. "Be careful—it's what's inside that matters most!"
"Got it. Watch this, Senior Sister…" Jiang Ning said with a sly grin.
With a snap of his fingers, he activated his Cryo powers, dispersing a fine mist filled with glittering ice crystals. The camp was soon shrouded in an eerie fog.
This is my chance to try out a stealth technique—Liyue's version of invisibility. I've always wanted to do this, Jiang Ning thought with excitement.
Meanwhile, the Treasure Hoarders grew uneasy.
"Damn it, Old Three, what kind of place did you pick? Why is it so foggy in broad daylight?" their leader snapped.
"Who cares? Once we've rested, we'll head to Mondstadt. It's lawless up there—we'll live like kings!" another chimed in.
Jiang Ning sighed internally. Mondstadt's reputation really takes a hit with people like this…
Yanfei nudged him. "What's the plan, Junior Brother?"
Jiang Ning smirked. "Don't worry. Let's give them a little scare."
Channeling his powers, he summoned three ghostly figures—small, mischievous spirits reminiscent of Hu Tao's playful creations.
"Wait… isn't that Hu Tao's trick?" Yanfei asked, nearly laughing out loud.
"Not quite! Mine are upgraded," Jiang Ning whispered proudly. Unlike Hu Tao's non-corporeal spirits, his were imbued with necromantic powers, allowing them to manifest physically for a short time.
Directing his spectral minions, Jiang Ning issued orders:
"Ah Da, Ah Er—you two scare them senseless. Do whatever you want, just make sure they panic. Ah San, you sneak in and retrieve that box. And remember—be stealthy and careful!"
The three little ghosts shivered with glee before darting off into the fog.
Yanfei chuckled, her expression a mix of amusement and exasperation. "Junior Brother, the names you give your creations…"
"Simple names are easier to remember," Jiang Ning replied with a grin.
Moments later, screams of terror erupted from the camp as the Treasure Hoarders cried for their mothers.
