CHAPTER 685: Too Dumb To Be A Godhunter

Han Shuo was able to roughly figure out what was going on right after listening to the woman's explanation. Those scrolls that Rahman was secretly distributing had to be producing results. Surely, some of them couldn't resist the temptation and consumed the divine energy of other Destruction Edict cultivators.

Han Shuo had stayed in his training field all this time and had not released any mystical demons to investigate the situation in Fort Verka. However, from the fact that the House of Croton had mobilised large forces to investigate everyone who was cultivating the Destruction Edict, Han Shuo could tell that the situation must have gone bad.

Han Shuo thought about this for a moment in silence. Since he was rather curious as to how they would investigate, he decided to leave the training ground with this woman.

Han Shuo then spotted several other Energy of Edict of Destruction cultivators waiting right outside. They were not wearing the unique divine guardian armour, so he figured that they must be suspects to be investigated like him.

"Come with us. We just want to ask you a few questions. It will not take up too much of your time," the woman with the fiery red long hair said after leading Han Shuo to the rest of the suspects.

"Miss Eunice, what is going on at Fort Verka? Why have we been hearing strange, wretched screams at night lately? Are the Godhunters launching a large-scale invasion?" a rude, bulky man asked the red-haired woman worriedly.

The red-haired Eunice glanced at the few Lowgods of destruction and replied in a cold voice, "This is Fort Verka. Under the guardianship of my House of Croton, how could Godhunters have the audacity to attack this place so openly? Hmph, but I can tell you that there are indeed some godhunters in the fort, and they could be standing next to you right now!"

Han Shuo sneered in his heart after hearing Eunice's answer. After eavesdropping on Rahman's conversation earlier, he knew that Rahman did not consider House of Croton a threat at all. In fact, that was why Rahman had decided to strike at Fort Verka. Eunice was supposed to be a member of the House of Croton. It seemed she had no idea how much trouble they were up against.

"Miss Eunice is right. The Godhunters wouldn't be so brazen as to attack this fort openly!" a third person chimed in. He announced in a righteous tone, "Those Godhunters are truly disgusting, horrible beings. They better hope they don't meet me, or I, Lexis, will surely give them hell."

Stop bragging, you'd be lucky to stay alive against one of them. One of the deceased was a late-stage Lowgod. You have only recently advanced to the Mid-stage Lowgod Realm. You are nothing more than prey to them," Eunice sneered. Lexis let out a hollow laugh, rather embarrassed. He made no reply and seemed afraid of Eunice.

"What?!" the burly man exclaimed in surprise, "Even a late-stage Lowgod was murdered?"

"That's right. Each and every one of you better be very careful. Don't be so arrogant as to think you can handle one on your own. If you meet a suspicious person, the best thing to do is to shout at the top of your lungs. The Divine Guardians are on heavy patrol and can come to your aid very quickly," Eunice replied. After a short pause, she added, "But before that, I need to make sure that you are all innocent. If any of you are found to be Godhunters, no matter who you are, I will kill you with my own hands!"

After hearing these words, those who knew of Eunice's identity and strength became completely silent, as if they were very afraid of this red-haired woman.

"Miss Eunice, the other team has finished their investigation. We should proceed there now," a divine guard standing beside Eunice poked a miniature compass-like device on his left wrist and said to her.

"Everyone come with me. If any of you try to leave in the middle, I will consider that person a godhunter and they will be killed on the spot. You all better behave!" Eunice waved her hand and led the group towards the centre of Fort Verka. The few suspects, including Han Shuo, followed behind her without making a sound.

Soon, Eunice and the group arrived at the largest training ground in Fort Verka. This training ground was under the management of the House of Croton. It was vast and contained a complete set of facilities.

After entering the training ground, Han Shuo discovered that there were around seventy people in this place. The majority of them were cultivating under the Edict of Destruction. Most of those who did not cultivate in the Edict of Destruction were divine guards under the House of Croton.

"Uncle Barnett, how is it going?" Eunice asked upon arrival, walking over to a thin, tall, middle-aged man with a thick beard on his face.

"We haven't found anything. Strange, really," Barnett sighed. His eyes darted back and forth between Han Shuo and the others.

"Let's test this pile and see how it goes," Eunice also sighed quietly and replied. She turned to Han Shuo and the others and shouted, "Line up and perform the test one by one. This device can test if the divine energy in your body is pure. Once you have demonstrated that there is no impurity in your divine energy, you may leave!"

The divine energy absorbed from another person would not immediately merge with the recipient's divine energy; it would take some time to fully merge. Before that could happen, the person's divine energy would contain impurities. Han Shuo was aware of this fact. He looked at the miniature energy tower that Barnett had placed on the table and after a moment of sensing, he understood that the device could directly absorb divine energy and display its purity.

One by one, the group placed their hands on the energy tower and injected a strand of their divine energy into it. After receiving the divine energy, the energy tower would glow with a faint white light if the divine energy was clean and had no impurities.

The few people who had taken the test before Han Shuo had all passed the test with the energy tower emitting a faint white light. When it was Han Shuo's turn, he proceeded calmly and unhurriedly. With a faint smile on his face, he placed his hand on the power tower and inserted a strand of his divine energy.

The energy tower, which had been glowing with a faint white light, suddenly flickered. The white light gradually turned grey as well.

Han Shuo was stunned. Before he could explain anything, Barnett and Eunice shouted "Godhunter!

Their shouts were deafening in the quiet of the drill ground. Every pair of eyes on the training ground immediately focused on Han Shuo. Barnett and Eunice surrounded Han Shuo in a well-coordinated move. The divine guards in the distance also quickly gathered around him. Han Shuo suddenly found himself completely surrounded.

"How did this happen? Didn't you tell me that all impurities had been removed from the Avatar of Destruction?" Han Shuo hastily transmitted to Cauldron Spirit to find out what was going on.

After two seconds, Cauldron Spirit replied, "Your avatar definitely does not have any impurities. Your avatar was formed using the Demonslayer's Edge, and the weapon still contains your blood essence. It must be because of the blood essence that the damn stone is glowing."

Han Shuo came to his senses immediately after hearing the Cauldron Spirit's explanation. This avatar of his was indeed formed from the Demonslayer's Edge. The blood essence of a demonic arts cultivator that the Demonslayer Edge contained was extremely unique. Therefore, it was expected that the energy tower would detect Han Shuo's divine energy as impure.

Han Shuo had not anticipated this situation at all, and that was why he had felt so comfortable putting a strand of his divine energy into the testing device. Who knew that he would end up making such a huge mistake.

After talking to the Cauldron Spirit, Han Shuo found himself heavily surrounded. Barnett and Eunice had dark faces as they stared at Han Shuo. Barnett asked in a cold voice, "How many accomplices do you have? As long as you cooperate with us, I will grant you a more comfortable death."

"This is a misunderstanding, a big misunderstanding!" Han Shuo forced a smile and explained. He did not know whether to laugh or cry as he looked at the divine guards that formed a few layers around him.

"The evidence is undeniable. This cannot be a mistake!" Eunice shouted coldly. "In the past few months, a total of thirteen Edict of Destruction cultivators have been killed by having their divine energy drained. The tower has shown that your destructive divine energy is not pure. How can this be a misunderstanding?"

"Kill him! Kill that damned godhunter!"

"Miss Eunice, kill him in the cruelest way possible. It is his gang that murdered my wife!"

"My brother died for them!"

Everyone on the training ground glared at Han Shuo in anger. Some of the people who had lost their family and friends to the Godhunters even rushed towards Han Shuo with pure vengeance. If not for the divine guards holding them back, they would have tried to kill Han Shuo.

Han Shuo could feel the anger of everyone around him. It was now that he truly realised why the Godhunters always did things in secret and stayed away from major cities. He knew that if he didn't give a good explanation and exonerate himself immediately, he might not be able to leave this training ground. Even if he escaped using demonic arts, with the presence of the Divine Tablets, he wouldn't have to think about gaining a foothold on Elysium.

"I can assure you, this is a misunderstanding," Han Shuo explained to the angry crowd with a bitter smile.

"Youngster, you have been exposed and there is nothing to discuss. If you want to do it the hard way, I can kill you slowly and extract every little secret from your soul!" Barnett, a Midgod cultivating in the energy of death, said as he sneered grimly.

"I'm not a Godhunter!" Han Shuo said with a bitter smile.

"Then how do you explain the anomaly on the power tower?" Eunice was becoming impatient and seemed ready to strike at any moment.

"I cultivate in two energies, and my body contains two types of divine energy. That's why it gave a false alarm!" Han Shuo hastily explained. He immediately transferred the divine energy of his death avatar to form a Domain of Divinity around him. Then, after a short while, he changed the Domain of Divinity from the energy of death to the energy of destruction.

Every single person in the crowd gasped and looked up and down at Han Shuo with strange looks. Barnett also gestured for his divine guards to disperse.

"I really did not expect that someone would be as stupid as you to cultivate in two energies at the same time. Not only will you get nowhere with your cultivation, but if you make a mistake, the two energies will collide and you will die in no time," Eunice said to Han Shuo while looking at him like an idiot. Shortly after, she turned to Barnett and said, "Uncle, someone as stupid as him cannot be a Godhunter, right?"

"He's definitely not!" Barnett nodded and agreed with Eunice. He then said to Han Shuo, "Alright, you may go!"

Han Shuo smiled speechlessly.

He was about to return to his training ground and continue his research on the Orb of Destruction when he suddenly discovered that Rahman had brought some people with him. Just like Han Shuo, these people had previously read the special scroll from his shop.
