The pod opened up and Izak slowly sat up and looked around. It was nice to just stretch. He slowly climbed out and found that this was more than what he bargained for with the new pod. He did not feel any fatigue, mental or physical strain after coming out of several days of inactivity. The pods were awesome and he had one of the best already. He would have to see about getting a few more for the core members of his workshop. Once he got his hands on some real money. Now that he was out he took some time for personal hygiene and then got back to his notebook. He had a few more things in the real world that needed to be taken care of.
Even though his body did not really need anything nutritionally he still went to his fridge and pulled out a few things that he bought right before he went in and made himself a huge omelet and toast. He would probably not eat anything very big for the rest of the day since it could throw off the serum that the machine is giving him. Since it designed to give him just what he needs to maintain perfect balance in his body. He checked the clock and saw that is was almost time for a huge part of his money making plan.
Izak pulled out his camera and dressed in his dark clothes and leather. There was a son of a very rich person in the city that was about to be kidnapped after being drugged in a bar. Last time it was resolved without any violence or bloodshed after a few days but he hoped that if he finished it the same night he might be able to get some kind of a reward. That is how the boy was found the first time. A huge reward was offered and a cousin of one of the kidnappers turned them in for the money.
Izak was not sure about the reward but the people involved might be able to assist him at a later time if he really needed some help. He would gladly trade his time this morning for the favor of the family. Plus he remembered from last time that there was a huge sum of cash on hand since they were dealing drugs. The kidnapping was to get the person to put pressure on the politicians. He just needed to be sneaky in his endeavors.
Izak drove his piece of crap car to a point where he knew that he would be close enough to get the information but far enough that his car would not been seen. He moved quietly towards the warehouse where both the boy and the drugs were being kept. He remembered the schematic of the place from the news and set his sights on the hidden room at the very end of the building. The room was so well hidden that they didn't use any extra guards only the ones that were on the kidnapping victims. If there had not been a small amount of drugs in the room and a dog found it then no one would have ever known about it.
This was his primary target. He knew that the victim would be safe for a few days at least so a few hours was not that big of a deal. He found a weak spot in the warehouse wall and pulled the metal panel away. Hard to believe that an old run down building like this had as much money stored here as it did. But then again who would come here looking for money. Izak moved as close to the area as he could remember and started looking around. After almost an hour of looking and two close calls where he had to run out of the building through the hole, he finally found the small hatch.
Izak ran back outside and waited for the guard to walk though again and as soon as they were gone he immediately opened up the hatch and crawled down the eight foot ladder. Without any hesitation he started pulling brick of one hundred dollar bills off the back of the shelves. He did not want anyone to know someone had been in here and taken part of the cash. The bundles were not new so they took up more room than his standard calculation. A stack of new bills would be less than seventy cubic inches and these older bills were closer to a hundred. But that was not a big deal. He still managed to cram twenty five bundles in his bag. He threw it over his should and realized that he had made a mistake in his calculations. He did not factor in the weight of the cash.
The backpack was way heavier than he ever imagined and now he regretted parking so far away from the building. There was no way that this bag weighed less that fifty pounds. But he did not care how long it would take him he slowly made his way over to his car and dumped the first bag. He was debating on a second bag since he did not even make a dent in the piles of money this trip. To hell with it he decided to be greedy this one time and go back after a second bag. Since he had the timing of the guard down the second trip was faster than the second one and this time he brought not only his back pack but also his camera bag. He knew that it was going to be heavier but he was not wasting an opportunity like this.
After the second trip he was not willing to take any more chances and called the police and talk them about the situation.
'911 what is your emergency?'
"My name is Izak Smith I am a private detective. Earlier tonight a group of armed men drugged and kidnapped Tim Callahan and I followed them and know their location. There are currently half a dozen men guarding him and they are all armed but only with small arms. I did not see anything more than a pistol."
'Sir it is important that you do not put yourself in danger are you at the location now?'
"I am just up the street. I can see the building from where I am."
'Stay right where you are I am sending an officer to meet up with you. I have already pinged your location.'
"I will wait here for your officer."
'Sir please stay on the line in case something happens.'
"Of course." In less than five minutes a man dressed in full tactical gear was standing beside him.
"Are you Izak Smith?"
"Yes sir."
"Captain Rico I am the head of the SRT for this area."
"Captain, if you look through the windows on the east side of the building you will see the young man in a chair. There are six men in the area that are all armed with pistols. I did not see anything heavier than that. Also here you go." Izak handed him color photos of all the men. The Captain gave him a funny look. "I am a private eye and sometimes I have to print things out short notice for clients and their attorneys. I made this investment about a year ago."
"This is some high quality work. You could be a professional photographer with this stuff."
"Thank you sir."
"Okay young man you go ahead and fall back to a safer location and me and my guys will take it from here. Also nice work. These guys have been bold lately but this is the first time we have them on the ropes. I am sure that the city will be sending you something."
"No worries Captain. Just doing the right thing. I am heading home. Good luck and stay safe Captain." Izak gave the man a respected nod of his head and then got into his car with almost seven million in stolen drug money and drove away. He had a lot of plans for the money but he was not sure how to make the money legal again. He would have to do a little research and see if he could figure something out. Cash always spent but seven million was a lot of cash to blow. He was about to grab his camera bag when he noticed an older, nicely dressed gentleman standing outside of his door.
Izak was amazed at the speed at which the Callahan family reacted. He walked up without any fear. "Good morning sir. How can I help you this morning?"
"Such a polite young man. I am Arnold Wright, I work for the Callahan family. The head of the family and a few other members of the family would like to meet with you."
"Sir, would it be rude to request a few minutes. I am not properly dressed to meet a family of the Callahan's status. I do not have fancy clothes but something nicer than this."
"Of course young man. I must say you have impeccable manners."
"I am not going to take a full shower so as not to keep them waiting but you are more than welcome to come in and have some coffee while you wait." Izak knew the man would not turn down an opportunity to enter the house to try and get a feel for him. It was easier this way so as to not risk them breaking in while he was gone.
"A cup of coffee would be most appreciated." The man was amazed by the manners of the young man but his shrewd understanding of how this part of society really worked was what really amazed him.
Izak opened the door and pointed to the machine that was designed for quick coffee but also high quality coffee. Other than his gaming pod and his camera equipment this was the most expensive thing he had in his house. "Feel free to select from anything that I have. I am afraid that the selection is not that extensive since I have been playing Earth: Reboot lately." He pointed towards his office and the pod that you could see. "I will but just a few minutes."
Izak headed to his room and got changed while Arnold made a carafe of coffee for the two of them. He also pulled out two nice travel mugs. He made his as always and left Izak's untouched as he did not know how he took his coffee. He wandered around the apartment and then into the office where he saw the pod and the notes from the case of the FBI criminal that he caught right before he went into the pod.
"A very interesting young man."
