For Us (Glee)

What happened after Brittany and Santana's vacation in lesbos? They had to return to real life eventually right? Back to New York, back to their friends, back to figuring out what being an adult means. This is basically how I see their life going (with some flashbacks to before this story starts for some flavour.) This is a long one, so buckle in ;)

Chapter 4

It had taken what felt like years, but in reality was only two months, for Santana and Brittany to decide where they were going to move to, find new jobs and an apartment they both loved and put in their notices at work. They decided not to tell their friends they were leaving until the weekend before they moved. This was mostly because they didn't want to deal with the judgemental questions like "have you thought this through?" that were sure to come from Kurt, or the mutterings of "it doesn't seem responsible to just up and leave" that they knew would come from Tina or Artie. Most of all, they were hoping to avoid the many long-winded lectures Rachel would corner them with.

Sitting in her living room packing up things that she wasn't even sure belonged to her or Santana, Brittany was positively buzzing with excitement. Sure she loved New York, but she had come here with and for Santana. At the time, and maybe for the past three years, New York was where Santana had needed to be. If you asked Santana she would tell you that she needed New York to show her that it was okay to be who you are, but Brittany thought differently. To her, Santana had needed New York to humble her. She needed to be around very many talented and hard working people, like Rachel, who had plans and big dreams. She had needed to experience not being at the top of the foodchain, and realising that it was okay. It was fine to leave now, because Santana was no longer seeking or expecting fame, she was chasing a dream of being a performer because that's what she loved. Knowing this, Brittany was ready to leave New York. There were too many people for her liking, and everyone was always rushing. The dancing was too rigid and formal, and she needed to go somewhere that would let her be free. This was why they were moving to California. There were plenty of job opportunities for the both of them, the weather wasn't too bad most of the time and according to the internet, it would be more cost effective than New York. Brittany's favourite part though, was that it was far enough away that no one would be visiting soon. It was going to be a fresh start.

Suddenly, Santana came bursting through the front door, making Brittany jump so hard she banged her knee hard against the coffee table.

"Santana JESÚS!"

"BRITTANY SUSAN!"

"SANTANA MARIE!"

Brittany was still rubbing her sore knee. She could already see the bruise forming.

"WHY THE HELL AREN'T YOU ANSWERING YOUR PHONE?"

Her heart rate was still too fast, but Brittany had calmed significantly. Her body had gone into high alert with Santana's entrance, and with the adrenaline leaving her system, Brittany felt it being replaced by anger.

"Santana what the hell? Why are you yelling? You nearly gave me a heart attack!"

She watched Santana take several breathes as though she had been running, then she finally released the door handle, which she had had in a vice grip, and crossed her hands over her chest.

"I guess we're even then"

Brittany cringed at the tone she was hearing. Usually she would proceed with caution, but she was still angry. Her knee was beginning to throb and the open door was letting in all kinds of funky smells that were only irritating Brittany further.

"What do you mean? Are you seriously getting back at me for scaring you when you were coming out of the bathroom? Santana that was almost three weeks ago!"

Santana took a step forward and finally closed the door. Brittany wondered if she had meant to do it so hard.

"BRITTANY I DON'T GIVE A FUCK ABOUT YOU SCARING ME THREE WEEKS AGO! WHY AREN'T YOU ANSWERING YOUR PHONE!"

Brittany took a step back.

"Stop yelling"

She hated that her voice came out so quiet, but she couldn't help it. She hated it when Santana yelled, even when it wasn't at her. She never knew how to deal with it properly and it always seemed to spiral out of control. It was something that she rarely had to face, since Santana almost never yelled at her, but when she did, it made Brittany feel horrible. Instead of facing Santana she turned away to look for her phone.

"Britt we talked about this"

She let her eyes trail back to Santana's. her voice was quiet now, and it allowed Brittany to decifer what the problem was. Santana had been scared. She had not been able to reach Brittany and it had taken her back to those four days when Brittany had been in a coma, and she couldn't find her. She took a single step forward then stopped, deciding to let Santana come to her. She was still a bit annoyed.

"I'm sorry Santana, I guess I left it in the room, or kitchen or something when I was packing earlier. I didn't hear it. But you're right, we did talk about this. So why are you acting this way?"

Santana was silent for a while, and Brittany watched her. She watched her shoulders slump and her hands fall from across her chest. Her eyes lowered from glowering at Brittany and she took a step back, leaning against the door. Nearly three minutes later she sighed and spoke.

"I tried. But then it was almost four hours and I still couldn't reach you and nobody had heard from you. A…and I..I just got flashbacks to when…"

Her voice trailed off and she closed her eyes. Brittany closed her eyes too. She had no idea what to say. Things had been this way for months. Santana was always calling her at random times, frantically asking if she was ok, or she'd show up at the studio when Brittany had her phone off. When Brittany had had enough of this, Santana began calling her friends and dancers, or asking the neighbours to check in on her. Eventually they had to have a long emotionally draining conversation about boundaries and fears. They had decided that Santana could check in a maximum of three times a day, and if Brittany didn't respond, Santana could not freak out until 7 PM. They had chosen that time because it was when Brittany would be leaving the studio, or Santana would almost be done with work. They talked at this time everyday even before the accident, so if Brittany missed it then Santana would have a reason to worry.

Brittany knew this wasn't normal. Santana was traumatised, but she refused to get help. When she would wake up crying or screaming and clutching onto Brittany as if she could disappear at any moment, Brittany would wrap her up in her arms and hum to her, repeating over and over "I'm here baby" until Santana fell back asleep. The first few times it happened, Brittany tried to talk to her about it the next morning, but Santana would say she was fine and refuse to say anymore. She never said what she dreamed of, and when they had confrontations like the one they were currently engaged in, Santana wouldn't even mention the accident. She always just let sentences hang in the air, or would say "you know", waving her hand around as if that served as an ample explanation. Brittany knew she had to get her to talk about it in order for her to heal, but for the first time in their relationship, she had no idea how to.

Finally opening her eyes she took another step forward and spoke.

"Santana"

It was barely above a whisper but by the way Santana squeezed her eyes shut tighter she knew she had been heard.

"Santana" she said again. Santana sighed heavily before opening her eyes slowly, though she didn't look at Brittany.

"I just don't understand why you can't keep your phone on you."

Brittany understood what she was saying. She was very fluent in Santana. She was trying to convice Britany that there was nothing wrong with her. That her fears and behaviors were not abnormal or irrational. They had been having coded conversations like these for a while, and she would usually participate, trying to work out the hidden meaning behind Santana's words, but today she had had enough. The throbbing pain in her knee reminded her that this had gone on for too long. They were moving next week, and Brittany refused to allow this behavior to follow them to California.

"Santana please"

"I have to go back to work. I left rather abruptly"

"No"

"What do you mean 'no'?"

"I mean that I'm not letting you walk away from this conversation."

"Brittany-"

"No Santana"

"Brittany-"

"No Santana"

"Damnit Brttan-"

"Santana. I said NO"

Santana's eyes widened as they finally looked into Brittany's. They stared at each other for a long moment before Santana's whole demeanour softened and she closed the distance between her and Brittany. Brittany gathered Santana in her arms the way she did most nights and let her cry. They stood there with Santana muttering incoherently and Brittany silently stroking her hair, fighting the tears threatening to fall from her own eyes.

Finally, after what Brittany was sure was an hour, Santana's sobs calmed and her breathing became more regular. Without moving an inch she spoke the words that Brittany had been hoping to hear. They were so quiet that if Santana had not been pressed so closely into her, Brittany would not have heard, but as it were the words were as clear as day.

"I'm so scared B."

**********************************************************************************

Brittany had known that this was not going to be a quick conversation. She had been prepared to do a lot of careful coaxing and soothing, but she had not been prepared for this. It had been two hours since Santana had confessed she was scared and they had moved into their bedroom to lie on the bed. Santana had been lying on her chest for so long in complete silence that Brittany wasn't sure if she was still awake. She knew it was important to let her process her feelings and decide what she was going to say, but Brittany was beginning to think that she wouldn't say anything at all. She cleared her throat just in case Santana was asleep, hoping that the noise and movement would wake her up, but Santana remained as still as before. Brittany wasn't sure if this meant that she had already been awake, or that she hadn't woken up. She was about to try again when she heard Santana speak. The sadness and vulnerability in her voice had Brittany wanting to pull her out of bed and tell her to just forget the whole thing, but she stayed strong and listened.

"I had this feeling all day…that day. I kept wanting to call you, but then I would talk myself out of it because you were busy. We were both busy. Then you cancelled lunch and the feeling grew. It was like in the pit of my stomach and I kept thinking 'something isn't right'. But I just brushed it off because what could possibly be wrong? But then I couldn't reach you, and my gut kept telling me to pass by the studio, to just pass by and see how you were. Then I stopped myself again because we were both too busy for me to just pass by for no reason. Then it was 7, and you never called. My mind kept saying 'Santana her phone is dead, that's why she hasn't returned any of your calls'. But there was just something off you know? Something just wasn't right because you were supposed to be home early so you would have been able to charge your phone and call me. You always call me"

Brittany could do nothing but nod. It was true, she always called.

"But my stupid fucking mind told me not to go pick you up at the studio because you wouldn't be there. 'Just head home Santana, she's waiting for you'. But you weren't there B. Then I kept waiting. I stayed at home and kept waiting until even my brain couldn't come up with any more excuses. I jumped in the car so fast and drove to the studio in less than 5 minutes, and when I got there, there was nothing. It was locked, so I couldn't even check inside. I called everyone we both know and they all said they hadn't talked to you all day. I called your boss and the dancers whose numbers I had and they all said they last saw you at 6. That was almost 4 hours ago at that time, so I really began to freak out. I walked your normal route home checking alleys and abandoned looking apartments just to make sure you weren't passed out or something. And then on the corner of one of the blocks there was all this blood."

Brittany inhaled sharply. She hadn't known there was blood. She hadn't really thought much about her head injury, so she couldn't imagine what the scene looked like. When she had woken up there had been a cut at the base of her head, and though the doctors tried to explain what had happened, she hadn't really been paying attention. Now she tried to picture a frantic Santana on the street looking at blood and imagining the worst. She pulled Santana tighter against her chest and closed her eyes. She would not cry. She would be strong for her Santana.

"I went to the police station and they were completely fucking useless. They said New York is a big city and people get 'lost' all the time. They told me I could come back in 48 hours if you were still missing but that they weren't sure how they could help me even then. So I called Kurt and Rachel and we went to all the hospitals looking for you. But that was also totally useless. They said they couldn't really give me any information since we're not related or married, but also that if you didn't have any identification on you, it would be hard for them to look you up in their database. After that there really wasn't anything for me to do. Kurt suggested that I go check the morgues just in case, but I refused."

Brittany shuddered at that. She tried to imagine Santana looking at dead bodies hoping and praying that it wasn't her, and try as she might, she couldn't stop the tear that fell from her eye.

"So I came back home. Rachel and Mercedes stayed with me since I almost killed Kurt after his suggestion. We all stayed in the living room because I couldn't go into our room. I couldn't sleep or eat and I just sat there on the floor waiting for 48 hours so I could go back to the police. Everyone sort of took shifts watching me for the first two days, then I made them leave. The cops were fucking useless but they said they'd start looking and file reports or something so that they'd know if you turned up in a hospital. I walked around the city on the third day just hoping I'd find you somewhere. Every time I saw a blond homeless person lying on the ground I'd pray it was you. Then it wouldn't be and I'd start crying and just pray and pray to every god and to the whole universe that you were alive. I kept trying to prepare myself to hear you were dead, but I knew you weren't somehow. I could just feel it."

Brittany wanted to know how she knew, but she thought that maybe that was an answer she would never get. So she decided to stay quiet. She began stroking Santana's hair, clutching her even tighter than before. She now understood why Santana did this in her sleep.

"I didn't know if I'd ever see you again. I started thinking of all those stories I've read or movies I've watched about women being kidnapped and raped and sold to be sex slaves or part of baby farms or some shit. Fuck Britt…. I was so scared you'd just be one of those women who just disappear off the fucking face of the earth. I kept thinking about how you'd still be with me if I'd listen to my fucking gut. And then I passed this ally that was so creepy and dingy and there were like three people just sleeping on the floor. I think they were crackheads, and I decided to just sit there, thinking I'd never leave that spot again, just let myself die there or whatever because what was the point with you gone…"

Brittany couldn't stop the sob that escaped her then. She really couldn't believe that she had been the cause of that kind of despair and hopelessness in Santana.

"I think I must've fallen asleep from exhaustion cause I hadn't slept in days, but I woke up to my phone ringing. And I kind of answered mostly so it would shut up. I thought it was Rachel or Mercedes or something, and I really didn't have the energy cause I hadn't eaten either. Then I hear this woman's voice I'd never heard before, and she was saying that you were in the hospital and that I was the last called on your phone. And yeah, I jumped up and got a taxi to the hospital."

She went quiet again. Brittany was trying to cry as quietly as possible, but as Santana was lying on her chest, she was sure it didn't really matter how quietly she cried. She had no idea what to say. No wonder she had been so adamant about the damn phone. She had stopped herself from calling and checking in, and her reward had been losing Brittany for 4 days. It made perfect sense now.

They sat in silence for a long stretch of time until Santana finally spoke again.

"Now every day I just get these moments where I think, 'is she ok?'. And I try tell myself that you are, but then that makes everything worse because that's what I told myself before, you know?"

Brittany nodded. She knew.

"So then I sort of begin to panic, and I just can't help myself. I need to be sure in that moment that you're ok. It's like I can't breathe or think of anything else. I just see the blood and imagine you lying there bleeding on the street or in the hospital unconscious for hours while I prayed for you to wake up and I just have to talk to you to remind myself that no, you aren't in any of those places."

Brittany understood. She had been that way too after the school shooting. It was not the exact same thing, but it was similar. At random points throughout her day Brittany would get the feeling like she was still in that bathroom stall and needed to be completely still and quiet. At first it was crippling, and she would effectively become paralysed until someone physically shook her out of it. After a while though, she realised she just needed to do something she would not have been able to do in that moment. She'd call Santana if she was alone or talk to whoever she was with if she wasn't. She'd get up and walk or go for a run if she could. Eventually it stopped happening.

"I know it can be annoying B and I promise I'm trying. But-"

Shaking her head Brittany cut Santana off. "No Santana it's okay. I promise It's okay. I didn't understand before but I get it now. I'm so sorry baby. Listen to me, we can work through this together okay?"

Santana shuffled closer to Brittany before answering. "Okay"

"I promise I'm going to do everything I can to make sure you don't feel that way anymore. I'll start keeping my phone in my boobs just like you"

Much to Brittany's relief, Santana let out a small breathy chuckle. This made her relax slightly.

"You can try"

"Are you calling my boobs small Santana Lopez?"

Santana raised her one hand from around Brittany's waist to instead cup her right breast. She then turned her head slightly and found Brittany's left nipple through her shirt, encasing it with her lips.

Brittany inhaled sharply. Not having expected the sudden action, she let out a small moan. Her hand, seemingly of its own accord, found its way to the back of Santana's head, keeping her in place.

Slowly, Santana began to squeeze the breast she was holding. At the same time she grazed her teeth along the nipple she still had in her mouth. Brittany's grip on her girlfriend's hair tightened as she shivered.

"Is that a no then?" she asked with a husky voice. She wasn't sure if she should be embarrassed by how quickly Santana had turned her on, but as she felt a hand travel down her torso to the hem of her shirt, then felt it dip underneath her shirt and trail back up her abs, Brittany could not bring herself to care.

She closed her eyes slowly as Santana's fingers pinched her one nipple, and moaned loudly as she took the other one into her mouth again, loving the feel of Santana's tongue against her skin. She removed her hand from Santana's head to rest it on her back, and Santana released her nipple after a small nibble that sent a sharp tingle straight to the base of Brittany's stomach.

Brittany was in such a state of bliss that she nearly jumped when she heard Santana's voice right in her ear. Her eyes snapped open and she was shocked to see that Santana had moved from beside her, and was now straddling her waist, with both hands encasing her boobs.

"That's a hell no baby"

And then suddenly Santana was gone. Brittany lay there for a second, until realisation hit her and she blinked rapidly.

"Wait where are you going?"

Santana looked at her with a smirk and a mischievous glint in her eyes.

"I told you I have to go to work B"

Brittany blinked again. "What? Santana you can't be serious!"

Walking back to the bed, Santana smiled sweetly at Brittany before bending to kiss her forehead.

"As a heart attack Britt-Britt"

"Santana you can't leave me like this!"

"I'll be back at 6. Maybe next time you'll answer your phone"

Brittany couldn't believe her ears. "Santana-"

"Have a good day baby". And with a wink, Santana was walking out of their room.

Brittany lay there in disbelief, waiting for Santana to come back in saying 'just kidding Britt'. But when she heard the front door open and close, she realised that this would not happen. Letting out a long breath, Brittany sat up and looked around.

Where was her damn phone anyway?

*********************************************************************************

"TOUCH ME AGAIN AND WE'RE GOING TO HAVE A PROBLEM PRANCY SMURF!"

From her place beside Santana, Brittany watched in mild amusement as Kurt hastily retracted his hand, which had been poised to hit Santana's shoulder for the third time.

It was Sunday, and Brittany and Santana had finally told their friends they were moving. As expected, Rachel had launched into a speech about how she felt their decision was rash and ill advised. She had said a bunch of other things that Brittany had tuned out before Santana had stepped in and shut her up. Then Mercedes had asked them where they were moving, and upon receiving the answer, Kurt had hit Santana for the first time. To her credit, and much to Brittany's surprise, Santana had not reacted in kind. Instead, she had simply asked Kurt what the problem was.

"New Yorkers don't move to LA Santana". Kurt had said, as if it were something obvious.

When Santana had replied that they were not in fact moving to LA, but to San Jose, Kurt had hit her again. This time Brittany saw the hint of irritation flare in Santana's eyes, but was again surprised when nothing came of it.

"What Kurt!?

"Santana what on earth are you going to do in San Jose for heaven's sake? You have a great job here, you have us here! Britt is just starting to get discovered. Are you sure you've thought this through properly?"

There it was. Brittany had been expecting it, but it didn't make the condescending question any less annoying. She knew that they were really asking Santana why she was going along with a BSP plan. Sure Brittany was rash and often didn't think things through but that was because they were usually unimportant decisions and she liked to let the chips fall where they may. She didn't like to overthink things. But she would never be so reckless with Santana's career. Of course they had thought this through. They had looked at every pro and con, and they had planned everything out. Brittany hated the fact that their friends still didn't see them as adults. This was one of the reasons why she had wanted to leave them in the first place.

"Despite what you may think Kurt, Brtitts and I are grown-ups."

Brittany turned to eye Santana. This was one of those many situations that served as proof that Santana could read her mind.

"I didn't mean it that way Santana, but come on..."

Before he could irritate her further, Mercedes had interrupted, asking when they were leaving. It was after Brittany had told them "on Tuesday" that Kurt had tried to hit Santana again. Now here they stood, trying to stare each other down.

"Okay let's all take a breath and relax" Mercedes finally said.

"You can't leave so soon Santana. You have to put in notice at work." Artie piped up, in a tone that showed he clearly thought he had proved their irresponsibility.

Try as she might Brittany could not contain the eye roll that she had been holding back since this conversation began. Nobody but Mercedes had been directing their statements to her, and even when she did, it had been by throwing the occasional glance her way. They were all acting as though Santana was her parent, and Brittany had no say in the matter. As though she were just tagging along. It irritated her to no end.

"Oh shit? Really? Damn Britt did you know that?" Santana asked in exaggerated alarm.

When Brittany turned to face her she understood immediately what Santana was doing. So she answered,

"Why yes Santana I did know that. That's why we put in our two weeks, two weeks ago. I also knew that we have to discuss terminating our lease with the landlord, and for added measure, we got a reference from him to send to our new landlord, who we researched by talking to their previous tenants."

"Wow" Santana said in mock awe. "But wait!" she suddenly exclaimed. "I have such a great job here. And you're just beginning to get discovered"

Brittany nodded sagely and then turned to their friends.

"That's true, but did you know that unless we both wanted to work on Broadway, it would be better for both of our careers, and easier, AND not to mention cheaper, to move to California? There is a record label, I'm not sure if you know it, 'A&M records'-"

"Yes I think I may have heard of it"

"Well they just opened an office in California, San Jose no less, and were looking for an assistant in talent sourcing."

"Oh okay then" Santana said, letting out a relieved sigh. Then, again she opened her eyes wide and exclaimed, "But WAIT"

But before she could continue, Mercedes cut in. "Okay, okay. We get it." Then turning to Brittany she said, "Sorry Britt, we're just shocked you know? We didn't see it coming"

Brittany smiled sweetly at her and shrugged. She would not say it was okay, but she would let it go.

"I still don't like the idea of you guys moving" Rachel said. "But I can admit that it may be because I have gotten rather used to living so close to you guys. We're family you know. And I simply can't imagine having to take a five hour plane ride every time I need to have a girl's night with Santana or-"

"Don't go spreading lies Berry. You and I have never had a girl's night"

"Don't you think it's a bit selfish to drag Britt across the Coast just because you found a new slightly better job?"

They all turned to Sam then. He had been silent the whole while. Brittany wished she could say she was shocked by his statement, but she wasn't. Since they had announced their engagement he had been weird. He had been antagonizing Santana every time they were in the same room, and was constantly looking at Brittany as if she were a person being held hostage and he was waiting for the signs that she needed help. Once, when he had come to her studio to walk home with her, something that they occasionally did, he had stopped her and asked, "Why are you doing this Britt". Brittany had known full well what he was asking her, but had decided to play dumb. "Well I don't have a car, and Santana is working late today. I didn't really feel like waiting for her to finish so I decided to walk." The look he had given her then told her that he knew what she was doing, but he didn't say anything, and they continued walking home.

Now she looked at him, completely shocked not by what he'd said, but that he had actually voiced his…actually Brittany wasn't sure what was wrong with him, but the fact that he was voicing whatever it was not only in front of Santana, but directly to her, was very surprising. Brittany could actually feel the way Santana had gone rigid and could hear the gears turning in her head as she worked out what the best way to respond to Sam would be. Brittany decided it would be best if she didn't allow her to respond at all, so she did so herself.

"Sam I don't know what your problem has been lately but it's time you listen closely. As a matter of fact all of you guys should listen closely. Santana and I made this decision together. We sat down like the adults that we are and talked about everything. We did our research, and have therefore made sure to cover every base that could possibly need to be covered."

Santana was nodding along as she spoke, and Brittany found this oddly comforting. She had never really been that good with words, but she was entirely over this conversation, so she continued.

"This decision is the best course of action for both of us, and Santana found that job after we had decided we wanted to move. But I will tell you this… If it so happened that it was the case that Santana had found this job before we had planned to leave, I would absolutely leave my job and move to California. We are in a life-long commitment, a partnership, and what's good for her is good for me. I'm sure if it were reversed-"

"I'd leave my job in a heartbeat fish lips."

Brittany didn't respond, but turned to Santana with a loving look before continuing.

"I hope you get over whatever it is that's up your butt Sam."

Ignoring Santana's laughing, and the hurt look that spread across Sam's face, Brittany turned to walk away, grabbing Santana's hand to drag her along.

"Where are you going Britt?" Tina asked.

"We came to tell you guys we're leaving, and we've just done that so…we're going home" Santana replied.

This made Brittany stop in her tracks and face Santana with furrowed brows. It was like she had taken the words right out of her mouth. It didn't even sound like a reply Santana would give. It lacked any sarcasm, any insults, and the tone was genuine rather than snarky or irritated.

Brittany looked at their friends quickly to see if they noticed too, and then, reassured by shocked faces, she turned back to Santana, who was looking confused.

"What?"

Brittany eyed her for a second longer before continuing to walk towards the door with a firmer grip on her girlfriend's arm. She would talk to Santana about the mind reading later.

"Wait Britt we're sorry okay" it was Kurt. Usually Brittany would have stopped to tell her unicorn not to worry. But she had had enough of this conversation about 20 minutes after it started. She had no desire to stay and hear about how they would be missed, or be forced to make promises to visit frequently. Sure, she would miss the familiarity of being surrounded by people she had known since high school, but Brittany was sure that whatever had been keeping them together all these years wasn't friendship. It was more like some weird co-dependency they had fallen into to survive high school. Yeah they would always be there for each other, but that did not mean they had to be friends, or live with each other forever.

It was definitely time for her and Santana to move on. She hated the way they all treated Santana like she had no feelings. She hated the way they treated her like a child who was never aware of their surroundings. Most of all, she hated the way they all seemed to think they were better than them. It was to varying degrees, but they did in fact all think this. Artie and Rachel were the worst, always talking down at them. Then Kurt, who seemed to think that it was his duty to make them as 'accomplished' as himself. He did it as nicely as possible, and more often than not it came off as a concerned friend, but it was still annoying. Tina was always judging them, but never really said anything, and Mercedes would sometimes make comments like "I wouldn't do it that way" which always made it seem like she knew better. Then there was Sam. Brittany had thought Sam was the only one who just let them be, but in the last couple of months she had realised that he was maybe the worst of them all. Yes, Brittany S. Pierce was done. She was done with the whole lot of them. High school friends are good for high school, but when they refuse to let you grow and change, when they insist on seeing you as the same confused teenager you were four years ago, then it's time to move on.

"It doesn't really matter Kurt. Bye guys!" Brittany replied with her usual cheerful tone, which confused her friends.

"Britt" Mercedes tried, while Rachel called out, "Santana!"

"Bye losers. We'll send you a postcard from San Jose"

Just as the door was closing, Brittany heard Kurt speak.

"Wait, is this the last time we're seeing them?"

It was. For a few years at least, this would be the last time any of them saw Brittany and Santana in person.
