Volume 20 Saving Yuri

Victor broke down in tears, it was now official that his lover was gone. Lord Usagi held a conference, King Nara was standing beside him with swollen eyes. Lord Usagi said, "Thank you all for coming, we are in deep sorrow as a household to have lost Prince Yuri. As a nation we shall mourn him with dignity and respect…" Usagi left without even finishing the speech, it was deeply eating him away. Nara followed him inside his office, Usagi couldn't hold back his tears, "We failed to protect him, after all that he did for us…I failed to be there for him." Nara looking at his husband was heartbroken, "He endured all the pain and stress alone, he never gets to see his children…" Shion stormed in Lord Usagi's office, he said, "What have you done?!" Usagi tried to comfort him, he slapped his hand away when he tried to comfort him. Shion suddenly fell on the ground, he was taken to the hospital. Nara offered to look after him till he wakes up. Victor was escorted out of the hospital, when he arrived home and saw an empty room, he felt lonely. Victor held Yuri's favourite coat, as he exhaled his scent deeply, he could see him before his eyes smiling calling his name. Victor as he embraced that coat said, "Yuri…I love you…will you ever forgive me? Yuri…I love you." Victor fell asleep whilst snuggling Yuri's clothes, the maids were dressed in black. Shion opened his eyes and saw King Nara sitting beside him reading book. Shion looking at the ceiling said, "What are you doing here?" Nara placing the book down replied, "It was always at the back of my mind, why you never felt angry when Victor married Yuri? Now I have figured it all out, you were in love with him. Why would you let Victor have the one you love without throwing a fit?" Shion sat properly, he replied, "What I wanted was to see Yuri happy, it might have hurt but Victor made him happier than l would have. I just hoped even for a day he would love me back…" tears poured out of his eyes. Nara felt his pain, it was tremendous, "I am deeply sorry about Yuri's death, thank you for supporting Yuri in times of need. I feel ashamed because we selfishly poured out our problems to him, we didn't see he was hurting but you did." Nara walked out of the room, Shion wiped away his tears.

Shion took an elevator to the private lab, he walked into the lab and saw three people in white coat. Doctor Mike, Doctor Lucy and Shion's close friend Doctor Jihun were all examining a person lying on a bed, Shion kissing the person on the forehead said, "You are going to be alright, Yuri."

Three months before Yuri gave birth

After Mike ensured Yuri about the operation Shion held a private meeting with Doctor Lucy and Doctor Mike. Shion phone close friend Jihun to join in the meeting, it was privately held at Shion's residence. Mike looking at the food said, "I feel like you are bribing us with the food." Lucy laughed out loud, lifting her glass of wine, "It has been long Jihun, let us get down to business." Mike with one gulp drank all he beer, "Shion, our helpless friend in love. Let us commence the operation to save our bro's lover!" Jihun was a surgeon, he mainly focused on the internal organs, Lucy research was thorough. Jihun placed the file on the table, " I am impressed Lucy, however this pregnancy has ruptured half of his intestines, luckily they can be repaired. His situation is bad, but I like a challenge, I will be available to seal the ruptured intestines and fix any other complication. I need a private lab for my research, well to prepare if any other further damage will be done after he gives birth." Shion looking at Jihun asked, "I just want him to be saved, I don't care how long and how much you will spend." Jihun had never seen Shion concerned about someone before, "He must be a special person…but isn't he married? His husband should be doing all these preparation." Shion placed his glass down, he replied, "Our plan will be back up if Victor's plan fails, I just want Yuri to be safe. I love him, that's why I want him to live." Jihun looking at a drunk Mike said, "I never thought I would witness a day you would fall in love; you were always emotionless following your fathers demands. I will try my utmost best to save my friend's only lover." Shion sipped his wine, "If you fail to save him, they will be two funerals."

The night Yuri gave birth

Shion anxiously waiting for the results kept pacing up and down, everything had taken a huge blow on their plans. Yuri had given birth early, during the operation Lucy noticed the intestines were badly damaged, His lungs were slightly damaged. Luckily his spinal cord is slightly damaged but still intact. The worst part was Yuri's brain was swollen; he had slipped into comma. Mike was afraid Yuri couldn't be saved; it was a matter of time before he could actually die. Relating the news to Shion was harder, all his hopes and preparations would have been for nothing. Jihun looking at the scans said, "This is beyond what I expected, I can see the other doctors have sealed his intestines. To others it might be hopeless but as your friend my days of sleeping in the lab have started." Mike assisted the other doctors in an effort to save Yuri's life, Jihun, Lucy and Mike secretly examined Yuri to conduct his research. Victor had hired the best specialist; they did their job to save Yuri from death, but they all failed to wake him up.

The previous night

Shion was reading through a document, placing the file down he sighed, "I have zero intention of letting Yuri die, how can he even authorise you to switch off the machine." Mike knew Shion would go against the idea, Jihun said, "Can l speak candidly my friend?" Mike opened the page with the vital information, "Yuri's brain is swollen because it has been infected by meningitis and also hormones. The chances of him waking up are 1%, the royal family are doing what is best for Yuri and them." Shion looking at his three colleagues replied, "I have faith in that 1%, I need a year…if he doesn't wake up in that time then l will let him rest in peace along his side." Lucy could relate to Shion, Yuri was his first love after enduring so much pain and suffering. Lucy held Mike's hand, "We need a decoy to die in Yuri's place, any slight disturbance to Yuri's machine will lead him to his death." Mike grinned and said, "You aren't going to like this, but he is our on-way ticket out, I can contact my guy Jemmy to replicate Yuri's face. I pray this works, or we are all dead." The whole night they were working on shifting Yuri to the private lab and replacing him with a fraud. The fraud was Lucy's patient who had a stroke, his physique was similar to Yuri. Mike stalled the royals counselling them and guiding them through the documentation. Victor was looking frail and pale, Lord Usagi signed the documents.

Shion kissed Yuri hand, Jihun said, "I can finally breathe…I was literally using the oxygen tank." Lucy held Jihun's shoulder, she said, "This is what l call risking it all, now let us focus on saving our dear Yuri before we hold two funerals." The three of them laughed, Shion with a confused face asked, "What is funny?" Shion's personal bodyguard entered, he bowed down, "My Prince, the preparations are complete." Everyone in the room stared at Jihun when Talin entered, Shion replied, "You know what to do, I will be waiting with Yuri here." They waited till night to take Yuri out of the hospital.
