Angels and Fallens

Hello everyone, welcome to another DxD lore dump disguised as a rant. This time our topic is the angels and the Fallen, what's their power system, ranking and other kind of things.

So to begin with, I'll be first explaining their general powers and weaknesses then the power ranking. Let's dive in:

1-Inherent Power:

>Lights are poisonous—

>Is what Buchou told me.

>It seems like the Fallen Angels and the Angels who use light as their weapon are the natural enemies of Devils. I was told to run away if I ever encounter them, but once you get used to it, it seems like you'll be okay under the sun.--Volume 1, Life 2, Part 1.

As we all know, all Angels are born or created with innate Light Power. This means, no matter what their status is, they can use it without a problem.

Generally speaking, Angels and Fallens use Light Energy by shaping it into all kind of weaponry like spears, swords, arrows and bows, etc...

Now the main difference between Pure Angels and Fallen Angels, is that the Pure Angels have access to Holy Energy by God's grace, symbolised by their halos. This basically means that if an angel and a Fallen have the same number of wings, the Fallen has only Light Energy while the Angel has both Light and Holy energy.

Another point to add to why this is significant, is the fact that Fallen Angels are weak to Holy Element just like Devils but to a lesser extent, but unlike Devils, they aren't weak To Light.

Say Holy Element deals 3× damage to Devils, for Fallen it would be ×1,5 damage. But it is still effective nonetheless.

This also means, without outside interference or power ups like mythical swords, Sacred Gears and stuff, an Angel can generally trash any Fallen of the same number of wings, unless of course there is a gap of experience.

For anyone who thinks that I am lying, or that Fallen Angels have no weakness, please read the Holy and Light rant, also here:

>When I looked at my stomach, there was smoke emitting from it! Is this the damage caused by the holy-sword!? When on earth!? Did I get cut from the attack just now!? It just grazed me and I turn out like this...

>"It's the damage caused by the holy-sword. Devils and fallen-angels get their power and existence erased by receiving damage from the holy-sword to their body. If it were a bit deeper, then it would have been critical."

>It was just a graze! Does it take that much power from me that I get down on my knees!?--Volume 3, Life 2, Part 7.

Besides this, there is also the standard supernatural abilities: Superhuman physique, wings for flight, etc...

An interesting fact I would like to mention is this:

>"...From a rough glance at those magic circles, I can see Norse Magic, Demonic Magic, Fallen Angel-style Magic, Black Magic, White Magic, Fairy Magic... Quite a diverse array of spells..."

>Rossweisse-san narrowed her eyes and spoke softly. A somewhat amazing mage? But that guy was the mist user? Not only was he a Longinus possessor, he was also a powerful sorcerer!--Volume 9, Life 4, Part 3.

As we can see from the passage above, there is a thing called Fallen Angel-style Magic, which I believe rely on Light energy to work but that's just my belief.

Anyways, since this exists, we can say that Fallen Angels have their own Magic Style or System, whatever you call it. With that, it's fair to assume that Pure Angels also have one, since they are even older than Fallen Angels.

Now besides all this, we have some "Unique" powers that are Technically inherent since they can be passed down as bloodline abilities.

See, some of the Higher ranking Angels used to had special elements, Barakiel being the Thunder of God, having access to Holy Lightning which is a combination between normal Lightning and Holy element. There is also Uriel, the Flame of God, having access to Holy fire, normal fire mixed with Holy Element.

As we can see with Barakiel, these individuals don't lose their ability even if Fallen. Now before anyone starts saying: " But how can Barakiel use Holy when he is a Fallen", remember 2 things:

--Barakiel can't use Holy, only Holy Lightning. He can't a separate Holy energy alone.

--Xenovia, a devil, can use Holy Swords. DxD setting is just weird.

But with that, we come to an end for inherent powers if Angels. Let's move on to the next topic

2-Power levels:

Now I would like to say that we are 100% sure that Angel and Fallen power levels are ranked by their number of wings, but that's kind of a lie. See, while this theory is quite consistent, it has one giant problem: What rank of power does the number of wings signify?

Now this doesn't seem like like a problem, as we can just rank them, until you remember we have 2 people that break this setting constantly: Irina and Akeno.

See, as of now, Akeno is with 6 wings and Irina with 4. This is talking as of True DxD Volume 4 and DX 7, basically the most recent Volumes.

And any reader of the novel can tell you that both these characters are Low Maou class before True DxD even began.

So yeah, see the problem? How in the bloody hell is Irina a Maou Class with 4 wings? She is even officially recognised as an Ultimate-class Angel, suicidal class not power, like what the actual hell? Are we just throwing the old rankings out of the window? here is the statement about Irina by the way:

>"I suddenly became an Ultimate-class Angel though!? ...I wonder what I should do."

>That's right, the Reincarnated Angel cards on the table were Irina's.

>Because there weren't many capable Reincarnated Angels, Irina received a double promotion just like me.

>So, by suddenly receiving the cards, Irina was very confused.--Volume Shin DxD 4, New Life.

Anyways, the only way this make sense to me, is that we ignore Reincarnated Angels and Hybrids from the rankings entirely, they simply just don't abide by this rule.

If we do that, we can get a pretty solid list. Here we go:

For the Fallen we have:

--2 Wings: Low-Class

--4 Wings: Mid-Class

--6 to 8 Wings: Low High-Class to Peak High-Class

--10 wings: Low Ultimate-class

--12 Wings: Mid Ultimate-Class

Now before you all start ripping me apart, let me first justify this. So, from 2 to 10 needs no justification, that is just basic logic. Now for 10( Cadres) and 12(Azazel) let me show you the following:

>Y-You Monster! A-Are you telling me this is the 'Juggernaut-Drive'!? This is no joke! M-My power should have been raised to that of the former-Maou due to Ophis' power! He has surpassed the Boosted Gear's specs recorded in the data!"

>Shalba's expression finally turns into that of fear. His eyes are dyed with fear, and looks at Ise---Volume 6, Juggernaut Drive.

So, we can say, for arguments sake, that Shalba is somehow true, which he really isn't, and that he is on the old Maou class, which is Low Maou class as they are the literal benchmark for that class.

Now, you don't need to be a genius to know that's a lie, especially since he isn't using the bloodline ability. So, to make it fair, let's say he has Low Maou class reserves but his actual combat power is High Ultimate-class.

So, following this, we have that Shalba, Katarea and Creuserey all are High Ultimate-class.

See, remember the fight in the peace summit? Azazel was winning against base Katarea, then she pulled Ophis snake and was now overwhelming him. So he had to use His Balance Breaker to win.

You get the logic here? No matter how you put it, Base Azazel can not be above High Ultimate-class, much less Maou class. He needs his Sacred Gear for that.

So, with this argument in mind, it is only natural we say that Base Azazel is Mid Ultimate-Class, and by logic, all Cardres of 10 wings are low Ultimate-class.

As for how many of those there are, we have a number:

>Sensei's gaze moves to the painting, and replies back with an expression of looking back at old times.

>"Yeah, it's a picture of our comrades."

>"So, are these people that are on the painting working here as well?"

>"...No, those guys have already died from the old war and such."

>—! I didn't know how to reply back to Sensei after hearing that. So the ones in the paintings are Sensei's comrades who had already passed away... Sensei continues.

>"The leaders who are still alive among the members of Grigori since its creation are the seven of us consisting of, me, Vice-governor Shamhaza, Barakiel, the glasses from before, Tamiel who is standing over there, Penemue, and Armaros."--Volume 15, Life 4, Part 2.

As we can see, the Fallen leadership is very much standing on its last legs. They have only 7 Cadres now with Azazel as the leader. Before this by around 4 years, they had 2 other Cadres that defected: Kokabiel and Satannael. But both are dealt with already so that's that. Here are all the Fallen Cadres we know of :

--Azazel

--Shemhaza

--Barakiel

--Sahariel

--Tamiel

--Penemue

--Armaros

--Kokabiel

--Satannael

This ranking makes sense now, as it explains how Vali is able to defeat Kokabiel, because of Kokabiel was actually Maou level, that would make 0 sense to the whole power scaling in general.

Now ignoring the Fallen, we can move on to Angels. Now I see that people don't seem to realise this, but to clarify:

The angel leadership is consisted of 10 Angels called the Seraph, of these 10, there are 4 who are called the Great Seraph, they are stronger than your average Seraph. And among the 4 Great Seraph, an Archangel stands above them in power, symbolised by Golden wings, as this angel is the one that have Heaven System running as much as he could.

Now, we actually only know 6 confirmed Seraphs in the story. We get all of them and some extra details from Isshibumi's Blogs, here is the link for anyone interested, fair warning though, they are in Japanese, so you need to rely on Google Translate, I am used to it since I read Chinese novels with it regularly: http://ishibumi.exblog.jp

Anyways, here it is:

>Metatron *Twin angels with Sandalphon.

>・Seraph who admires NINJA. Seraph who became an apprentice to NINJA.

>*Published in the short story in the September 2013 issue of Dragon Magazine.

>Sandalphon *Metatron and his twin angel.

>・Raguil ・Raziel ・Sariel ・Remiel--Ishibumi Behind the scenes Blog 1

Sorry for the wacky Grammar but as you can see, we have all Serpahs, here they are:

--Micheal

--Gabriel

--Uriel

--Raphael

--Metraton

--Sandalphon

--Ragul

--Raziel

--Sariel

--Remiel

These are the 10 Seraph. Of these 10, 6 are confirmed to be 12 winged. The 4 Great Seraphs, Metraton and Sandalphon. Here:

>Irina who has her identity known by the ninja. He may be someone who stands in a special position since he already knows Kuroka and Irina, but I'm a bit surprised that he knows Irina's identity as well.

Though it seems like Irina doesn't know him... In front of us who are feeling dubious, white wings appears from the ninja's back!

>The ninja says this while spreading twelve of his wings.

>"It is I. Metatron –de gozaru."

>Hearing his name, not only Irina but the other members of the Occult Research Club apart from me makes a stiff expression.--Volume DX 2, Life 5, Part 2.

Once again, I want to kill myself and Ishibumi for this-De gozaru. But anyways, Metraton is a 12 winged Seraph, and since Sandalphon is his twin, he too is of course 12 winged. By this, it is safe to assume that the rest are also 12 winged.

So following all this, and the fact that a Pure Angel is stronger than a Fallen of the same rank, we have the following:

--2 White Wings: High Low-Class

--4 White wings: High Mid-class

--6 to 8 White Wings: Peak High-class

--10 White Wings: Low to Mid Ultimate-Class

--12 White Wings( Normal Seraph): High Ultimate-class

--12 White Wings( 4 Great Seraph): Low to Mid Maou-class

--12 Golden Wings( Archangel): Mid to High Maou Class.

And with that, we conclude our rankings. Thanks for sticking up until this part. If you have any questions or disagree with my point, feel free to ask. Until next rant, Adios.
