"Seems like someone is envious of my ability to deter the opposition with just my mouth." She retorted to him with annoyance in her voice.
"See, that's what I was talking about." He seemed amused as if waiting for her to say something along these lines. Just then there was a knock on the door.
"Come in," Xiran ordered. It was Carios and he had a serious expression on his face.
"Sire, can I talk to you for a second? It's urgent."
Xiran let go of Aselia and walked over to Carios who whispered something in his ear. Xiran nodded with a solemn expression.
He then turned to Aselia: "Go back to your room, I have some urgent business to attend to. Will catch you later." He then motioned to Carios to lead Aselia back to her room. She picked up her shoes and walked behind Carios.
Xiran left for his room to change into more formal suiting and then went down to the parking lot. Where his latest model white automobile with black mirrors was standing. Carios was already there and opened the rear door for him. He got in and Carios closed the door behind him before slipping into the driver's seat and driving away.
"How did this happen in my city?" Xiran thundered. "Sire, we are still trying to find out." Carios was cautious with his words.
"Didn't you get a scent? There has to be a lingering scent, why wasn't the culprit tracked down?" Xiran couldn't comprehend that someone will come to Fritez city and kill vampires right under his nose.
"Sire, that's the thing. There was no scent, it seemed like someone was masking it."
"Hmm, interesting." Xiran was curious, it was unusual for humans to not leave a scent behind. Unless the attacker wasn't human.
They reached their destination and Xiran covered his head with a beanie and his face with a black mask only leaving his eyes out before coming out.
It was a cheap bar near the beach with its sign hanging on the last hinges. The door was in shambles, Carios kicked it open, and it creaked loudly as if complaining of the merciless treatment. Both of them entered to meet a gruesome sight. Fritez City's chief of police with some other policemen was already there. He greeted Xiran and they both shook hands.
The walls were plastered with blood and vampire organs. Arms, legs, hair and a few heads were strewn all over the place like in the aftermath of a bloody war. Blood was everywhere, on chairs, tables and counters.
"How many?" Xiran asked between gritted teeth. "Five," Warise, the chief of police replied. "All vampires?" Xiran inquired giving him a cold look.
"Yes, all were vampires. No human or any other species." Warise said hoarsely.
"What about security camera footage?"
"Cameras in this area are broken and since it's mostly inhabited by vampires and nothing of this magnitude has ever happened before. No one complained about getting them fixed." Warise explained.
"Get them fixed asap, I need all the cameras in my city working at their optimum quality."
"Yes, Sir."
"I can't comprehend what in the bloody hell massacred five vampires and did not leave a trace?" Xiran glared at him.
"That's what we are trying to figure out. Every known species leaves a trace. We suspect it could be hunters, they have advanced weapons and technology." Warise words hit Xiran like a bullet, his orbs took a darker shade as he stared at him menacingly.
"Hunters? In my city, they know better than that to not mess with me. Didn't they learn a lesson from what I did to them the last time they tried to infiltrate my city? No, this seems more like a work of an animalistic-driven being." Xiran spat out, not believing for a second that hunters will come to his city.
"We can't rule out anything. We have no witnesses so far, it's a cheap bar according to the standards of Fritez City so few people come here. And the owner was among the fatalities, so we don't have a lead so far." Warise filled him in on the current situation.
"Then find a lead and catch the culprit. Keep me posted on the investigation. I want this to be handled as a priority case. No one messes with my people and my city." Xiran thundered with bloodshot eyes.
"Yes, sir."
"And bring the culprit to me. I will handle him myself. Also tighten your security around the city, especially at all the entrances and exits. I want everyone entering and leaving the city to be fully checked according to our database. Especially humans." Xiran ordered him and he nodded.
Carios and Xiran then made their exit from the bloody bar. Once inside the car, Xiran took out his phone and opened "The Bestiary". This book contained information on all the known existing creatures in their world and began to read, looking for a specific creature who leaves no scent behind.
There were wendigos (cannibalistic shape shifters).
Were jaguars (shift into jaguars).
Femoris (fox-like creatures with blue tails and black fur).
Different kinds of hounds including golden hounds, which had golden jaws and ears with black bodies and bushy tails.
Warians (Bluish purple hounds with long tails)
Elves (Had mostly golden hair and pointed ears, they were very beautiful and their blood is valued by vampires. It is believed that their blood had certain other abilities as well, which remain untapped.)
But all these creatures avoided vampires and never hunted them, plus they all had strong scents. Wendigos only hunted humans and due to coveting operations carried out against them, they were almost extinct. Golden hounds were extremely rare too, they were known for their beauty both in their human forms and beast form. Their golden jaws were considered a rare commodity so they were hunted mercilessly too.
There were a few unknown creatures as well but most of them seemed to have either become extinct or gone in hiding for they feared both vampires and humans. Because these two were the apex predators of this world and took pleasure in hunting all other species.
Xiran's mind was racing and he needed answers. But seemed like it will be quite a while before he would get them.
--------------
In her room, Aselia decided to contact Yurian and inform him about her current progress. So, she took out the device from her boot and went to the bathroom with it. She tuned in and made the connection.
Static sound __________
"Black hawk! are you there?" No one answered her for a while but she kept trying to make the connection.
Finally, he picked up and she could hear him panting. "W--hite Fa---lcon, I am here...," silence....
"What happened?" Her body had suddenly become tense.
"I am sorry, I screwed up."
