Beginning of The End

~Exterior, Near Midnight~

"Are we really sure about this, Kirana?" I stared at the decrepit building standing infront of us. The waning moonlight casts eerie shadows over the broken windows and crumbling pillars that they started looking more and more like *unfriendly ghosts* waiting to pounce. "It doesn't look safe."

She laughed, "Don't go chickening out on me right now. What's the worse that could happen?"

"Famous last words." I shivered, "I'm considering our safety here. The whole place looked like they'd caved in any moment. Besides, what if there's wild beast living in there? It's the oldest building to date in this region."

She stepped forward boldly, "Then I'll be damsel in shining armor saving you duds in distress." Crickets chirped as she finished her sentences.

"Haha. I'm serious." As stupid as it may be, we walked towards the deathtrap anyway, "Vince, you're with me, right?"

He just nodded, prodding and polishing his camera for the umpteenth times. Preparing for the perfect shots, no doubt. No luck.

"Look at the scholarships that we're going to nab from the other students, all because we took several shots of a rumored haunted house. And I assure you, we'd be gone from there and laughing before we know it." She jabbed a finger at the building and I swear, the temperature dropped the more closer we got to the entrance.

Even from afar, the patio entrance doors was wide open and the insides of the building was as dark as night. I squinted to see if there'd be any movements. But of course so far, there were no signs of life. Yet, fear inside me was rising like tides.

And I reminded myself, eyes on the prize. Kirana is right. We take some shots, we get out and nothing ever happened. We wrote reports before one week deadline is up and submit the papers and wait for the glorious scholarships.

Assuming we don't die. Yeah. Haha. Optimist. We reached the front porch, and Kirana turned her flashlight on, as me and Vincent does.

"Ready? Remember to make the shots count. So we can leave as fast as possible and never return here."

"Don't worry." Vincent said.

"I still think we need to back off. Like right now." I hugged my body and focused the flashlight infront.

Kirana sighed, "Too late for that now, don't you think?"

She took a step inside,

And our worst nightmare began.
