A stronger villain.

"Greetings, your highness." Abigail's voice brought Avery back to reality. Avery composed herself quickly to avoid suspicion from her.

"How is your day going?" Abigail queried, earning a disgusting look from Avery.

"And what business do you have with how my day is going?" Avery retorted.

"Come on, my senior wife. Isn't it high time we stop this? I just wanted to know how your day is going." Abigail spoke calmly with a small smile on her lips.

Avery kept a straight face while looking at her junior wife with confusion. She didn't remember them having a kind of relationship where her junior wife would want to know how her day went. It seems like she was up to something, so she decided to play along with her.

Hence, the frown on her face turned into a smile.

"I am good." Avery replied curtly.

"I thought about something. Why don't we go into the kitchen together and cook something delicious for our husband."

"Cook???"

"Yes, your highness." Avery looked at her for a while before she finally agreed to follow her.

Avery sat down in the kitchen while Abigail made the food together with some maids. It seemed fun on the outside but both of them were secretly keeping an eye on each other.

After they had cooked the food, they both headed to the king's chamber with their maids to serve the king the food. Maximus came out and was surprised to see his wives together, because they use to be like two parallel lines.

Simultaneously, they knelt down and greeted him, putting Maximus in a state of surprise. However, he was happy to see that they were now getting back together.

They began chattering as they served the food. Just then, Avery excused herself to attend to court matters.

After Avery and the maids left, Maximus began eating while chatting with Abigail.

"Your majesty. When it is time to choose the crown prince, we are going to follow our traditions, right?" Abigail asked all of a sudden, making Maximus choke on his food.

Abigail quickly gave him water, but Maximus rejected and looked at her. Silence reigned for a while between them. Both of them locked eyes with a stern look on their faces for a while before Maximus finally spoke.

"There will be no crown prince." Maximus declared and continued eating.

"I am sure you are joking! You know this country needs a crown prince right? And the earlier, the better….."

Abigail advised her husband for a while but he didn't reply. Instead, he continued to eat. This made Abigail angry.

"Your majesty. I hope it isn't what I am thinking? I hope you aren't planning to leave the throne for that bastard?"

"Abigail!!!" Maximus roared with fury.

"How dare you talk about him like….?"

A violent cough interrupted Maximus' words. He then felt a strange metallic taste in his mouth. With his palm he covered his mouth and brought his hand back to his view.

"B..lood?" Abigail trembled as she saw blood coming out of her husband's mouth.

Maximus began to pant, his body was shivering too and then panic set in.

"Did you… put… something in my…food? Maximus questioned and coughed at the same time.

"Guards!!!" He yelled and three men came in.

"Your majesty, what is happening? Please stop this, you are scaring me." Avery spoke with a trembling voice while Maximus ordered the guards to carry her out of his chamber.

"Send for the royal physician. Tell him it is urgent." The head guard ordered.

The news spread like wildfire. The king ordered the guards to lock Abigail up for poisoning him. Avery was dealing with the court matters when she heard about what happened to her husband.

She hurried to the place but she wasn't allowed to enter because the king said he didn't want to see anyone. She then went to the prison to see Abigail and demand an explanation.

On getting there, she met Abigail crying profusely. Abigail quickly stood up to talk to her senior wife [Avery].

"Your highness! Please help me, why will I poison our husband? He has done nothing wrong to me? Please do something." Abigail pleaded.

"What exactly happened?" Avery inquired.

"I don't even understand. All of a sudden, he started coughing up blood while eating. I didn't add anything to the food, why will I add poison to a food I will be eating out of? Please do something, your highness. You were there when I cooked the food, please vouch for me and get me out of here!" Abigail yelled on top of her voice.

After listening to Abigail's explanation, Avery realized something. It seems someone else is interested in the throne.

Sooner or later, she plans to poison Maximus too. And from her findings, her junior wife wants to get rid of the king and make her son the king too. However, none of them have executed their plan. She was there when Avery was cooking the food and she is hundred percent sure that food wasn't poisoned because she tasted the food and made sure Abigail tasted the food as well.

Definitely, someone else knows about their game and that person is playing their game against them. From the way things are, the person seems like a stronger villain, and the person obviously wants the throne too.

Maximus doesn't have any male siblings who would want to overthrow the throne. And as for Alexander [Abigail's son], even though he wants the throne, he can't implicate his mother because of that and her own son won't take a step like this without informing her beforehand.

She thought about Roshan, but was quick to wave it aside because it seems like that person is after his life too, judging from how he was attacked weeks ago.

Now the question is who? Who else is interested in the throne? Who knows about their plans and secrets and is playing their game against them?
