Forsaken souls: nightmare of the dead

“Are you afraid of the dark?” There was a party going on tonight; everyone was excited for the thrill and dangers the host promised us. We were meant to be present and show ourselves with our most attractive attires. Everyone received a letter accompanied by an invitation. It was the perfect excuse to chill and take a rest from all our jobs. It was a custom party. We were asked to choose whatever costume we wanted and wear it for the occasion. “What are you thinking about?” I turned my head to eye a man who studied with me when I was in high school. It felt weird meeting all my classmates. It was surprising for all of us. The invitation had us all coming here in addition to strangers I had never seen; all twenty-two students of the 3-E class. I felt horrible and a sense of foreboding engulfed me; I felt like I shouldn’t have come. “I thought how we came all to the same party; it must have been someone we knew, don’t you think so, Emmanuel?” Emmanuel offered me a glass of wine that he carefully filled. I remembered how my mother warned me to never accept offerings from strangers, that I should keep away from any frightful circumstances. Nevertheless, I accepted his kindness and gulped the content in one go. I felt nervous; I was the only one without a fancy dress or flashy jewellery. I needed to chill. “I heard that the host made this party specifically for you, you must rejoice.” I waited for the host to show up and announce the events of the night, the games he prepared carefully and the excuse to be away from this place. I hated being here. It was comfortless and dreary. As I waited, my vision started turning blurry and darkness engulfed my vision slowly. I wanted to ask Emmanuel what was happening and to catch me before I fall. My surroundings went awry and I fell. The next moment I opened my eyes, my body experienced the pain of a fall and I was in a gloomy warehouse where even the sun couldn’t penetrate its huge walls. [Welcome to the party everyone! This is a party specifically made for the dead. Only by being dead you win.] And a burst of horrendous evil laughter resounded in my ears like the scream of a ghost.

I am coming for you my love

The malevolent moon cast an ominous glow on the surprised face of the girl. Natasha was her name. However, it didn't matter for him. She would be a baseless corpse after a few hours; it really didn't matter. The unsettling scream of a raven could be heard outside the classroom. Natasha felt it deep in her bones; the boy wasn't sane. Something in her told her to let her legs take the control and run. Run away from all those creepy sounds that submerged the hollowed corridors.

Emmanuel stared at her with a grin that took shape over his lips invading all his face, his eyes felt smiling as well. He turned his head slowly feeling the excitement rise in him then he opened his eyes in horror from his own thoughts. He was tainted with the evil aura surrounding the whole space; t would be bad if he let himself lose control. It wasn't good; he would regret it. Natasha stopped and his thoughts started calming down. There was nothing that would make him insane. He wanted to get to Elianna and protect her; he wanted to be there. However, there was a dimensional wall between them.

She was with him yet she wasn't. He imagined her ghost roaming around searching for clues. He knew her very well; he always stalked her without realization. She had never known he lived next to her.

Her ears twitched at the sound of rusted doors moving causing strange vibrations in her soul. Her eyes returned to the boy who calmed down and decided it was the perfect moment to run away, the perfect moment to save her life. She felt it… He meant it when he said he would kill her, he would use her life for a reason. She turned her body and started running.

Emmanuel watched her as she ran and her excitement returned. "Why did you have to run? Weren't you the one who came to me? What was your name? Tell me your name, I will make sure to honour it with a wound. Come to me!"

He had the totem carefully wrapped in his clothes… Carefully pressed against his chest. Natasha regretted trying to get familiar to him; she knew the boy from high school and her guts told her he was dangerous. It was after months of avoiding that she believed it was only her wishful thinking that made him look bad in her head.

Her breath came in tortured gasps as she almost slipped and tripped. Reaching out blindly in darkness as he followed her walking slowly with a calmness that was surprising even to himself. The corridors turned haunted and creepy as the moonlight faded leaving place to a dark shade of despair. She fell against a tree trunk that appeared from nowhere, it just slipped from the wall like a living thing.

Heedless to the bite of pain, she withered to the ground casting her eyes around, looking for any sign of him. Her eyes desperately searched for his silhouette and his shadows then she heard it; the sound of his footsteps that resonated even in the open space… She got up in a hurry and resumed running. She had a life to live and she was too young to die from the hands of a psychopath.

"No, I don't want to die," she said to herself, tears swelling in her eyes.

A heavy thunder struck near the school. Strangely, the corridors became long and so creepy. She had to keep running but her stamina wasn't great. Her lungs threatened to burst and her legs warned to give up. Then rain started pouring like blood. She thanked God because there was a roof over her head. However, the rain touched her clothes even when the roof was still. Her skirt felt wet and heavy, dragging her behind and the cold was activated in a strange demeanour. Her fingers started chilling even when she was running and her body was hot from the excessive exercise.

Her mouth opened on a startled scream as she attempted to jump a chair but it floated taking her completely by surprise. Screeching once again in terror, she fell to the ground. She struggled to get up but her body was giving up on her; it refused to move and Emmanuel stood on top of her head with the same twisted smile.

"Did you have enough?" his voice came out cracking like the sound of a spoon scratching a plate. She swallowed and the tears came down.

"Please! I didn't mean anything by scaring you. I just felt weird being here after we were in a party. It's a prank, right? You wanted to do an early Halloween party. I understand. I understand your prank… You can now stop…" she didn't mean what she said at all. It was a futile attempt to distract his attention.

Twisting her body till she was on her back, her fingers dug the ground as she tried to claw her way out in the opposite direction. He grabbed her feet dragging her to the classroom that wasn't even far from where she fell. Her nails broken and her fingers bleeding, she begged him to spare her life. Nevertheless, there was only one way to send a message and it was by using blood. He liked his flesh and he swore to injure himself only when she is involved.

Her energy left her slowly and the only thing she had to fight for her life left. She was completely at his mercy.

Emmanuel grabbed her body by the waist like a rag and tossed her over a chair. The first thing he did was to slay her head while leaving the last part of her flesh in the part of the neck to keep the head from falling. He spread her legs and scratched the words he meant to say carefully, trying to make a work of art. The girl was long dead and he was focusing on his piece as the body appeared in Elianna's dimension.

Diana screamed at the sight and ran to the door, pushing and hitting till it opened.

The blood sipped from the corpse slowly and Elianna opened her eyes in terror as the words wrote themselves.

"Wait for me my love! I am coming to get you!"
