Through the sand table, the spectators could see that more and more Divine Guards of the Second Corps were dying from the hail of ranged attacks. The Divine Guards of the Second Corps were unusually indifferent to the lives of their comrades. They did not care about their fellow soldiers.
It was because of this selfishness and utter disregard for their comrades that those Second Corps Divine Guards who could have easily escaped with minor injuries ended up with serious injuries and death!
None of them had any regard for their comrades. They had no team spirit!
Ralph's face grew darker and darker. He had put his Divine Guards through an extremely cruel training that had created no trust between them. There was no unity between them, let alone teamwork!
Once their Achilles heel was exposed, the Second Corps began to disintegrate rapidly. With Bollands having received this special instruction from Han Shuo, he calmly passed on more and more merciless orders, sending heavier and denser attacks, greatly increasing the casualties of the Second Corps!
"Fascinating, how fascinating!" exclaimed Aobashi. She looked at Ralph with cold eyes and sneered, "Your training has not made them divine guards, but a bunch of mindless beasts! While it is true that they have superior strength and are not afraid of death, they know nothing about teamwork or helping each other. The battle is lost before it begins!"
Wallace turned to look at Ralph, his eyebrows furrowed in silence. For the first time in history, he had doubts about Ralph and his method of training.
The battle continued...
The Divine Guardians of the Second Corps were indeed powerful and brave. Not a single Divine Guard showed any sign of surrendering to the Fifth Corps' barrage of fierce attacks. They continued to charge towards the Divine Essences of the Fifth Corps, bravely and without fear of death. At this moment, Sanguis and Gilbert were battling Kiffan and five divine guards from the Second Corps.
Kiffan and his five divine guards tried to harm Sanguis and Gilbert at the cost of wounding themselves. Their cold eyes were fixed on Sanguis and Gilbert as they tried to kill him. Each of their attacks was meant to take life. They had forgotten all rules of engagement.
Sanguis and Gilbert were no saints either. They had clearly heard Bolland's order and knew of Han Shuo's intentions. Like Kiffan and his men, Sanguis and Gilbert used deadly force in every strike. The two forces were evenly matched and neither side had the upper hand for the moment.
None of the divine guards of the Second Corps could break through the defensive barrier set up by Bollands and his divine guards of the Fifth Corps. Those who attempted to charge forward were met with increasingly fierce and dense attacks. Those brave but foolish souls would end up injured or killed.
The Divine Guards of the Fifth Corps remained well coordinated as the battle wore on. They continued to attack methodically, as Bollands had instructed, to inflict maximum damage. The Second Corps was unable to break through the Fifth Corps defence. The longer the battle went on, the more disadvantaged Second Corps became. Serious injuries and casualties began to mount.
Given the circumstances, it was clear to any fool that the best thing Second Corps could do was to retreat and abandon their Divine Essences, for resistance would be futile.
But that thought never entered their minds. Even though it was clear that the Second Corps company would lose, none of the divine guards retreated. They continued to advance recklessly, with no regard for their own lives.
As a result, more Second Corps Divine Guards were injured. The casualties had far exceeded any quota!
"Ralph, you should order your men to retreat," Andre said in a clear and stern voice. Looking at Ralph with a solemn face, he added, "If you let them go on, you will lose all your elite divine guards!"
"No! They have not lost yet!" replied Ralph loudly, his face stubborn and desperate.
By now, everyone could see that the Second Corps was on the back foot. Their fighting strength was dwindling as casualties mounted.
The Fifth Corps, on the other hand, was still going strong and full of energy. It seemed as if the outcome was preordained!
Perhaps Ralph had never considered defeat as an option. He was still unwilling to give up or admit defeat, even though the situation was clear.
"You deserved it," Carmelita remarked. She then raised her head and smiled at Han Shuo. She seemed very pleased.
Wallace could not bear to watch the carnage any longer and ordered in a deep and loud voice, "Ralph, order your men to retreat.
Ralph was Wallace's most loyal dog. He listened to no one, but followed every word Wallace said. Although it was clear from his face that he was reluctant to do so, Ralph took out a magical message crystal and connected with Kiffan. Under the eyes of the crowd, he ordered Kiffan to stop the futile attacks.
"What a bunch of crazy beasts!" Bollands breathed a sigh of relief as he saw the savage Second Corps halt their charge. If they were allowed to continue, they could end up wiping out the entire company of Second Corps Divine Guards, which Bollands suspected could cause Han Shuo great trouble.
"Fuckers, why are you cowering all of a sudden? Keep fighting me if you have the guts!" Gilbert cursed and yelled as he saw the Second Corps suddenly surrender. He wasn't happy that he hadn't scored any kills yet.
Of the hundred strong company of the Second Corps, less than thirty were completely unharmed. Twenty of them had been killed. The rest were at least slightly injured. In contrast, only ten of the divine guards of the Fifth Corps suffered minor injuries. None were seriously injured or killed. Their combat strength remained basically the same as before the battle began.
It was clear which team was stronger!
After examining the casualties on both sides, the crowd once again stared at Han Shuo in astonishment. They had never imagined that the Fifth Corps possessed such terrifying team combat strength!
"I think there is no need to continue the competition," Aobashi forced a smile and said to Wallace, "The First Corps is obviously no match for Bryan's Divine Guards."
After watching the competition for some time, Aobashi had a rough idea of the Fifth Corps' true strength. Against the perfect team coordination of the Fifth Corps, the Second Corps was like an egg smashed against a rock. Aobashi did not think that her Divine Guards were better than the Second Corps in team combat. She thought that since the outcome was obvious, she might as well save time and surrender.
The only team in the arena that had not fought against another team was the First Corps. All the other six companies had shown their strength in battle and it was clear to the spectators where they stood. With Aobashi now surrendering, it meant that the Fifth Corps had won the competition!
The crowd could not deny the overwhelming strength of the Fifth Corps. Without a word of protest, Wallace nodded and agreed to Aobashi's surrender. In a loud and deep voice, he announced, "I hereby declare that the team competition is now over. The Fifth Corps wins!"
"Thank you, thank you!" Han Shuo nodded to each person in the crowd with a broad smile as a gesture of courtesy. When it was Ralph's turn, Han Shuo's smile became even bigger and more cheerful. He laughed heartily and said, "My apologies, Lord Ralph. It seems that my subordinates are a bit stronger than yours!"
Ralph's face looked as if someone had stomped on it. With the mocking eyes of his rivals taunting him, Ralph could not have wished for anything more than to charge forward and fight Han Shuo on the spot. But with great difficulty, he managed to suppress his impulse. He slowly nodded at Han Shuo and said, "I will make you regret this in the competition between the chiefs!"
Han Shuo's eyes became even more cheerful. He calmly replied, "Excellent, I also look forward to having a real fight with you!"
"Bryan!" Wallace suddenly shouted. With a rather displeased face, he glared at Han Shuo and asked, "So many of the Divine Guards of the Second Corps have died. How do you justify that?"
"They are accidents!" Han Shuo replied immediately. With an innocent face, he explained, "Lord Andre just said it. It is the Divine Guards of the Second Corps who let their own comrades die. It has nothing to do with us!"
"The first few may have been accidents, but after the first few, not only did your divine guards not show restraint, they began to attack even more ferociously because of their weakness. Are those accidents too?" Wallace retorted loudly with a dark face.
"Um... this... that..." Han Shuo was at a loss for words and did not know what to say.
"Elder brother, you cannot completely blame Bryan for this. The Second Corps has always been very fierce and brutal towards their opponents. They have no fear of death and are willing to sacrifice their lives for victory. If Bryan's subordinates let their guard down, the Second Corps will probably be able to break through their defences. And once they do, they will be merciless to Bryan's men. Therefore, the Divine Guards of the Fifth Corps have no choice but to fight as hard as they can!" Andre pleaded for Han Shuo. He had always thought very highly of Han Shuo, and he also disliked Ralph.
After hearing Andre's words, Rugersey, Camilla , Erebus, Aobashi, Batúk, and even the three major patriarchs stated their opinions. Their general message was that the Fifth Corps may have been a little rash but they did nothing wrong. Not a single one of them sided with Ralph's divine guards. Ralph constantly swept his sinister and cold gaze across the crowd as he stood alone in the corner.
Han Shuo may be wearing a forced smile but in his mind, he was laughing madly. He thought, <i >Served you right, Ralph! That's what you get for being such a dick to everyone!
With so many people pleading for Han Shuo, considering that the Goddess of Destiny had a good impression on Han Shuo, Wallace decided not to hand any punishment. In the end, Wallace only chided Han Shuo a few words. He asked Han Shuo to be more cautious next time and not be so savage to the fellow divine guards of the City.
Han Shuo was a tactful person. He repeatedly nodded and said yes, claiming that he will scold his subordinates heavily for it.
And so the matter was concluded.
Under Wallace's instruction, Andre sent messengers to the arena and announced that the competition was over. As a reward for the divine guard, Wallace did not take back the divine essences, but declared that the finders could keep them.
Soon all the companies in the arena heard the news. As the crowd watched, they formed into lines and left the arena for their respective campsites.
Although the team competition had already been completed, Wallace did not bring forward the competition between the chiefs. He ordered the crowd to disperse and that the competition between the Divine Guard Chiefs would take place as planned in three days' time.
The crowd dispersed and went their separate ways. Some were happy, some were disappointed. As the Divine Guard Chiefs left, Wallace suddenly glanced at Ralph and nodded slightly.
Ralph did not leave, but stood there in silence. He knew Wallace had words for him.
