Chapter 17

The whole Christmas holidays was over and work begins today. Cass and Michael left immediately after Christmas because of work and mom left after new year. She insisted on staying longer to keep me company but I very well knew that if she eventually left she'd have a lot more work to do plus I may not have time to spend with her once work starts so I had to convince her to leave. It hurt me to see her leave and I really looked forward to spending more time with her but I guess I did the right thing by telling her to go. My house is once again empty, although Chris drops in once in a while, he's been real busy and I wouldn't want to sound demanding.

I got to the office early and got my things prepared and ready for whatever project we had next. I was honestly happy to come back to work after a while because I genuinely love what I do and I know I have a lot passion for it. I love my job even if it stresses and annoys me.

I got a call from the head of the board to meet him in his office. I placed my things on my table and found my way to his office.

I lightly knock on the door as a voice echoes from the inside.

"Come in"

I gracefully walk in and a seat if offered for me to sit.

Damian has always been a nice man and very good at what he does. I personally respect him for who he is. He always makes sure I'm comfortable around him and sometimes we engage in one of the best conversations but we all know our limits.

"Good morning Tina, welcome back, how was the holiday?" He said looking at me with a smile on his face.

"Morning Damian, its good to be back, the holiday was eventful. How's your wife and the kids? Hope you enjoyed your break?" I smiled back at him. He insisted that I called him Damian instead of 'sir' as I was earlier used to referring to him.

"Good. Everyone is doing fine and I guess I enjoyed the holiday, we got a full house" he chuckled and I couldn't help but smile back. He cleared his throat and got serious.

"Umm... Tina I'm very sorry to draw this to your attention as early as now but if you weren't the best at what you did I wouldn't be disturbing you by this time. The project we earlier had with Mr flynn, I'm sure you remember." He paused for a minute to make sure I was listening to him.

"Yes I remember, what about it?"I gave him an irritated look but covered it up with a smile.

" alright I'll go straight to the point, he was very satisfied with his advertisement turn out and he's very happy. He finally concluded the contract and requested we come get from him with our evaluation report."

"Why do you need me? Anyone can do this, Vera is well capable, she's been on my team for a long time and she's good with evaluation presentations" I gave him a worried look hoping he'd understand that I don't want to do it for personal reasons of course.

"I know Tina, but Mr. Flynn is a very hard man to please, he's very tactical, he knows his stuff I must tell you and I wouldn't be disturbing you if I didn't know you could go head to head with him. Please understand this, your name was forwarded my hands are tied." He looked at me with his eye brows creased upward in anticipation.

"Fine but thats all I'm doing on the topic concerning Mr Flynn I expect any other project concerning any other person but him." I half yelled, the anger in me slowly surfacing.

"Alright alright calm down, I'll see what I can do but please do this the way you'd carry out any other task. He has scheduled the meeting for Wednesday so you have the whole of today and tomorrow to prepare. If there's anything else I'll let you know, that should be all, have a wonderful day" he smiled before turning back to his work.

I murmured a 'thank you' as I found my way back to my office.

What a way to start my day.

I had all the negative feelings about this but as he plainly mentioned, I'm the best at what I do and acting as professional as I can I believe will let me finish my task faster.

I slumped on my chair and had a look at a few documents placed on my table by Skyler. I was half way through when a call came in, it was Chris, a warm smile slowly crept my lips as I stared at his name. Chris and I we've hardly dated long, we're almost two weeks into this relationship but I fall in love with him more and more each passing day, he's just the sweetest.

I answered the call with a smile plastered on my face.

"Hi beautiful" he said in an amused tone. I couldn't help blushing at his compliment, to think I'd get used to it but I guess not.

"Hey baby how's work?"

"Uh..works good, I just wanted to hear your voice, I have a meeting now take care of yourself alright?" I chuckled at how sweet he's become. We had a very long conversation earlier this morning, I didnt think he'd call again so early.

"Alright, I'm fine, you take care of yourself too, I'll talk to you later"

"Bye, I love you"

"Bye "

"Now tell me you love me too, don't get me angry now" I started laughing like crazy, he always sounded real funny when he pretended to be angry.

"Get your ass out of my phone you creep" he chuckled

"Thats what I get for wanting an 'I love you' from my girlfriend, then fine" he sounded hurt but I could hear the amusement in his voice and I just laughed again.

"You are definitely going to be late for your meeting, bye babe, I love you"

"Thats more like it, talk to you later" And just like that he hung up. I'm sure he did that so I won't say anything.

I resumed with my work as I placed the once I had done neatly in a different folder. I was about calling Skyler to come pick the folders up when another call came in. I checked the ID and it was an unknown number, I didn't want to pick at first but decided last minute.

"Hello good morning, am I speaking to Miss Christiana Starstone?" The voice of a man echoed through the speaker.

"Umm...yes it is, who am I speaking with please?" Confusion evident in my voice, I didnt recall giving my number to anybody lately.

"This is doctor Jessie Arnold from Mainland hospital, you were admitted here a few months back and I was your doctor. We have been undergoing a few researches based on your test results and we've spotted something unusual going on in your brain, I've booked an appointment for tomorrow and if you can make that will be great" he spoke with so much professionalism in his voice.

"Uh...alright I'll be there thank you doctor" I barely got those words out.

"Alright thank you miss, see you tomorrow then, have a lovely day" he hung up right after that.

I sat there in confusion and my curiosity eating me up bit by bit.

What could be wrong with me?
