Just Some Side Character

While her brother was still a little skeptical at first, it just took a little coarsening for him to finally believed her. He looked at her with pity and sighed.

"Exactly how much do you remember, I can try to explain somethings but it really will take a while."

"I don't really remember much, I'm sorry." Andi said feeling a bit guilty for having to have this young boy explain everything to her.

"well, eat your food before it gets too cold and I'll explain while you do"

He handed the tray of food to Andi and then took a seat on the side of the bed. Though it took a while he managed to explain all the important parts of Andrea's life to her. Andrea grew up in the slightly smaller kingdom of Biethmark. It was a Kingdom that was bordered by other three other countries and covered in farm land. She lived near the royal castle with her parents. When she was seven she met Princess Stella. The princess often escaped from her guards to play and Andrea became fast friends with her. Soon after the princess insisted on her being hired at the castle. Andrea's parents were forced to let her live in the castle and become the princess's maid. While she was a maid in title, she was more or less a playmate for the princess. Because of that she followed the princess around and was often bullied by the rich and noble children of the Kingdom. The princess would defend her when she saw it happening making Andrea feel that the princess was her true friend despite the social gap between them. When Andrea was eleven her parents died in a fire leaving behind her one year old brother, Elliot. She wasn't allowed to leave the castle often so she had hardly met her brother and she hadn't seen much of her parents before they passed away. She felt guilty and sad about not having been able to see her parents before they died, so she made a promise to take good care of her brother in their place. From then on, she began to raise her brother in the castle with her.

When the princess turned fifteen she went to marry the prince of a larger bordering country called Atheria. From what Elliot knew the princess was originally engaged to the first prince of the country Kaden. When Kaden was thirteen his mother was accused of trying to kill the second prince and his mother and as such was sentenced to death. After that Kaden was stripped of his right to the crown and then locked himself in his courtyard. He hasn't been seen in public for six years now and many rumors about him have spread, most saying that he was practicing dark magic to get revenge. The second prince, Kalab, became the successor of the throne from then on. He was known to be a bright, nice, fair and strong young prince. Many people in the country liked him and thought of him as the ideal prince. Princess Stella was against the arranged marriage, even more so when it was suddenly changed from the first prince to the second one, that was until she met Kalab. Prince Kalab and Princess Stella fell in love at first sight and had a fairy tale romance. Stella brought Andrea with her as her maid when she moved countries to marry the prince.

Elliot didn't lie when he said it was a lot to talk about. Andi let the story sink in. She could help but think that she was having a weird dream from reading to many novels. But what really upset her was that even in her dreams she was just some side character, childhood friend. Wouldn't people normally be the main character of their dreams, shouldn't she be the princess that got the prince?

She sighed and looked around the room, shouldn't she live in the royal castle since she was a maid. Was this small, worn down room really part of the castle?

"Elliot, are we in the castle right now?"

"oh, I forgot to tell you that part. We don't live in the castle anymore. The prince blames you for the princess constant reckless behavior and so he wanted to separate the two of you. Originally, he wanted to fire you and send you back to our homeland but since you and the princess are so close he just made it so we couldn't live in the castle. We found a small house near the castle so it's easy for you to go to work."

Andi bite her tongue but she really wanted to ask how it was her fault that the idiotic princess was irresponsible and put herself in danger.

Seeing his sisters aggrieved looks Elliot sighed and continued.

"That was before at least, now I don't know if you can even keep your job. The princess snuck out again and almost got ran over this time. Even though she didn't get hurt and you did, the prince made a huge deal out of it and I heard he wants to ban you from the castle."

"What!? How does that make sense! I saved the princess and I get blamed??"

"Sister, the princess is a princess, no matter what she does the prince would never blame her. We should be glad she's not hurt otherwise you would be in a lot more trouble."

Andi couldn't believe how unfair this world was. How was a maid supposed to stop a princess from doing what she wanted? Even though Andi saved the princesses life she was considered a bad influence that was a harm to the princess while the princess who caused the whole situation by escaping her guards was most likely viewed as brave and adventurous. What type of favoritism was this? Why did the Andrea of this world put up with all this?!
