Is that what you think when I'm with Koa or Aneth, not you?” Nye locks eyes with me. “Dragons have a hierarchy. The leader of the males is the one with whom the female spends the most time. Koa and Aneth know this.” I cross my arms, “That makes no sense. I want to get to know all of you.” “Too bad,” Nye says, his eyes are unwavering. “If they can’t beat me in a fight, you won’t.” I chuckle, unbelieving the nature of these creatures. “So if you were to be “dethroned” by Aneth or Koa. I'd be spending more time with them?” “It's our nature. To be a leader you must be powerful, if not you don't deserve to be there. Someone else will take it.” Nye says this as if it's a binding oath. Well, that's great. It will take me forever to get to know Koa and Aneth more than on a surface level. “You irk me.” I cross my arms over my chest. Nye did get under my skin, but I liked it. Am I sick in the head? Maybe. “Darling, you take me for someone who needs your approval for what I do. You should know by now that I do not.” Nye smirks at me. I roll my eyes. “Then buckle up 'cause you're going to have a butt load of shit to deal with on this ride, honey.” I walk past him, purposefully exaggerating the sway of my hips. Bite it, big guy.

Chapter 9

~Dragons~ (Nye)

Seeing his mate become unhinged made him quiver with excitement. Kamari may be petite, but she threw a hard punch, making Browen stumble back and fall to the floor.

His blood pumped, arousing his primal nature. Forcing himself not to get involved had him biting his lip so hard he could taste his blood.

But when the two other councilmen get up and go towards Kamari, Nye jumps out of his seat and onto the table. They stall when they see him, "Oh, please give me a reason to join in." Nye hovers over the two men; then, he hops down in front of Kamari.

Browen sits up and shouts, "Enough!" His fellow Councilmen help him up. With his breath heavy, he says, "Kamari has proved herself unfit to rule the throne." Nye can feel the venom in his mate's veins, and she tries to lunge at the councilmen again. Nye flings his arm out, halting her mid-jump into his arm at full speed.

"I'll ring your neck!" Kamari digs her nail into his flesh. Nye holds back a groan of satisfaction from the pain.

Browen gets up and dusts himself off, "You have three months, Kamari. And after that, you will be dethroned and banished from Nivillia under my rule. You and your reptilian concubines!" He shouts, in a huff, the man turns on his heels and walks out of the throne room. Nye's gaze roams to his Kamari. Whose chest pumped in and out like a little mouse.

"I hope someone stabs you in your sleep…" She says under her breath as she glares. Browen, but Nye heard her: such a dark little thing, his mate. Kamari catches Nye's gaze, then looks to his arm where he bled from her nails. Suddenly her demeanor changes, it softens, "Oh good Goddess." She takes his arm, "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to do that."

Kamari groans and turns away. "Why the hell did I do that." She holds herself. "He got under my skin…"

She looks over her shoulder at Nye, who tilts his head at her. "Why didn't you tell me you could speak better than Aneth and Koa?"

Nye puts his hands in his pockets, "Suprised?"

"Not really." She turns towards him. "I'm learning you're very rash and that you don't listen to what I tell you to do." Kamari turns to meet his gaze, "I don't know if it's blessing or dangerous."

Nye crosses his arms over his chest, "Did you not show rashness yourself just now, my darling?" Nye says with a sly smile, watching Kamari's face flush red.

"Touche, " she sighs, then glances to the ground. I can't believe my father did this." Kamari shakes her head. What a parent."

Nye could see the soul he saw back in the stadium. The one with vivid violet eyes and her aura's wildness lured him with its come-hither pull. It sealed his fate, then and there. Now he understood why Veldon chose the women he had back then. The call of the soul bond couldn't be ignored.

"Humans." Nye looks out the window as he speaks to her. "I never cared for them. The language interested me. I wanted to know what they were saying for my interest. But it let me in on their world and how they saw it." He could feel Kamari's gaze, a warmth in his chest. "A hundred years, I've been here. The human world has crumbled and picked itself up many times. Never thought I'd be intertwined with it."

Nye sighs, "I'm not a fan of humans. I'd rather see them burned by my flames. I know that humans have tried to arm themselves against us, and some have made it happen. Some of my brethren have died because of it. So, you can see where my hatred comes from." Nye glances at his mate; her eyes clung to him. Nye exhales softly with a half-smile. "And yet, I'd feel as if I could ravage the world apart for you, Kamari." That feeling he did not doubt.

Kamari's eyes glisten, and a tear falls down her cheek. "I'm honored you'd do that for me. But Nye, "she looks into his soul, "I'm not a good person."

Nye feels a twinge in his heart, his brows furrow, and a hint of confusion on his face. He knew Kamari held back something, but he couldn't put a finger on it. "I never asked you to be." Perfection didn't exist. Nye knew that all too well.

Kamari's lip trembles, and she backs away; her sudden action confuses him further, pulling at his curiosity. "Thank you for coming to my side. I should go check on the others." She bows a sign of respect. And as she walks away, he can't help but feel his chest ache.

Darling, what are you hiding from me?
