Chapter 4:

Frantically helping you to get in the room through the window, Rosé was half suspecting this was all a dream. You were finally in her room! It's been a month, she thought she lost you, but you were here. That somehow made her hopeful that whatever was happening between you was long forgotten.

You could see her all giddy, you thought she would be upset with you. But all she could think about was wrapping you in her arms and never letting you go.

"Yn! Oh, Yn… I missed you so much you have no idea. I'm so sorry if I did anything wrong to upset you. I- I didn't mean it I promise. Ugh, I'm just glad you're here now. Oh! You have your backpack with you… you're staying over?!? Yes! Hold on, let me go prepare the bed, we can have a movie night, and catch up… we-" She was rambling, a habit of hers when she was either too happy or too nervous.

You liked seeing her this happy, and for a moment, you felt bad for what you were about to tell her. But you knew it had to be said, if you wanted your plan to work, you had to tell her what was happening.

"Rosé." You called, using her nickname. She didn't like being called by her real name- Roseanne. You used to tease her a lot with it.

"Wait… we need snacks for the movie!"

"Rosé…"

"Should I bring candies or chips? Oh, wait I know… popcorn it is."

"Rosé!"

"Give me five minutes, I'll-"

"Roseanne!" You had enough. If she weren't your best friend you wouldn't even be here, and all she was doing now was wasting your time.

I can't miss the train.

Rosé halted in her step. "Don't call me that." She said with a low whisper. Deep inside her, she knew you weren't here to fix things. But sometimes being delusional helped. Well, at least it did for her.

Watching her with her head held low, you tried to blink back your tears. You need to get this done with, you can't waste any more time.

You dropped down on the bed, patting the spot beside you, mentioning for her to sit down.

"I'm leaving, Rosé. I can't stay here. Too much is happening and-"

"Is it because of Chris?" The sudden mention of his name made you tenser than you originally were.

"He left for Seoul. To study." She started, her voice falling to a whisper.

"Yn you don't have to leave… whatever my brother did to you, you can just move on. I'll help you, just please… don't leave me alone." Stray tears made their way down her rosy cheeks, and you could hear the slight crack in her tone.

The nauseousness was back again, and you knew you had to get away from there as fast as possible.

You stood up from your place, gripping at your tummy as sudden cramps started seeping through. "It's more than that Rosé. You can't help me even if you try to." You took in deep breaths, trying to steady your beating heart.

I need to do this, it's what's best for both of us. You thought, mentally reassuring yourself about what you were about to say.

"Besides, ever since I met Christopher our friendship wasn't all flowers and rainbows. The past month wasn't the best bump in our relationship either." You started, getting Rosé's attention, as now more tears started flowing from her beautiful almond eyes. She was shaking her head furiously as if trying to block out each word that came out of your mouth. But the worst was yet to come.

"And honestly speaking, I think the reason why we ever even became friends was because of your brother. I mean, we might as well end this. Wasn't a big deal anyway, was it?" Saying that out loud made it seem like a breakup. But to Rosé, it was worse than that.

"You haven't seen me tonight, and I was never here. Goodbye Roseanne." Those were the last words you pronounced before climbing out of the window again.

Landing on the ground with a thud, you winced at the pain that rushed through your knees. Looking down at them, you could visibly notice the injury, blood flowing from it. But you couldn't sit there and weep about how miserable your life was about to get. You still had a long journey ahead of you.

***

You reluctantly opened the sliding door, to find a guy sitting there, reading a book. You cleared your throat, earning the boy's attention. "Can I sit here? All the other booths are full." You asked, looking down waiting for an answer.

When a few seconds passed and he still didn't answer, you looked up. He was staring at you, eyes wide. It was as if he had seen a ghost. You immediately assumed he didn't want you near. "I- I'm sorry, I'll go."

Perfect, now you had to either stay standing in the hallways or share a cramped booth with weird people. At least he looked decent, well except for the looks he gave you, that is.

You were about to close the door again, when the boy talked, seeming to finally wake up from his trance. "Wait, you uh, you can stay." He said, his voice is small as if he was scared.

You murmured a small 'thank you' before sitting down on the seat opposite of him and close to the window. You could still feel him staring, but you ignored it and just looked at the passing scenario outside, not that you could see much, it was dark.

You didn't know where the train was taking you, but you didn't care. You thought you would get out at the last station and see where your feet would take you from there.

Looking at the guy, he had his nose back in his book. He looked your age, which would explain the awkward air between you. He had this mysterious aura surrounding him. I wonder what his story is.

You decided to take a nap, you didn't know how long the ride would be, so best make the most out of it. You weren't sure when you'd be allowed to sleep later.

"Hey…" the boy with whom you shared the booth was trying to wake you up, you seemed to be having a nightmare.

He looked at you, he noticed sweat covering your face, your hair sticking to it. From the looks of it, you looked like you were about to die, furiously trashing in your sleep. For some reason, he felt bad for you and didn't want to leave you suffering like that. So he reluctantly stood from his place, to get close to you. Reaching his hand to shake you awake, he immediately retreated when you jumped from your sleep.

You were breathing heavily, you wrapped your arms around yourself, terrified. You still couldn't shake the image of your nightmare from your head. It was horrible.

Once you calmed your breathing to a steady pace, you looked to your right, to see that the guy was staring at you. You didn't like it, it felt like he was pitying you and you hated it when people do it.

You shifted uncomfortably in your seat, trying your best to wipe the sweat from your forehead.

"Um… the- the train stopped. They said it's a technical issue, it will need some time to fix it." He informed you, going back to his seat.

Looking out of the window, you noticed that in fact, the train wasn't moving. "How long was I asleep?" You asked, embarrassed by your shaky voice.

"Um… two hours I would say…" You nodded. Reaching for your backpack to grab a water bottle and drink some from it.

It was cold. You brought your knees to your chest and wrapped your arms around them, swaying back and forth, a failed attempt of warming yourself.

The boy noticed, he didn't know why he was doing it, but he still nonetheless clutched at the blanket that was dropped over his knees.

Should I do it? She's cold. Ugh, what if she thinks I'm a creep too? He thought he was reluctant in his next actions but still progressed in getting up and covering your back with the blanket.

He was about to walk away, but you grabbed his wrist. He immediately yanked you away, which came as a shock to you. "I- I'm sorry, I just wanted to share the blanket with you- I… didn't mean to step on a boundary." You didn't know why but apologizing seemed the best option, seeing as the guy looked extremely uncomfortable.

You frantically stood up, took the blanket off of you, and folded it back cleanly. You placed it down beside him while making sure to keep your distance to not scare him again. He was shaking, you didn't know what to do. Maybe you were disturbing him.

It's not like it matters at which station I get off.

You reached for your backpack, a surge of unexplainable fear rushing over you.

"I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to make you feel uncomfortable I- I'll be going now. Have- have a safe trip." He didn't even look at you, still caught up in his trance.

Clutching your backpack close to your chest, you left the booth and made your way to the exit.

Fortunately for you, the doors were all open and there were even some people out of the train, waiting for it to get fixed while getting some fresh air.

The train had stopped at some station, you didn't know where it was and you certainly didn't want to ask, in fear of people thinking you were dumb.

I'll just have to walk from here.

You put the backpack on your back and with reluctant steps you began your walk. You wanted to get away from people. You noticed that there was some sort of a forest beyond the railway, so you started walking towards it, hoping no one would notice.

Your mind went back to the guy on the train, you wondered what had caused such a reaction. Was it because you touched him? Or because he was mad he gave you his blanket but still felt the need to? Maybe he just hates skinship.

You were now deep into the forest, and you were starting to doubt whether it was a good idea or not. It was so dark, that you could barely see anything. You knew that you were exposed to all kinds of danger, but for some reason, you only went forward.

You suddenly halted, there was someone following you. You could hear the crunching of leaves under their heavy steps. Chills ran down your spine, and thoughts of getting kidnapped or murdered, fill your mind.

You run for your life, and you could tell by the loud thumbing that the person following you was running as well, trying to catch up on you. Tears were forming at the brim of your eyes, which made it even harder to see how blurry your vision was getting. The injuries on your knees were starting to sting, your heart clenched uncomfortably and you prayed to God that whoever was following you would just give up.

"Hey! Hey! Wait, please! It's just me!" You looked back, recognizing the voice. It was the guy from the train.

You stopped running, catching your breath. When he finally caught up on you, he leaned over with his hands on his knees, breathing heavily.

You hugged your body, not sure of what was happening at that exact moment, but not trying to understand either.

I'm tired.

"Why did you run away? You can't be here, it's dangerous. What if- what if a wolf suddenly attacked you?" He asked, frantically moving his hands in the air.

"Why did you follow me then? I thought I was making you uncomfortable?" You said, with a hint of sarcasm at the end. You were kind of irritated by him now, why was he trying to stop you if he didn't even want you to be near him back on the train?

Is he bipolar or something?

"I- um, I apologize about my previous behavior. I don't know what got into me." He said, his head hung low.

You sighed, feeling bad for him. "It's fine. You should go back. Wouldn't want to miss the train right?" You clutched the strings of your backpack preparing to continue your walk.

"I'm sorry again if I did anything wrong. I'll be leaving now." You turned on your heels and started walking away.

Just as you were thinking the guy went back to the station, you heard steps closing in. You rolled your eyes. What does he want now?

The guy fastened his steps, soon walking alongside you.

"I'm not going anywhere." He voiced, fixing the bag on his back.

"Huh?" What did he mean by that?

"I- I was just using the train to get away from the city. I don't have a specific destination." He explained, avoiding looking at you.

So he's like me. There had to be a story behind those chocolate doe eyes of his.

"What's your name?" You asked. If he was going to tag along with your journey, you might as well know his name.

"Peter." He answered, looking at you for only a second before darting his gaze away again. "What's yours?"

"Yn…"

"Where are we going, Yn?"

"I have no idea, Peter."
