I Never Have

Demyan

I stood outside Malia's bedroom door and rested my head against the cold wood. I could hear her cry from the inside. Her parents were with mine in the kitchen, both looking like they had the weight of the world on their shoulders.

If I could I would have stayed outside by the pond until I had the answers to the universe but I did not and all I wanted to do was comfort her. I opened the door without asking her, to find her laid out on the bed dressed in fluffy pyjamas, her hair a mess and her body tightly hugged her elephant plush as she cried.

Her sobs shook her body and my heart fell. I quickly closed the door behind me then climbed onto the bed. She looked up to me, face swollen and blotchy. I hugged her and she cried even more.
