The convoy had returned to New Haven, the engines of the vehicles rumbling low as they parked inside the protective walls. George, exhausted from the events of the day, stepped out of the Jeep and inhaled deeply, letting the evening air calm his racing thoughts. The confrontation with the mutants had rattled everyone, but there was a deeper unease gnawing at George. Something felt off, and it wasn't just the battle they had barely survived.
As George made his way toward the mansion, General Mitchell caught up to him, his footsteps heavy on the gravel. "Carter, a word?" the general said, his voice low but commanding.
George stopped and nodded, signaling for Raven, Lucy, and Jackie to go ahead without him. "I'll catch up," he said. They looked at him with concern, but they knew better than to ask questions now.
