Really Bad

"I'm aware of that," James said. "But what are your concerns?"

"I thought most of the victims would be out of the hospital by now."

"When we first started receiving reports of the strange occurrences, we assumed the victims might have contracted some kind of virus. We tested samples of blood, tissue, and skin scrapings—anything we could find. But the results were negative. That left us scratching our heads."

"So you sent out a search party for more information."

"Yes, but not immediately; we needed to find someone who had actually experienced the events themselves."

"I'm going to assume you did, in fact, find someone."

"That took a long time. Eventually, we managed to locate an old friend of mine. She told us her story. Then I decided to come check on others."

The Chief Earl frowned. "And?"

"And what? Oh, never mind. I shouldn't have bothered you."

The chief shook his head. "Please tell me what happened."
