SandWhich

Have you ever had a day where you thought it was a dream but then you find yourself woken up in the dream then come to find out it wasn't a dream at all? What if it was real! Let me tell you about mine. The day started out twisted and ended twisted. See, I just got back from a youth retreat and swam in Lake Superior but it was nothing like I had ever experienced. I guess it was my senior going away present or something. I don't know. Anyways I was digging to see how big I could make a sandcastle but what my shovel dug up wasn't soft earth. The ground shook and quaked. Rain fell from the sky and trees swayed too and fro. My head started to spin and get dizzy. I couldn't control it. I looked down and it rose. The Sandwich monster. I froze in fear, then it spoke.

"For years people have run up and down my home littering food wherever they please. To protect them from the elements I have taken them under my wing; trained them and taught them how to fight back. I taught them that one day they would have to fight back and my anger could no longer be dimmed. Today is that day!!! BURITTO, TACO, ENCHILADA!!"

The sand shifted and tiny food monsters crawled their eewy bodies out of the ground.

The Sandwich struck. He hit left, I dodged right. He hit right, I dodged left. He swung right, I dodged left then *pow. It was a hit. I slid along the sand all the way to the embankment and struggled to get up. Before I could think he opened his mouth and spewed moldy cheese and bologna straight at my eyes so I couldn' see. They were gaining on me. I didn't know what to do. My hand touched the smooth sand and I raced my mind trying to find something to counter the monsters' attack. Water washed over my hand and I looked back. The waves were coming in. I knew what to do. I picked myself up and ran out to sea with food flying through the air all about me. Once I hit a drop off I dove. If this was a dream then I was going to scare them with a nightmare.

Their eyes scanned the waters, waiting for a bite. All was still. Then a huge circle formed in the midst and a Recycler rose. My monster was massive. It was a bit lumpy and saggy I'll admit but it was there. For once I was happy people threw away trash instead of recycling. I was an exotic animal and I was proud of it. Sandwich had food on his side and I had dogs on my side. I howled and they lifted their heads. We charged. Before I could find out who won, the lighthouse across from us lit up bright and got closer and closer. That's when I woke up.
