"Master Fanny and Bryan, what are you two doing?" Lisa called from behind them, looking at them suspiciously.
"No, nothing." Fanny glared at Han Shuo and pointed her finger in the direction of her lab before turning and walking inside.
When she held out her hand, the space ring that Han Shuo had given her was prominently displayed on her hand. Han Shuo was filled with joy after just one look at it. He knew that Fanny had already accepted the ring. She pointed in the direction of the lab, obviously telling him to wait for her there.
He hadn't planned to stay anyway, and he smiled foolishly as he nodded to Fanny. Then he left on his own and went to her laboratory.
After waiting there for a while, Fanny returned to the lab after finishing her lesson in the training field. She opened the door to let Han Shuo in and asked him with her usual expression, "All right, what do you want?"
Although Fanny was acting normal, both of them knew that their relationship had undergone a subtle change. It was basically impossible for Fanny to maintain the dignity of a teacher in front of Han Shuo.
Grinning cheekily at Fanny, Han Shuo sneered, "Don't be so serious!"
Rolling her eyes at Han Shuo in a bad mood, Fanny said, "I have to be serious with you, otherwise you will shine so brightly when I give you the slightest bit of warmth and your hands and feet will get naughty."
How were these ambiguous tones those of a teacher to a pupil? It was practically a flirtatious game between lovers. Han Shuo still felt satisfied in his heart even though Fanny was staring at him.
Although he was pleased, Han Shuo's willpower had been tempered many times and he was not someone who didn't know what was truly important. He paused for a moment and then began to ask Fanny about all the difficulties in magic theory he'd encountered lately.
Seeing that Han Shuo was asking questions, Fanny also became solemn as she regained her teacher's posture. She carefully explained all the theories in detail to Han Shuo. When she saw how diligent Han Shuo was, and that he could even use the Journeyman Magic of Bone Prison now, Fanny was happier than even Han Shuo.
She sighed after a while, "With your skills, it looks like you'll be able to become an Adept soon. I need to think for a moment before answering the questions you're asking now, and I can't just answer off the top of my head like I did before. It looks like I won't be able to teach you any more.
A good student would give the teacher an incomparable sense of accomplishment. But since Han Shuo had indeed progressed too quickly, this put Fanny under some pressure. After all, she was only an adept magician, and according to the division of powers and levels, she was only one level higher than Han Shuo.
Han Shuo's rate of improvement was beyond her imagination. If things continued at the current rate, Fanny's influence over Han Shuo was becoming weaker and weaker. This made it difficult for Fanny to bear when this feeling penetrated her heart, but she was still rather resigned to it.
"Hehehe, no matter what happens, you'll always be the Master Fanny who brought me in and set me on the right path. Hehe, even if our relationship changes in the future, your identity as my teacher will never change." Han Shuo's brain was working quite fast at the moment and he could more or less guess her current thoughts from the changes in her expression. He immediately addressed her with a smile.
Shaking her head with a slight sigh, Fanny's beautiful eyebrows immediately furrowed and she spoke in a worried tone. "At our Babylon Academy, Gene and I are the only two teachers of Necromancy. We're only experienced magicians. If you learn all of our knowledge and then have no one to teach you, your rate of improvement will surely be hindered. That's what worries me the most!"
"You think too much. When that day really comes, there may even be a better way to solve things. You don't need to worry so much right now." Han Shuo could clearly feel Fanny's concern for him. However, with the existence of the Cemetery of Death, Han Shuo believed that as his strength improved, he'd be able to make it to the further depths of the Cemetery of Death. He could vaguely sense that the inner depths of the Cemetery of Death would have ways to help him become even stronger.
Fanny seemed to be thinking about Han Shuo's speech and nodded with a smile. "Maybe you're right, I do think too much. Well, it's getting late. Go practice your magic if you have nothing else to do. I'll get something to eat, too."
"How about we go out for dinner together?" Han Shuo's heart fluttered as he made this cheeky suggestion.
"Humph. Dream on. I will have nothing to do with you until you become an adept mage. Hm, hurry and leave now. You'll never get anywhere if you stay here." Fanny smiled and waved a staff in her hand, trying to get Han Shuo to leave.
Han Shuo was in no hurry either as he yelped in response and backed towards the door. Just as he was about to be swept out of the lab, he suddenly moved like lightning and kissed Fanny, laughing merrily as he made his escape from Fanny's embarrassment.
"Damned boy, I'll get you one day!" Fanny said angrily as she slammed the lab door with an audible clang.
At that moment, something registered in Han Shuo's mind as he suddenly heard a low panting sound. Three Original Demons suddenly flew out without a sound and floated towards the source of the sound.
Earth Rider Clark was hiding by a fence post in the distance, his originally handsome features distorted by anger. He was staring at Han Shuo with a look of hatred, and Han Shuo was quite familiar with that kind of look. That was how Fitch had looked at him before he'd taken his revenge.
His heart chilled, Han Shuo suddenly felt that this was a bit tricky. Clark was an earth rider, and Han Shuo had seen the power of his strength before. Even though Han Shuo's power had made great leaps forward, he was well aware of his limitations and knew that he couldn't take on Clark alone. It was a bit difficult to be hated by such a character.
Privately, Han Shuo weighed up solutions to take care of him and slowly walked towards the dormitory. The earth rider, Clark, followed close behind him and only left silently after Han Shuo had entered the dormitory. Through his observation of the original demons, Han Shuo could clearly see the expression on Clark's face and knew that Clark would not take things lying down.
With his strength as an earth rider and the methods he had shown in the Dark Forest, Han Shuo believed that if Clark were to make a move against Han Shuo, he wouldn't try hidden tricks like that boy Fitch. It was likely that once Clark started, he would unleash an attack as unyielding as a thunderbolt, giving him absolutely no chance to come back. With Clark's strength and confidence, he would never leave anyone alive.
Clark and Claude were brothers, so their personalities were very similar. They were both people who appeared open and full of sunshine on the surface, but were characters filled with darkness on the inside. Han Shuo had realised this a long time ago and had been on the lookout for them in private.
Han Shuo didn't stay in the dormitory that night, but hid in the old warehouse and placed an original demon in the dormitory. He wanted to see if Clark would use this opportunity to deal him a devastating blow.
The warehouse was as messy and dirty as usual, with all sorts of useless items shoved in there, only to be cleaned by Borg and Carey in the morning. Now that Han Shuo was tall, muscular and more than twice his original size, the warehouse was a bit of a tight fit for him, but for security reasons he had to do it anyway.
When all was quiet in the middle of the night, Han Shuo would silently meditate to focus his mental strength. As he remained mentally alert, his entire body seemed to merge with the colour of the night. His breathing and heartbeat slowed to an astonishing pace. If it weren't for the fact that heat remained in his body, bystanders would have thought he was a dead man.
The speed of his meditation was much faster than before. Although Han Shuo had been mentally prepared for this phenomenon, when he felt that the speed of his mental power concentration was much faster than before, and that his mental power was replenishing at an astonishing rate, he finally understood that the level of his mental power training had surely surpassed that of ordinary mages.
After who knew how long, as the frosty night was about to pass, the original demons finally discovered Clark's body, just when Han Shuo felt that he'd overreacted and Clark wouldn't stop by. Unlike the Dark Mantle or any other nightwalker, Clark wasn't hiding at all. He was still wearing the clothes he had worn during the day, but his face looked a little overcast. He strode in from a distance, not attracting anyone's attention.
When he reached the window of the room where Han Shuo lived, Clark dashed forward and jumped up, flying through the air and landing skilfully in Han Shuo's room.
"Although I have no concrete proof, the disappearance of my younger brother Claude must have something to do with you. Don't think I'm being too harsh, it's just that you're too annoying. You'll disappear after today and Fanny will never find any trace of you, even if she searches. Clark muttered to himself as he landed through the window and sprang forward, stabbing downward with his sword.
Han Shuo had used some of the pillows in the cupboard to make up his bed and made it look like someone was sleeping there. So when Clark stabbed downwards and even made a faint sound with his sword, it gave him the feeling that something was wrong. Clark pulled back the blanket to see that there were only pillows inside. His face changed slightly.
He just stared into space for a moment and immediately put things back the way they were. He left the room in a flash, seeming to plan to return the way he had come.
Just at that moment, the original demons patrolling the area suddenly felt the presence of another person approaching. This person was like a shadow in the night, his body almost glued to the wall of the classroom building, watching Clark's actions from a distance.
Han Shuo had thought that this person was in cahoots with Clark, but when the person surreptitiously followed Clark after he left, Han Shuo immediately understood that this person's target must be Clark. He was greatly startled, as he had not thought that so many random, bizarre things would happen at the Academy.
When he saw Clark and this person running in the direction of the Knight School, Han Shuo was scared to death that the original demons wouldn't be able to see everything clearly because they had to keep their distance. He immediately rushed out of the camp and kept an extremely large distance between the two, watching them through the original demons.
As the original demon followed them back to the Knight's School, Han Shuo discovered that Clark had entered one of the rooms and sat there without speaking. This room was where Clark had once spoken to Duke. It seemed that this was where Clark lived now.
The shadow that had been following Clark made its way here and stood in the distance for a while after seeing Clark enter a room. Then it silently made its way in another direction into the Knight's School.
He sent one original demon to stay in Clark's room and had another one watch the area. The third original demon followed the shadow,
and tried to gather more information about it.
After a short time, the shadow made its way to an isolated room in the Knights' School, lifted a few tiles from the roof and leapt into the room from above.
"You've come back." Lawrence sat in the dimly lit room, a cup of hot tea in his hand, and spoke softly to the shadow that had landed from the roof.
Han Shuo was very surprised. He hadn't thought that the shadow's final destination would be Lawrence's room. As the son of a great finance minister of the Empire, Lawrence had actually bought black iron ore from him some time ago. Han Shuo had even argued with Lawrence and had some goodwill towards this person. To think that he'd sent someone to follow Clark!
Han Shuo suddenly thought of Candide's words to him when he'd first arrived in the Dark Mantle. Candide had said that Lawrence's identity was unusual and had reminded him that if Han Shuo walked too closely with Lawrence, it could result in an enormous amount of trouble. Candide had wanted to talk more about Lawrence's identity, but didn't say anything more.
When Han Shuo saw this scene, he immediately understood that Lawrence's identity wasn't as simple as just being the son of a great finance minister. The son of a finance minister would not warrant such a reminder from one of the three heavyweights of the Dark Mantle.
"Yes, Clark went to the Necromancy dormitory after leaving his room and slipped into one of the rooms. He seemed to be trying to kill one of the students. However, I saw him walk out with a dejected look on his face and didn't hear any sounds of struggle. He probably didn't find who he was looking for. The shadowy figure replied.
Lawrence was suddenly interested as he looked at the shadowy figure. "Oh, that's a bit strange. Right, tell me which room did Clark enter?"
As the shadow described the location of Han Shuo's room, Lawrence was taken aback and then smiled mysteriously, "So he was going to make a move against Bryan. Heh heh, this is interesting. Very interesting indeed. Looks like I need to sit down with Bryan for a good chat.
