Secrets. We all keep them. Some tend to protect us from harm. Others tend to lead us to it. While Kayda’s secret is one that haunts her. Kayda isn’t human. She never was. All her life, she knew that. Kayda has already had her lifetimes worth of pain and misery along with those secrets she keeps. She spent so long fighting, so long trying to survive, that one day, she finally snapped. Her sanity was shredded by the creatures called humans. She was torn down piece by piece to be used as entertainment slowly corroding away what once was her mind. Only to be built back up again to repeat the gruesome process. So she finally gave up. Now, she is nothing but a beast. At least, that’s what she portrays to be. And she would have continued to play her part as the feral pet, but what happens when Dimitri appears? A cold and calculative man, who appeared in what she thought would be her last moments. A man who seemed to have even more secrets then even her, but was still able to show a side of himself that even she had lost. He was ruthless, cold blooded, calculative, and even, warm? So what happens when he’s out on a mission and meets a creature he quickly wants to dismiss? A creature that he had no interest in until he met her eyes. How exactly is Dimitri going to carefully piece Kayda back together again? And how is Kayda going to react to the unfamiliar kindness shown by a stranger? What’s his motive? ———————- “So, your saying, that because you saved me from death, I’m now in your debt?” Kayda was intrigued but at the same time annoyed, seeing the charming tilt in Dimitri’s lips. And as she stared, Dimitri reveled in her gaze. “You could say that.” His mischievous voice didn’t go unnoticed and Kayda felt a slight twitch at the corner of her lip. With a glow in her eyes, she walked up to Dimitri who was staring her down. “I’ll repay a favor. But I’ll never be in your debt.” Slamming a hand down, she growled. “The Goddess wanted me dead for a reason. You’re lucky I don’t show you why.” Dimitri grinned with amusement when suddenly, his hand snaked its way around her waist. “Even the Goddess can’t take you away from me.” He whispered. ————————————- ‘The cover was not made, and is not owned by me. :Remains of the Black Sea Arena

Micheal turned to look at Kayda who still stood in her spot.

Their eyes met and he gave a sheepish smile.

"I'm sorry you had to go through that." He apologized while scratching the back of his head.

Kayda only shrugged. "There's no need for you to apologize for someone else's immaturity."

Micheal laughed. "I didn't know you could be so harsh."

They both started walking again. Kayda looked at Micheal. "I'm not harsh. I just have the balls to say what everyone was thinking."

Micheal blinked a couple of times before fully processing what Kayda had said.

He paused his steps and burst out in laughter. Tears gathering in the corner of his eyes.

Kayda stopped and looked at him with a delicate brow raised containing both amusement and confusion.

Standing straight, Micheal wiped the corner of his eye. "I see that mouth of yours hasn't changed in even the slightest." He laughed.

When they were younger, some of the adults had called her the silver tongued dragon.

She could have the sweetest tongue in the world at one moment, but then she could absolutely and innocently tear you to shreds the next.

Kayda smiled. Shaking her head she continued to follow Micheal.

He started reminiscing the times she had told off some old handlers at the Black Sea Arena and avoided the beating. He cleverly avoided the bad moments that happened after words and was able to make her smile when thinking about those times.

Finally, they arrived at the knights quarters.

It was a large three story building with a large courtyard. The sounds of swords clashing echoed in the air from a distance. It was a very zestful place.

Kayda could feel the liveliness in the air as knights walked by and others ran around training. It was nothing like the desolate room she stayed in everyday without a single soul in sight.

Kayda turned her head left and right, absorbing everything.

Micheal looked at her out of the corner of his eyes. A hidden smile tucked away between his lips.

He led her into the building. Knights they passed by couldn't help but give a second glance at their vice captain who came in with a young and skinny girl. Her big eyes looking around brightly without any of the reservation you would see from those delicate noble ladies from prominent houses that thought knights were always uncultured and filthy.

Micheal led her to the second floor and knocked on a door. It was silent for a second before the sound of clattering and nosy mayhem followed by the creaking of the door.

An anonymous air filled the hallway as the glint of glasses peered out from the crack of the door.

"Micheal. Do ya know what time it is?" A low and rumbling voice echoed out as it sent a death glare towards Micheal.

Micheal only smiled amiably. "Good afternoon to you too Engar."

The man behind the door groaned. "Come in." He sighed while pulling the door open.

The room was dimly lit. With all the windows covered, she caught a strong whiff of whisky and bourbon. Her nose scrunched up in displeasure.

The man from earlier pulled away the curtains covering the window while groaning in displeasure. The room was immediately lit. Surprisingly, it was extremely tidy with nothing out of place. The only thing that didn't fit was the accumulation of glass bottles surrounding the couch with an untidy blanket.

Standing in front of the window was a very robust man no taller than six foot. He had short and scruffy hair with an unshaven face.

With a pair of spectacles resting on a fairly straight nose and rectangular face, the silver spectacles seemed oddly out of place on his rugged face.

"What do ya need Micheal?" He sighed as he leaned back upon the window seal while looking lazily at Kayda and Micheal.

Laughing a little, Micheal held his hand out.

Engar scrunched up his brows and looked at Micheal with undisguised contempt. "Ya woke me up," pausing for effect. "Fer this?"

Micheal walked forward and nudged him in the chest. "And that." With a thumb, he pointed over his shoulder at Kayda.

Engar turned his eyes towards her and looked her up and down. He only saw the small scratch on her face before she held out her hands to showcase the deep cuts slicing her palms.

He sighed. "Aight. Let's get this over with." Waving a hand over his head, he went to a cupboard and rummaged around for a bit before pulling out two small bottles of what seemed to be bright green liquid.

Sitting down on the couch in the room, he tossed one bottle of the green liquid to Micheal and one to Kayda.

"Just splash some of that there liquid on there an then let me see the cuts if they need any stitches." He yawned.

Kayda opened the bottle and looked at it hesitantly. Micheal just opened the bottle and applied some of the liquid to his hand before closing the bottle to save the rest for later as his scratches were pretty minor.

Kayda looked at the bottle before applying it to her scratches and cuts. The wounds instantly stopped bleeding.

Only the cut on her cheek closed slightly but the cuts on her hands still seemed to only slightly heal but didn't close up.

"Yup. Ya need stitches. Let me get the needle an thread." Engar got up from the couch and got a curved needle and sterilized thread from a draw.

Sitting back down on the couch, he looked at Kayda. "What ya waiting for? An invitation?" He sneered impatiently.

"I can do it myself." Kayda didn't move. Engar only narrowed his eyes.

"Fine." He tossed her the needle and thread. "Do it ya self." He leaned back and closed his eyes. His head facing up not caring at all what terrible job Kayda might do with two injured hands.

Kayda caught the needle and thread without a single wince and proceeded to sew up her hands. The stitching was straight. She didn't even flinch while piercing the delicate skin.

Micheal was just about to stop her and reprimanded Engar for his carelessness over his patients. But when Kayda started to fix her palms without a single complaint, he didn't dare to speak.

Kayda continued and finished both hands just fine. Taking the needle and thread, she placed them on the table in front of Engar.

"Thank you for the supplies." Engar cracked and eye lid to look at her.

She sewed up her hand without even a single whimper. He would have to numb one of the knights if he wanted to sew up any part of their bodies.

But this young girl just up and sewed her hand together. If that didn't impress him slightly, then his name wasn't Engar.

Sitting up, he placed his arms on the back of the couch and looked at Micheal. "Who's ya little friend Micheal."

Micheal looked at Engar then to Kayda who looked ready to leave and not at all bothered by the actions she just carried out.

"She's," he hesitated for a second. Kayda looked at him and tilted her head.

Yes Micheal. Who am I to you. She asked herself.

Micheal only sighed. "She's a friend of mine and my sister when I was younger."

Engar immediately sat up as his spectacles fell from his face.

He looked wide eyed at Micheal than at the small and scrawny little thing standing next to him.

"You mean to tell me," he swallowed. "That she's from the Black Sea Arena as well?"

Kayda's eyes narrowed as she looked at Micheal through the corner of her eye. How much did Engar know.

Micheal didn't notice her stare and awkwardly smiled. Unlike the rest of the knights he worked with, Engar actually knew of his background. Not even the captain knew that he was from the Black Sea Arena.

Only, Engar only knew what he had told him, and that wasn't a lot.

"Ya." Micheal smiled sheepishly.

Engar immediately regained his composure and looked at Kayda in a whole new light.

Honestly, when he first saw her with Micheal, he thought that she was just some little noble girl who had tried to arrogantly wield a sword and had gotten hurt. So the vice captain had to escort her to him.

But when he saw the way she sewed up her hand, he knew that wasn't it. Those soft prissies couldn't even handle a small callus on the palm of their hand.

It would never have crossed his mind that she had been in the Black Sea Arena.

It was widely known that the Black Sea Arena was a vicious place where criminals, slaves and their children were sent as a form of execution. Only, it served as more of an entertainment to higher society and a betting pool to make money.

But it was also widely known that the Black Sea Arena had been annihilated by a monster years ago and only the skeletal remains of what it once was is left.

Many people escaped. While many more died.

It was a mystery. A mystery that both Kayda and Micheal lived through.
