Chapter 38

Santana groaned, rolling over in bed and burying her head deeper into the mattress. "No" she grumbled, hitting Brittany's arm.

"Mmmhh" Brittany mumbled into the pillow.

"No" Santana said again.

Both women lay motionless, hoping against hope that the crying would stop, but after five minutes it was clear that they were out of luck.

"Noooo" Santana whined, rolling off the bed and on to the floor. "Ow"

"Mmmu ok?" Brittany asked, rubbing her eyes and willing her brain to focus.

"Yeah" Santana said, pushing herself off the floor and onto her feet.

"How many?" was all Brittany asked, dragging her feet as she walked to their door.

It took a while for Santana to understand the question. "Oh" she said when it clicked, and checked the alarm clock. "Three" she said, squeezing her eyes shut. Brittany turned and gaped at her in disbelief.

"I have work in three hours?"

"Yeah"

"But we just went to sleep"

"We went to sleep late I guess."

They walked down the corridor to their sons' room, took deep breaths to wake up, and walked in.

"Hey bud" Brittany said cheerfully, picking up Jesús who was standing in his crib, gripping the bars for dear life as he screamed. Kyler raised his hands to Santana, his tears having stopped the second they walked in.

"Mijo why are you awake?" Santana asked him as he buried his head in her neck.

"Maybe they had a bad dream?" Brittany suggested. Jesús was still crying against her chest, clutching her shirt.

"Maybe Jesús had a bad dream and woke up his brother." Santana said, noting that Kyler's breathing had slowed down.

"Do you think we should put them in separate rooms? Maybe that will get them to sleep better….or rather, maybe it'll let Kyler sleep better." Santana shrugged. She was too tired to decide right at that moment.

"Let's talk about it when we've slept a decent amount." She gently swayed back and forth, rubbing up and down Kyler's back.

Brittany sat in the rocking chair, stroking Jesús's hair in a way they had recently learned soothed him quickly. Sure enough, within five minutes Jesús had stopped crying. Brittany threw her head back against the chair and closed her eyes.

"What if we just sleep like this?"

Santana wanted to laugh, but she was so tired it just came out as a puff of air. "I can't sleep standing up"

"Sit down"

Santana closed her eyes, switching from swaying to bouncing. "Can't"

"Switch?"

"No way. They'll wake up again."

"How do you know they're asleep?"

"I can sense it"

They were silent for a while, making sure that the babies were actually asleep before they put them back down. Fifteen minutes seemed a reasonable amount of time, and soon enough, they were both standing on the edge of the cribs watching the slow rise and fall of their sons' chest.

"I'm tired" Brittany said, turning to look at Santana. Santana nodded, and walked silently out of the room, waiting until Brittany had followed before she spoke.

"I know. Me too"

"I'm tired all day, and I'm tired at night."

"Me too"

"I can't do this for much longer. We can't do this for much longer."

"I know."

"What are we gonna do?"

Santana shook her head. "I don't know"

"Santana" Brittany said, her tone disapproving.

"I'm tired Brittany. I can't think right now. We're going to be up in two and a half hours, can we talk about it then?"

Brittany sighed, but agreed.

When their alarm clock woke them up again she was close to tears. It felt like her head had just hit the pillow and now she was supposed to go and dance all day. She didn't even need to open her eyes to know that she was not going to be talking to Santana about a solution to their lack of sleep. Years of sharing the same bed had her tuned in to Santana's body, and she was close enough to feel the tension in her muscles that told her she was in a bad mood. This was going to be a long day.

They got up and dressed in silence, Santana took a quick shower, but Brittany knew she'd be showering later in the day, and was too tired to do it twice. Just as she finished putting on her socks, she heard the whining, and had to remind herself that she loved every single person in this house more than life itself.

"Jesús is up" she said as Santana walked out of the bathroom Santana slowed her movements, pulling off the towel that her hair was wrapped in. Brittany stood up. "I'm going to get him" she said before Santana could say anything. She resisted the urge to roll her eyes as Santana's body relaxed. "I was just letting you know."

"Thanks" Santana said, throwing the towel onto the bed and walking to the closet. "I'll go down and make breakfast."

"Thanks" Brittany said, walking out of the room. She was grateful to see that Kyler was still asleep. Jesús smiled up at her as she walked towards him, lifting his hands from the bars and promptly losing balance. Brittany caught him before he fell, and he laughed. She smiled at him. "I love you my baby, but you're a real nuisance." She kissed his head and walked out. "Why do you hate sleep?" Jesús rested his head against her shoulder and started playing with her hair. "Come on let's go see if you can't make mami smile"

She made her way down the stairs slowly, having to consciously force her eyes to stay open. When she reached the bottom step, she paused and allowed her eyes to close, taking a deep breath. It had been a while since she was as exhausted as she currently was, and the rest of her day seemed impossible.

"Britt?" Santana called from the kitchen. Brittany didn't respond. There was a dull throbbing in her head, not really a headache, but enough to make her feel off. She swallowed thickly.

"Britt" Santana said again. Brittany opened her eyes to find Santana looking at her. "What's wrong?"

"I don't feel great. I just need a minute." She closed her eyes again. Santana walked closer, rubbing the base of her back.

"Do you have a headache?" she asked quietly.

"Not really, but I can feel my brain"

Santana nodded in understanding and went back to watching her wife. Now that she looked closer, Brittany did seem a bit off colour.

"Brittany are you sure you should go to work? Maybe you should rest. We didn't sleep well last night." Brittany shook her head and opened her eyes.

"I'm ok. I just need a coffee." Santana eyed her wearily but nodded, ignoring the uneasy feeling she had in her stomach.

"I just made some, come on." She took Brittany's hand and led her into the kitchen, seating her at the island. "What's your day like today?"

"I have salsa in the morning, then Syth and I need to come up with some choreography for a new client."

"Oh what for?"

"A movie I think"

"Like step up?"

"Yeah"

"That's awesome. Prepare for me to be on set a lot."

Brittany laughed, taking a sip of the coffee that had been set in front of her. "I knew you'd say that." Santana smiled, sipping her own coffee. "What about your day?"

"I have to go into the studio today, my boss said there's a new artist I need to hear. But before that I need to work on the song I was writing yesterday."

"The sad one?" Brittany asked.

"Yeah"

"It's already super beautiful"

Santana smiled again. "Thanks babe"

"When do you think you'll go to the studio?"

"Maybe two. It depends on how far I get in the song."

"Oh but it'll be late afternoon?"

Santana nodded, pouring more coffee into Brittany's empty cup.

"Ow" Brittany yelped, pulling her hand away from a giggling Jesús. She flicked his nose. "No biting Jesús" she said seriously. He stopped laughing, pouting heavily.

"I think I'll ask Quinn or Puck to come over. I don't think I can handle them both by myself today."

Brittany nodded. "I should go. I think I'll be back by 5"

"Ok" Santana turned to put their cups in the sink, but found herself being pulled back and turned. "Britt-" her words were cut off by a soft kiss.

"By my love" Brittany whispered, their lips a hair apart, both their eyes still closed.

"By baby" Santana whispered back, kissing her again.

Brittany pulled back and walked into the living room, placing Jesús on the carpet in front of the tv. "Don't give mami too much trouble please" she told him, kissing the top of his head.

A she walked out of the house, picking her duffle bag and keys she heard Santana calling her. She paused by the door and was soon rewarded by yet another kiss.

"Have a good day" Santana sing-songed, swinging her hips as she walked back to the living room.

Brittany shook her head, forgetting for the moment how bad she was feeling, and thanking all the gods that Santana was her wife.

When she got to the dance studio however, her exhaustion had returned. She asked one of the assistants to get her a large coffee; "One with as much caffeine as a single cup can hold." She loved salsa. Actually she loved most ballroom dances, but they required a lot more precision than hip-hop, which meant that she was going to be asking a lot more of her body than usual. Sighing, she dropped herself gracelessly to the floor and began stretching. When Syth arrived, she was happy that he didn't try too hard to talk to her. He was usually pretty good at reading people and their moods, so the only thing he asked was, "are you ok?" and when Brittany told him that she was, he left her to stretch in peace.

As the day went on, she seemed to be feeling every passing minute in her muscles. They wound tighter and tighter as she pushed herself harder and harder until she wasn't sure if she was feeling the beat of the music or the pulsing of her heart.

"Brittany-"

"Let's just go again" she said in irritation, cutting off what she was sure was going to be a call for a break.

"Look, it's passed lunch time and we haven't eaten, why don't we do that, and then we can resume."

"Am I messing up?" Syth shook his head, sighing. "Ok then, let's just finish so I can get out of here." She moved into position and waited for him to join her.

As they danced, she felt a funny buzzing in her chest….or was it all over her body? She couldn't tell anymore. But there was definitely a buzzing, and while she tried to focus on the moves she was meant to be making, she was also aware of the fact that the edge of her vision was darkening. It was like she was looking through her telescope made from the toilet paper roll. Like someone was making circles around her eyes. She closed them, and opened them slowly, aware that she was no longer moving, but the darkness was still there.

"Brittany?"

"What's that?" she asked, turning her head to look at him.

"What?" Syth asked, taking a tentative step closer to her.

"That sound" she looked around for the source, noting as she did so that her head was moving very slowly.

"Ok, we're taking a break, and I'm calling Santana."

"I'm fine"

"You're not fine. You were pale, but now you're whole face is red, and you've drunk like seven cups of coffee, and you're hearing things."

"I'm fine."

He ignored her, turning his attention to the person he was calling and walking to the corner of the room to turn off the music.

"Hi Santana…no I don't think she is…yeah that might be for the best. Ok see you then." he turned back to face Brittany, only to find her lying on the floor. "Brittany" he called, rushing to her side. He shook her, he slapped her gently, but she didn't wake.

Santana hung up the phone and turned to Quinn. "We have to go pick up Brittany."

"Why?"

"Apparently she isn't doing so good. Syth said he thinks it would be best if we went to pick her up."

"Not so good like she's sick?" Quinn asked, standing up with a napping Jesús.

"Yeah I think so. She was a bit off in the morning, but she said she was fine. I guess it got worse." She sighed, "but I need to go into the office. So I guess…we'll go pick her up and then drive over there."

"We can drop you there and then I can bring her back here if she need to rest or something."

"But then there's her car. Would you mind driving her car back and then I'll just go to the office alone"

"No, that's totally cool."

"Awesome, then I'll just go get their bags."

They had just gotten into the car when Santana's phone rang again. She frowned.

"Chad?"

"Hi Santana" the teen said in a shaky voice.

"What's wrong?"

"Syth said I should call you because he was going to be kinda busy."

"What's wrong?" she asked again.

"Brittany collapsed, so we called an ambulance, and they've just taken her to the hospital."

Santana held her breath, gripping the steering wheel with her free hand.

"What?" Quinn asked, alarmed by her reaction. Santana ignored her and started the car.

"What hospital?"

********************************************************************************

"What happened?" Santana asked as soon as she saw Syth, regretting her harsh tone as she saw how frazzled he looked.

"She's ok, but she collapsed just after I talked to you, and she was burning up. I didn't know what else to do so I called the ambulance." He looked at Santana properly, noticing the same colourless look Brittany had had the whole day. "Are you ok?"

Santana threw him an annoyed look and ignored his question. "What room?"

"I don't know. They wouldn't tell me, but they said a doctor will be in to see her in five minutes."

"Q can you stay out here for a bit?" Quinn nodded quickly, taking the carrier from her and setting it on the chair in front of her. "Thanks, I'll message you when you can come in" Quinn simply nodded again.

"Can I call Puck?" she asked, just as Santana reached the nurses station. Santana nodded absently.

"Hi, my name is Santana, my wife was brought in a few minutes ago."

"What's her name?" the nurse asked, turning to the computer in front of her.

"Brittany Lopez-Pierce." The nurse paused and looked up at her for the first time, recognizing her. For a second she looked like she wanted to say something, then she decided against it and typed in the name.

"Room 311, it's just down that corridor" she pointed.

"Thank you" Santana said, hoping she understood that she was thanking her for more than just the room number. The nurse smiled.

"You're welcome"

As Santana walked down the corridor she had a horrible sense of déjà vu. She shook off the feeling of dread, reminding herself that this was not the same thing. She knew how Brittany was, even if she didn't know what was wrong. Syth said she was fine, and this time she was there with her. She hadn't been looking for her for days, wondering where she was or if she was even alive. This was not the same thing.

She opened the door to Brittany's room and was immediately calmed by the sight in front of her. She smiled.

"Brittany" she said around a laugh. Brittany jumped up from the floor and spun around.

"Oh Santana!" She exclaimed. "Thank god, they forced me into these horrible hospital clothes, and then my phone fell under there" she pointed to where she had been crouching.

"So you're not just showing me your ass for fun?"

Brittany smirked. "I can if you want." She wigged her hips playfully. Santana shook her head and beckoned her closer. When she had her arms around her she rested her head in the crook of her neck and exhaled her stress.

"I'm ok" Brittany whispered, pulling her closer.

"I know….it's just…"

"I know" Brittany said, kissing the top of her head.

There was a light knock on the door and then it opened. A tall middle aged woman walked in smiling. Santana didn't move.

"I see the wife has arrived, Brittany was very adamant that we don't start without you." Her voice was warm and friendly, and Santana pulled back to look at her.

"That's me" she said, offering her hand. "Santana"

"Nice to meet you Santana, I'm Dr Roberts." They shook hands. "Shall we sit?" she indicated the bed. Brittany sighed, but allowed Santana to push her back to the bed. Santana sat on the edge.

"What's wrong with her?" she asked the doctor.

"Well, she's dehydrated, but otherwise there isn't anything seriously wrong, I'm hoping talking with you will help me figure it out." They both nodded.

"Alright, well why don't we start with…when's the last time you ate Brittany?"

"Umm…lunch time?"

"And what time was that?" Dr. Roberts asked, writing down on her clipboard.

"She means lunchtime yesterday" Santana said. The doctor looked up and frowned.

"Around 1" Brittany added.

"I see. You're friend said you drank a lot of coffee today"

"I drink a lot of coffee everyday" Brittany said laughing.

Dr. Roberts smiled. "Why is that?"

"We haven't been getting a lot of sleep, and I need the energy to dance."

"Right, you're a dancer" she made a note, "We'll get back to that. First, why haven't you been getting sleep?"

"Our sons wake up a practically every hour"

"How old are your sons?"

"10 months old"

"Twins." It wasn't a question but they both nodded.

"I see, are they sick?"

"No, one of them is having a hard time teething, and when he wakes up so does the other." Santana said, feeling exhausted just thinking about it. Dr. Roberts inclined her head and looked at Santana properly for the first time, made another note and then looked back at Brittany.

"Brittany, how many hours of sleep did you get this past week? If you had to guess."

"Uhh…from last Tuesday?" the doctor nodded. "Maybe 28….with some naps here and there" she added at the shocked expression on Dr. Roberts face.

"That's alarmingly low." She turned to Santana. "Would you say you got the same amount?" Santana nodded. "What about last night, how much did you sleep?" she was no longer writing on her clipboard.

"Three or four hours…maybe 5" she looked at Santana for confirmation.

"Yeah..."

"Ok…and you collapsed after dancing?" Brittany nodded. "How intense would you say you danced?"

Brittany pursed her lips and thought. "On a scale of one to ten, maybe seven. There have been more intense days." Dr Roberts nodded gravely then smiled.

"Well ladies, the problem is clear. The combination of inadequate sleep, no food, excessive coffee and the rigorous workout that is dancing, is what caused you to collapse. I suspect that if Santana, you were to exercise, you would faint as well. We might need to keep you both for a few hours to rehydrate you properly, but otherwise you just need to rest." Santana and Brittany nodded.

"I mean real rest. If you have someone who can watch your sons, let them. Soak in the bathtub for an hour, eat a hearty meal, and then sleep for at least nine hours."

There was a knock on the door, which the doctor opened.

"Quinn?" Brittany asked, craning her head to see.

"Sorry guys, Jesús was…." She lifted the baby in her hands as explanation.

"Yeah, come here mijo" Santana said, walking towards Quinn and a silently crying Jesús.

"Mama" he whimpered, throwing himself to her and crying into her neck.

Santana walked back to Brittany's bed and sat close to her so that she could rub his back.

"He's hot again. I thought you said teething shouldn't cause fevers" Brittany asked Santana.

"It shouldn't" Dr. Roberts said, walking forward. "Does he often rub his ear on your chest like that?" she asked Santana, who nodded. "Can I see him?" she asked.

Santana looked down at Jesús, and then at Brittany.

"You can just sit him up, I want to check his ear."

Santana sat Jesús up despite his protests, and held him still so that Dr Roberts could look into his ear. She pressed gently on the skin around the ear, making Jesús cry harder.

"I think you should have him checked by a paediatrician," she took a step back and allowed him to bury himself in Santana's hair once more. "I am not one, but I can call one up for you."

"Why?" Brittany asked, sitting up straighter. "It's not teething?"

"It's very possible that he is experiencing some teething related pain, but that is usually not enough to cause this crying. Does your other son also cry like this?"

"No, he's usually fine if he's biting one of the toys we got to sooth his gums. Sometimes he's fussy but he doesn't get hysterical." Santana told her.

"Teething is not this painful, and it definitely does not cause fevers. I think he may have an ear infections, though I don't think it's very severe. With some antibiotics he should be fine in a couple of days."

"But….we took him to the paediatrician a week or two ago and he said he was fine"

"It may have been that he was at the time, but these things can flare up and reverse themselves very quickly when they aren't treated. Again it may not be an ear infection, it may be an infection of a different kind that his doctor missed because he wasn't looking for it."

Santana frowned. It sounded to her like the doctor they had taken him too had made a mistake, and Dr Roberts just didn't want to bad mouth another doctor.

"Would you like me to call the paediatrician for you?"

"Please" Brittany said.

"Yes" Santana added. Dr Roberts nodded with a warm smile at Jesús, and walked out.

"Where's Ky?" Santana asked Quinn.

"With Noah in the waiting room. Should I get him?"

"You can just tell Noah to come in. We're being kept for a few hours anyway, he doesn't need to wait out there." Quinn hurried out, then returned a minute later with Noah and a still sleeping Kyler.

Puck sat on the chair by the bed.

"What's wrong with you Britt?" he asked.

"Hello to you too Noah" she laughed.

"Yeah…hello. What's wrong with you?"

Santana rolled her eyes. "Exhaustion, dehydration and too much coffee."

"Too much coffee?" he asked in surprise.

"I know" Santana said. "I can't believe it either."

"Well, it's not so much that the coffee was too much, it was that I wasn't drinking water or eating."

"So there goes my theory that I could survive on coffee if I needed to." Quinn said, sitting on the other chair in the room. Santana nodded in agreement.

"Why are you being kept for a few hours?"

"To rehydrate us properly."

"Dude. I can't believe all of this is because of these two little hommies." Puck said, looking down at an innocent looking Kyler.

"I know" Quinn said, shaking her head. "I knew you guys were tired, but damn"

"It's just that they won't let us sleep, and we have to go to work. Before, we were tired but it was ok cause we'd just take lots of naps during the day, but now we cant. And it's worse for Britt because she's dancing a crap ton. I just have to sit and write songs."

"Though if it turns out that Jesús does have an ear infection, then it won't be like that much longer." Santana kissed Jesús' head. He was no longer crying, but he was still buried deep in her neck. "I guess we should be grateful I fainted then." Brittany joked. Santana turned and frowned seriously at her.

"I'll be grateful if I never have to step foot in a hospital again." Brittany smiled nervously. "And on that note, I'm never ignoring my gut again. From now on if I have a bad feeling you're staying home with me."

"Santana come on" Quinn laughed.

"No I'm serious. It's that fool me once shit. I've ignored my gut feeling twice now and both times you've ended up in the hospital."

"She's got a point there" Puck said laughing quietly, so as not to wake Kyler.

"But it has to be a real gut feeling, not just that you're thinking about these other times." Brittany tried to negotiate. Brittany and Santana sat staring at each other until finally Brittany sighed in defeat. "Fine. Let's just hope it never happens again."

"Hear hear" Quinn said. "If I never have to deal with a worried Santana again it will be too soon."

Santana rolled her eyes. "Wait until you get married and get a call that your husband is in the hospital"

"Or wife" Brittany said smirking.

"Husband" Quinn said, rolling her eyes.

"We never know with you" Brittany said shrugging. "You said you were straight in high school and then you buried yourself in Santana. Twice."

"Brittany!" Quinn shrieked, hiding her face in her hands. Puck and Santana laughed.

"What it's true" Brittany shrugged again.

"You don't have to say it like that"

"Don't get angry because I'm shining the spotlight on your huge lady boner for my wife's lady parts."

"As much as I enjoy making Quinn uncomfortable, can we stop talking about my lady parts?"

"They are awesome lady party" Brittany said sweetly.

"Thank you baby" Santana said, kissing her temple, "But still"

Their conversation was interrupted by a knock on the door, and before anyone could answer it a tall tan doctor in pink scrubs walked into the room. He smiled at Quinn and Puck, running a hand through his mid length hair, then turned his attention to Santana and Brittany.

"Hi, I'm Doctor Riley" he said warmly. Santana nodded and smiled while he shook Brittany's hand.

"I'm Brittany, this is my wife Santana"

"Sorry I can't shake your hand" Santana said, lifting Jesús up higher as explanation.

"No problem at all. I hope I didn't keep you waiting."

"No, we're here for a few hours anyway so it's no problem." Brittany told him.

"What are you in for? If you don't mind my asking."

Brittany and Santana rolled their eyes in mock exasperation.

"Lack of sleep, dehydration and poor diet" Quinn chimed in, laughing at her friends.

"Ah!" Dr Riley said, laughing as well. "The recipe for parents with twins. So who am I here for?"

"Jesús" Santana said, trying to get him to lift his head. "Dr Roberts said she thinks it might be an ear infection."

"It's ok leave him for a bit, I'll just talk to you for now" Santana stopped trying to push Jesús up and he went back to hiding his face.

"So tell me his symptoms."

"Well, he barely sleeps longer than an hour, and when he's awake he's fussy and clingy like this most of the time." Brittany started.

"Sometimes he'll get a fever. He had one when we were with Dr Roberts, that's why she examined him."

"We thought it was teething."

"No" Dr Riley said, shaking his head. "Only in severe cases do you see a fever, and even then it's usually some kind of infection in the gums. You said he isn't sleeping, is he eating?"

"He'll drink milk or juice, sometimes he'll agree to purees, but he won't take anything solid like a banana or….well any fruit really."

"Hmm. How old is he?"

"Ten months"

"And a half if you want to be really technical" Brittany said quickly. Quinn shook her head in amusement.

"Ten months was fine, but I always like to know more about my patients." He smiled at Brittany. "So, Dr Roberts mentioned his ear is sensitive?"

"Yeah…he's always rubbing it into our chests or with his hand if he's alone. I thought he was just rubbing his head cause he was sleepy....since he sleeps so little" Brittany said guiltily.

Dr Riley smiled at her. "That's perfectly understandable. An ear infection can be hard for parents of such small babies to detect. They can't tell you it hurts. It does definitely sound like an ear infection, though I'll need to examine him to be sure where. Can I?" he pointed at Jesús. Santana nodded and removed Jesús from her neck, seating him facing the doctor. He started crying again.

"Hi Jesús" Dr Riley said, ignoring the tears. "Look what I got in here" he pulled a rubber octopus from his pocket and waved it in Jesús' face. The crying simmered slightly. "This is my friend Olly, and he would really like to say hi to you, will you hold on to him, for me?" he handed the toy to Jesús, who immediately put it in his mouth. Santana cringed.

"Don't worry, it's very clean" he told her. Santana smiled at him in thanks. As Jesús played with the toy the doctor checked both his ears and took his temperature. He pressed his temples and ears just like Dr Roberts had done and then, taking the toy quickly away from Jesús he checked his mouth. Jesús seemed to find it highly amusing that the doctor was poking around in his mouth and didn't cry.

"Ok, he definitely has an ear infection in his right ear, but it's not very bad. It explains why he doesn't want to chew, and why he can't sleep. I'll prescribe some antibiotics for him to take over the next week, and then you should come back and see me. Hopefully it'll be all gone by then."

"Thank you so much" Brittany said sincerely.

"Oh no problem at all. I understand your exhaustion. One child with an ear infection is bad enough without there being another child to take care of."

"Yeah it hasn't been fun."

"Do you mind if I check his brother?" he asked Santana. She smiled at him and shook her head.

"No go ahead. He's sleeping though" Brittany said. Puck stood up and brought Kyler to the doctor.

"That's ok, he doesn't need to be awake for this." He asked Puck to turn him so he could see his ear. "Wow, they look exactly the same" he commented, as he stuck the instrument in Kyler's ear. "I wouldn't know this was a different baby if I hadn't seen them at the same time"

Santana and Brittany laughed, but it was Puck who spoke. "They do. It's super cool"

"But you guys can tell them apart I'm sure" he was talking to Santana and Brittany, but he was looking at Quinn. Santana smirked at her.

"Yeah" Quinn said casually. "Well, Britt and Santana can tell them apart on the spot, Noah and I still get confused sometimes." He smiled at her.

"Noah would you please turn him to the other side?" Puck complied. "So you two are the mothers, may I ask who you two are?"

"Godparents" Quinn said, before Noah could talk.

"Oh…are you..." he looked up at Quinn quickly then shook his head. "Never mind." He stepped away from Kyler. "Well" he said, looking back at Santana and Brittany, "he seems to be in perfect health. He has some very healthy looking teeth and his ears and gums look all clear of infections."

"Thank you Dr Riley" Santana said quietly. Jesús had fallen asleep. He waved his hand in dismissal.

"Don't even worry about it. I'll go write the prescription and then hopefully he'll be all good in a few days." He turned and walked towards the door but paused when he reached it. Quinn put her hand on his hand to stop him. He looked at her.

"We aren't" she said, smiling sweetly at him. He raised an eyebrow and turned to her.

"Sorry?"

"Noah and I….your question earlier" he smiled slightly in understanding.

"You aren't?"

"We aren't" she confirmed.

He smiled brighter, nodded to Brittany and Santana, then walked out.

There was silence for a while, as Brittany bit her tongue to keep from laughing, and Santana struggled with which would be the best way to tease Quinn first. It was Puck who spoke first.

"Well…at least we know your lady bits are safe now Santana"

And all hell broke loose.
