"Mum , dad, Jacob and I are engaged". My sister announced while showcasing her diamond ring

Mum and Felicia shouted in excitement while dad kept eating like he didn't hear anything 

Everyone looked at him and he kept eating without saying a word 

Mum tapped on his shoulder " Joshua , your daughter is getting married"

He dropped his fork , cleaned his mouth and he stood up "desire can't get married to her sister's ex boyfriend 

I will only permit the wedding if Ezra brings her own fiancé"

He walked out and went up to his room . Everyone's eyes were fixed on me and I awkwardly said "congratulations Dee'' while trying to leave the dinning quietly, Felicia , who happens to be my rude younger sister stood right in front of me "you made dad say that right ?"

"No, why would I ? We all just found out about Jacob and Dee's engagement". I said 

So what is your plan now ? How do you intend to fix this mess ? Mother asked 

I looked at desire who had a burning gaze on me , waiting to hear what I have to say "we are listening . You created this mess , how will you fix it ?" Desire asked

I felt my anxiety building up , my heart pumping loudly , I stupidly said "I have a fiancé . We got engaged two days ago but I just didn't know the right time to share the news"

"You got engaged ?" 

Immediately I saw him , I blacked out . I woke up in the hospital bed which is nothing new to me 

I heard his voice , he was speaking to the doctor 

"So her anxiety disorder is still that chronic ?" He asked 

Yes, Mr. Martins . I advice she stays in the hospital for a day or two cause she's mentally stressed and worn out

As you can see she hasn't woken up since last night . 

"Thank you doctor". He said 

I heard the door to my hospital room open and I instantly close my eyelids pretending to be asleep 

He sat right beside me and he said while patting my hair "why are you doing this to me Ezra ? Why do you keep asking for pain ?"

He yanked my hair roughly causing me to cry out in pain 

"A fiancé? Who is he !" He shouted while abusively choking me 

I tried speaking , telling him it's all a lie but I couldn't cause then mum will also mess me up when she finds out I lied to her 

I stayed in bed , trying to fight for my dear life as Bryan choked me . The only way out is for someone to come in but no one did 

His hand pressed my hand deeper on the mattress as he smashed his lip aggressively on mine . Biting and sucking my lips angrily 

Tears rolled down my cheeks and I tried pushing him but it always ends up to more punishment and sexual harassment 

I laid there lifeless , weak , just begging God to send me an helper 

The door suddenly opened and he instantly moved . He fixed his shirt and cleaned his lips 

"Was I interrupting something ?" The doctor asked 

"No . I was trying to take out dirt from her eyelid . I will be back in few minutes , I have a meeting to attend to"

Before Bryan left , he gave me a quick deadly glare . The doctor cleared his throat and he handed me a tissue "your lips is bleeding" he says 

I took the tissue and cleaned my lips hurriedly 

"I'm Dr Gerald and I looked through your file . It says you have a growing tumor, brain tumor . Are you aware? "

I nodded "yes ,I asked James to keep it between both of us"

"Don't mean to intrude or anything but you need to tell your family as soon as possible or you will lose your life miss Ezra"

" um…..I don't want a surgery done . I need to die as soon as possible"

He went quiet for a few minutes . I glanced at him 

His face looked pale , curious and sad "Death is no child's play Ezra. do not play with death" he said 

"You don't know anything . Let me do what I want and you focus on treating people okay ?"

He sighed loudly , sat down and went through the file with him one more time 

"Your surgery will be scheduled for next month" 

I instantly sat up , raged and said "you have no right to decide for me . I have nothing 

No family , No friends , No job . All I do is run back to this crazy hospital cause I'm a sick psycho and I have a crazy step brother who makes my life a living hell and a fiancé , where do I get one ? If I live, I will have to find one in other for desire to get married to my boyfriend and I have no one , absolutely no one!"

I covered my face with the palm of my hands . I registered everything I just blurted out to a complete stranger , I wiped my tears and I cleared my throat 

"Please just let me die". 

His face is still emotionless but I could still sense the pity he has for me and I hate pity . Makes me feel weak than I already am 

We stared at each other deeply till the door to my room banged open . I looked at my so called family as they all walked in 

Dr Gerald stood up and watched us . 

"Why does she have to stay back at the hospital?" Father asked 

I looked at the doctor , praying he won't tell them I'm about to die 

"She needs to be examined and we need to run few tests on her before she gets discharged"

Mum walks up to the doctor and she says "you look familiar , I have seen you somewhere"

Desire seductively fixed few strands of her hair behind her ear and whenever she does that , you know she likes that person 

"Hi , I'm desire . Ezra's elder sister". He nodded and it didn't seem to go well with desire 

"You are Gerald Bryson right ?"

Dad glared at him immediately and asked him "Are you king Bryson son ?"

Gerald nodded and dad pulled him for a very tight hug 

We all looked confused cause dad is not one to hug someone this happily "how is king ? Is he also in LA?"

"No he's not" 

Oh! send my greetings to him , tell him ….. 

Dad couldn't complete his words as Bryan came banging the door behind him . My blood instantly started pumping , my heart beating fast while I played with my fingers , looking down the mattress 

Mum rushed to him and she asks him " is everything okay son ?"

"Ezra's fiancé , how nonchalant is he ? His soon to be wife is said to be hospitalized and he's nowhere to be found . Father, we should cut off the engagement" he says 

Everyone looked at him with wide eyes , in shock with what Bryan just said , I choked .

Doctor passed me a glass of water and I gulped it all down in split seconds 

"He might be busy" mum says while gritting her teeth , glaring at me to say something 

I tried creating a lie but nothing is going on in my empty sick brain . I should probably just say the truth 

Well everyone , I didn't mean to tell you like this but ….." I'm her fiancé" Gerald announced 

 "what ?" They all chroused and I instantly started coughing 

Everyone's attention was on me . They all looked curious and ready to hear what I had to say and I honestly had nothing to say . I'm just as shocked as they are 

"The plan was to come see you with my parents but dad has been busy . So we decided to hold on a bit till I heard about her condition 

I couldn't hold back that's why I announced it this way . My apologies"

Ezra , is this true ? Dad asked 

Everyone's eyes were still fixed on me ,not sure what they wanted my reply to be , I Boldly held the doctor 's hand and I said "yes . Gerald and I are engaged"

Then where is your ring ? Felica asked 

Uhmm Good question . My ring 

I looked at Gerald , hoping he has a good answer for this cause I'm blank 

"My family passes on my grandma's ring . We'll get the ring when they arrive in LA". He says 

I smiled at him , impressed by how he just saved us with a concrete lie .

Everyone stayed silent for a few minutes , just until Bryan asked "you just got to LA so how are you guys engaged ?"

Gerald and I stared at each other .he had nothing to say and I also had zero clue on what lie to tell now

Then dad saved us "why does that matter ? They are both in love and they desire to be together for life that's all we care about"

Gerald and I , immediately smiled , we just escaped what was meant to be a big flop 

I looked at Everyone. Desire didn't seem happy , not even a little bit and she made it quiet obvious 

Felicia on the other hand hates me and just wants me out of the house so she's definitely happy I truly have a fiancé while mother , her facial expression is weirdly not understandable. She seems pissed , happy and sad 

I don't have to look at Bryan to know he's pissed . Since I was five , Bryan will tell me "you belong to me . Your body and all that is in you". He truly did mean his words cause he started harassing me when I turned 13 with two small tennis balls on my chest 

Bryan has been sexually harassing me for almost twelve years now and did I ever tell anyone ? I did but no one believed me 

They claimed I'm a disturb tennager seeking attention and that made Bryan never stop 

I tried getting into relationships when I turned eighteen , probably he will back off but he becomes more aggressive when I have a boyfriend 

He hires boys to mess them up and this makes all these boys run from me . When I turned twenty , dad sent Bryan to Paris to a business school and trust me when I say that's the best thing dad ever did for me 

I started getting my life back together . Made few friends and I started dating Jacob ( desire new fiancé ). Jacob and I had the cutest relationship in college and everyone envied us 

I thought I found the right man till I cut him fucking my sister in our dorm room. They actually didn't notice me and did I break up with him after ? No I did not 

I gave him a useless second chance thinking it was probably a drunk mistake or desire successfully seduced him with her tricks but it went on and on 

Desire posting him on her social media with the hashtags "babe and I , my man , I love my man , forever love". And so much more 

I confronted Jacob and all he had to say " she's the better version of you Ezra" 

Foolishly , I thought he would return to me . I left him to have fun around with desire while we both still had the boyfriend and girlfriend title and now they are both engaged , my biggest nightmare (Bryan ) is back 

I get someone to take me out of that prison they call a home , someone who is ready to pretend to be my fiancé , God really does work wonders

I smiled and I said "Gerald and I are so in love and will love for our wedding to happen as soon as possible. Right Gerald ?"

He looked shocked . Probably at how happy I suddenly am and how my voice sounds brighter and stronger 

"Father will be in LA in a few days . We'll come visit when he arrives Mr martins"

Dad smiled , tapping Gerald on his shoulder "sure thing son . As a matter of fact , I would love to see your father. Welcome to the family son"
