Chapter 78

Toby’s POV

All goes quiet when we enter the dining hall. I feel Rae stiffen a bit as every eye turns toward her. I grab a tighter hold on her hand so that she remembers that I am here. She glances up and smiles at me, brightening my whole world. The world stops spinning as she seems to glow.

Someone’s fork hitting their plate shook off the effects. I can feel my face heat up. I turn back towards the crowd and I can see some faces that are showing open hostility. The growl that springs from my chest comes without warning. Everyone closes off their expressions, leaning their neck, showing submission.

I smile down at her as I step forward towards the table. “What would you like to eat, little Luna?” I whisper.

“Uh, I’m not sure. I’m not really feeling very hungry all of a sudden.” She says softly.
